I was getting ready to invest $5K into Apple. I may have to change my mind now. Just imagine how many consumers or businesses will buy this because its from Microsoft and they will figure that Microsoft knows their OS better than anyone else, so they should be able to protect it better.
Leave it to Microsoft to make money off their own incompetency!
Microsoft will dominate the security (AV, spyware) part of the software industry. In five years, there will not be a McAfee or others. So whats left on that side of the computer world?
I MUST be a prophet. Ten years ago I said that you will either run Microsoft software entirely or you won't run it at all. Adobe will be all thats left on the Windows side for off the shelf software.
I second that although if the single ones are getting less than me, they're celibate. There is no free time for mommy and daddy with twin 2 year olds in your house.
How are CD's bad for the environment? Oh sure, maybe if you throw them away or something. But why would I spend $15 on a CD and then throw it away? No, my CD's are not causing harm to the environment. They are sitting in a box in my closet.
There's one more reason why we won't see OS X on an x86 platform. Applications. If there are two separate versions of OS X, that would require Adobe to make two separate versions of Photoshop just for OS X. Eventually they would decide enough is enough and choose a platform. My guess is they would choose the x86 platform and not the PPC.
There will always be only one version of OS X. It may run on x86 one day but thats only if Apple's hardware is running x86.
I sort of agree with you here. Microsoft has 3 main competitors right now: Google, Apple, and Linux. And after this summer, maybe a 4th in OpenOffice. Microsoft has always been "good enough" for the masses. Now, OpenOffice might be "good enough" for the masses. Linux is almost "good enough" for the masses. Google is just too simple for Microsoft to understand and Apple is now once again a decade ahead of Microsoft on the desktop but this time, Steve Jobs hasn't left the company.
There are definite cracks. Maybe Microsoft has become too big for its own good.
Because the open document format has been finalized, it wouldn't be hard for the federal government to end the Microsoft monopoly once and for all. That is if the federal gov't has any interest in ending the monopoly. All they would have to do is announce that all future documentation be submitted with this format. That would force Microsoft to include that format in Office and could eventually lead to the end of MS Office requirements.
I just got my iBook G3 700mhz in October 2002. I've already bought Panther to put on it. I can't believe Apple wants me to pay for another upgrade. This is outrageous. I'm switching to Windows. At least then I don't have to buy another upgrade for 7 or 8 years.
You might see a PowerBook G6 before a G5. The G5 is based on IBM's Power4 processor. The Power5 processor is much more efficient and puts out less heat. Thats probably what the G6 will be based on.
There really needs to be a native version of Open Office for OS X. Even one that charges $49 per copy or something. Anyone for starting up a company? If some VC wants to give me a million bucks, I'll hire some developers and get an Aqua based OpenOffice out there.
Yes, you need the G5 to initiate the chat, but anyone can be on the other end. And I believe its only if you are doing video chat. I could be wrong though.
You are correct. Hindsight IS 20/20. But our elected officials are supposed to be able to read stuff and make decisions based on the stuff. Our leaders and those that work for them chose to ignore all that and just concentrate on spending as much time on the ranch as possible.
How are we ever going to spy on these countries if they stop using Windows?
Will that be after every reindexing?

Didn't I read this on Slashdot several months ago? I'd check but I'm either a) Too busy or b) Too lazy.
Seriously though, I'm just glad its Friday.
Wrong. You can buy a PowerMac G5 for $1400. Same price as the iMac.

Hey, I balled my eyes out at the end of the movie too because I thought the movie sucked so bad and I wasted $8 on it.

Because Bonjour is Apple and UPnP is Microsoft. Therefore, one works right and one doesn't.
I had wondered what happened to Doogie Howser. I guess he got bored with medicine and decided to tackle Riemann's Hypothesis.

We are allowed to dream aren't we?
Spyware application vendors and anti-virus application vendors come to mind.

Whats the big deal about an iPod? Isn't it just another mp3 player?
It's by Apple. Enough said.

Man, I haven't thrown out a box since the invention of Ebay!

Once again, Microsoft copies Apple.
Don't know if this is real or not, but its funny as hell!

The city gov't I work for actually promotes OpenOffice.org to our users. With Version 2 coming in July, it should become a nobrainer.
