After reading many of the comments so far, it makes me wonder what the response from the/. community (or as more accurately seems, factions) if Moore had done a comparable film with another subject. Say, an anti-Pres. Clinton piece? Or an anti-Linux/Linus piece? Or an anti-European Union piece.
It would be interesting to compatre peoples' reactions with F9/11 to these other hypothetical movies, and see if they would really keep their views (Moore is a lying hack, Moore is just telling the truth) if he suddenly attacked a position they espoused (say Clinton for those who like Fahrenheit, or the EU for those who like the EU) or disliked (say Clinton for those who didn't like Fahrenheit, or the EU for those in the US).
Would be an interesting study to have everyone watch 3 or 4 F9/11-like movies on different topics, then read the responses and see if we could categorize people into groups: Likes Moore no matter what Dislikes Moore no matter what Anti-Bush no matter what Pro-Bush no matter what Anti-Clinton no matter what etc. until "Views actually swing depending on material" and "Actually influenced by the film(s)".
I think it would be an intersting exam of ideaology vs. critical thinking, especially for those who views have suddenly been attacked.
If I slapped a nice LCD screen on top of a cassette player and stuck in my sneaker, could I get/. to call it the next iPod obliterator/dominator/masticator? How about taping a transistor radio to a toothbrush (get all your favorite music AND good dental hygiene!).
Seriously, every single portable media player is touted as an iPod killer. Can't something be a competitor, or alternative, or just hanging out having a smoke?
Not that I really care, I don't own an iPod, but these "killer" headlines are starting to sound like the "BSD is dead" troll.
"... he was already an excellent typist from Slashdot, thanks to you guys for ribbing the hell out of kids who try to get away with crappy grammer and spelling."
Go for it- I finally switched to Firefox about a month ago, and absolutely love it. Tabbed browsing really does make life easier, and the popup blocker is great.
I kicked myself a few times for not switching earlier, especially once I saw that I pick up about 1% (if that) spyware type stuff according to my Adaware and Spybot runs.
Slight problem- if a theater claims a sold out show, they have to pay the film maker/distributor (whatever percentage) for each and every ticket. They don't just pay a one time fee for a print of the movie. So, they would be losing a ton of movie by claiming sold out if they only sell 10% of the tickets.
From the article, MS thinks that they can corner the next gen market by jumping in early, much like the PS2 did by coming out first (well, except for the Dreamcast). While they may get an early lead, Sony's next system will have better tech (like the XBox has now, and a reason some people claimed to get a XBox.), probably pulling customers back.
Sounds like a high risk move, which could backfire like Fahey thinks, or it could set them up to win large chunks of marketshare. Probably will come down to developers and actual games. And Sony could always start saying "PS3 coming out reeealll soon now" to try and blunt MS's early edge by making people wait (one reason why Apple is so tight lipped about new products, they don't want people not buying current systems and waiting for new stuff).
Fahey also points out that MS is losing money with each XBox sale. Assuming this is true, how will that change with a new system, unless they don't put in the best hardware, making a PS3 system look even better, tech wise?
Let MS try it, but I think they need something more compelling than "early mover" status to topple Sony as the game console leader.
Seriously, I've been out of IT for a year. Used my contacts. Used some headhunters. Used job sites. Mailed in paper resumes. Applied in person. Even moved. Finally, applied at a furniture store yesterday. Blah.
Be happy if you have a good job. Heck, be happy if you have a non-burger-flipping job.
Maybe murder 1 and murder 2? Or murder and manslaughter? I didn't follow the case closely, but DAs seem to like to charge people with 10 crimes for one act (ie. murder, conspiracy to murder, unlawful endangerment, etc) to gain leverage. Often the legal system is skew to reality.
"1: Koresh and his 200 members were planning on a trip to Israel. Because of the many people coming, they had to bring an arm for each person (since 17 and over must serve in the israeli military)."
I'm confused on this- they had to bring guns so they could serve in the Israeli military while they were taking a trip to Israel? I'm assuming you meant something different, otherwise this makes little sense.
Then I got laid off, and couldn't get a job for a year. At first I worked at it, then realized that every company I talked to wanted the equivalent of "20 years Java experience", yet didn't want to pay for anyone who had even 2 years experience.
This job sector used to be pretty good, but as far as I can tell it has leveled with most other blue collar jobs. I'm going to open a dog kennel myself.
Sir, I believe that you are lumping American soldiers and civilians with the American government and/or media. Many Americans also oppose the invansion of Iraq, and wish that no lives were lost at all. Unfortunately, American media is based on ratings, which also means "more blood=more ratings".
It is true that right after the attacks on the World Trade Center that most Americans wou;d have probably approved of nuking Great Britian and various other Islamic countries. Thannkfully we (as a country) didn't push that button.
I can say with a straight face that most Americans truely want to make the world a better place. I can not explain how such goodwill gets so perverted in application. I hate that people die for no reason; it seems that the truley evil people get away with everything and live in luxury while good people die in annonymity.
And please do not say that the 700 soldiers that have died are a "lesser concern". They volunteered their lives for their country, whether the country's policy's were right or wrong. Those soldiers believed in something greater than themselves, and gave more than you or me would probably want to even think about.
Shit- drop by and I'll buy you a couple of beers and we can play foosball to decide international concerns!
This is the beauty of digital optical storage- advances are inherently backward compatible since the main advance is storage density in the medium. Hence, DVD players can play/read CDs. Blue-ray DVD players will be able to play current DVDs. And there is the nice fact that optical media doesn't suffer wear and tear unless your dog chews on the disc.

Worlds of ill could come from taking this sentence out of context.

But only for the articles.
Actually, my most regular read is MacAddict. I'd better go put on a flame-proof suit now....
Advertised around 23/32 mpg.
I get around 21/33.
But mine is black, so it's sleeker at higher speeds!

" Former President Bill Clinton said..."
What do you expect him to say? "I didn't know shit!"?
He would never lie about something. Oh, wait....
You may want to pick better sources than perjurers in the future. Just sayin'.
As opposed to your explicit racism.

1- the for good or awesome is a joke
2- as several people pointed out, selling dev systems is illegal (at least for Sony)
need to lay off the caffeine, my friend

Ahh. Thank you for clearing that up. I didn't know they were going for citizenship.
And I totally agree with you that Reno botched the whole thing.
As of 1:30AM US easten time, Ebay is no longer listing his auction.
/. traffic got an Ebay employee to take a look?
Maybe all the

"Wouldn't you rather go into Spinal Tap knowing that it's not a documentary?"
Actually, I did see it thinking it was a documentary. I was kind of disappointed when I later found out it was a doc.
Seriously!
I didn't know it was a porn site before I put that up.
I should have checked first. Sorry.

It is kind of like the Rotisserian (no way that's spelled correctly) Distribution, which is the circumference of the data points.
