I disagree to write off the PS2 like that. Graphically, MGS2 is one of the best looking games of all time. I haven't seen Final Fantasy X yet, so I am not sure how nice that looks. And I don't see any developers abandoning the PS2 for the GameCube or Xbox(unless MS buys them out, of course). Personally, I see the PS2 kicking some major butt cause they have great games out NOW and have been firmly entrenching themselves over the past year.
Then again, both our arguements are based on speculation...
I got my copy of Metal Gear Solid 2 yesterday(odd how it was released right before the Xbox and GameCube launch), and it kicks some major ass. I have yet to see any X-Box game from the demos in stores, or movies released to the web that is as good looking as MGS2.
And I can shoot seagulls's with the PSG1! It's surprisingly satisfying.
Back on the subject, other than what MS bought, I barely see any developer support for them at all. And to make matters worse, the X-Box is HUGE. And if I understand correctly, in Japan, small is good cause apartments tend to be on the small side, but maybe the Japanese version folds out to become a coffee table that keeps your drinks warm as it overheats?
If I want to play Halo, I'll get it for the PC or Mac.
Now if I could figure out how to get into Shell 2 without dying....
It's whether you WANT to charge them a penny/page. Honestly, you think it's wise to charge someone's credit card 1 penny at a time? What about transaction fees with the cardholders' company? And think of the billing statement mess. "Honey, why are there 213 charges for a penny to something called 'OSDN'? Didn someone steal your card over the internet?" *Calls credit card company, who removes the 213 charges, slaps OSDN with the fraud fee for chargebacks*
As for whether I pay, it's simple, I use the donate button on many pages I frequent often. SomethingAwful.com is a good example of a site I support.
It's interesting to try ro decipher some info from the IP addressed that mass scanned DSL Reports. For exmaple:
216.249.93.15 = hsa015.pool022.at101.earthlink.net HSA possibly means High Speed Access, since Earthlink is doing some cable modem stuff now. The pool doesn't give any relavent info. at101 could mean Atlanta, though
The other IP address also go in the form of hsaXXX.poolXXX.at101.earthlink.net, so it definatly looks like it was the same guy
I hope DSL Reports sues the spam off this guy, this type of datamining is just low.
Andrew Welch of Ambrosia Software posted a method that MIGHT work on recovering the files here. Basically sometimes the installer, according to Andrew, just messes with file permissions and visability, not actually deleting them.
I didn't test this because iTunes didn't mess up my 5 partitions, thankfully.
Yes, second digital boxes can be added, though after 2, there may be problems, depending on the cable company, but you can also add analogs in addition to the digitals depending again on the cable company
Yes, most people don't haul hard drives in their pockets, but you don't need 5 gigs for a emergency startup disk. Hence you can use the remaining space for MP3 playing:-)
Another cool iPod fact. According to the FAQ, in FireWire disk mode, you can install system software on the iPod and, get this, BOOT A MAC WITH IT! If you are asking why does this matter, think of it as a small, portable emergency startup disk, and listen to some jamming tunes while your macs are running fine. No more scrouging for CDs(especially when your favorite disk repair tools aren't on them...)
I think it's rather amusing that on the Handspring Treo page, on one of the pics of it, they talk about the ability to send text messages(SMS), and on the screen on the treo, it reads, "I think our internet connection is down again:-("(hope they got permission from despair inc to use their trademark symbol), and right under that pic they talk about the Treo's wireless net capabilties...
Maybe its door will swing open and a middle finger of sort will wave towards the other drivers. Will other cars attack the bird flipping car? Or stop in the middle of the road and cry?
Learn to read story headlines. Timothy's story was "RIAA Wants Right To Hack". Taco's was "RIAA ***Abandons*** Hacking Amendment"(emphasis added by me). In other words, Taco posted a follow up to Tim's story. imadork, do you even read slashdot anymore?
A highly idiotic amendment like this is good for the RIAA's business. Unless the public find out before it becomes law. Now it can become a nice PR nightmare.
Under IE5.1 Final for OS X, go into it's preferences. Under the Recieving Files catagory, choose Download Options. There's 2 checked items by default. 'Automatically decode BinHex' and 'Automatically decode MacBinary'. Uncheck them both and hit ok. IE will now send those files over to Stuffit Expander, like it should. Easy, isn't it?
Option 1, the so called 'instant upgrade'. Starting on September 29th, Apple resellers(including the Apple store and other retail outlets. probably CompUSA, MicroCenter, etc) will get CDs that will upgrade from Mac OS X 10.0.4 -> 10.0
Cost: Gas to get to the store
Option 2: The Apple Mac Up To Date program. You print out a PDF form and mail it to Apple. They mail you back the OS X 10,1 CD, as well as the Mac OS 9.2.1 CD and Developer Tools CD, I believe.
Cost: $19.99, a 6-12 week wait(according to the PDF form)
I think I'll swing by a CompUSA saturday, which is when they hand out the CDs(yes, saturday is the release date. Saturday is always the day retail Apple OS's go on sale it seems...)
First off, I'd like to point tout I submitted this story 3 days ago, and it was rejected minutes later
Anyways, episode 5, 'Ballad of Fallen Angels'. One of the best episode, and marks the first appearence of Vicious. And with a name like that, it's sure to be bloody. Most of the gore seemed intact, although it seemed, but not positive(90% positive) that some blood spraying was digitally removed from the Church battle. And the blood on Mao's neck when Faye first runs into him and Vicious at the opera. And they put 'swimsuits' on the girls in the porno mag. Overall, rather good and I applaud CN for actually showing the series with so few edits and stuff(not 1 second of footage was left out.).
Episode 6, 'Sympathy For The Devil'. Never aired. Why? Your guess is as good as mine why CN skipped it, even though it mentions the Gate accident 50 years ago, which gives some insight on why the Earth is the way it is.
Episode 7, 'Heavy Metal Queen'. yes, VT *is* a woman, reguardless of what the voice actor and the artwork would leave you to believe at first. Nothing noticable was edited, and it is interesting to see what becomes of Woody Allen(or at least people that look like him) in the future(notice the name of the place Faye ran into him unknowingly was?)
Next Episode, number 8, 'Waltz For Venus'. Expect it to meet the fate of episode 6. According to CN's schedule, it won't appear. Why? Cause it starts off with middle eastern looking terrorists trying to hijack a space plane.
For a mere cost of $1000-1900, why weren't people buying these in droves? Seriously, while cool, I'd just buy a car stereo that plays mp3 cds and burn some CDs. It's a cool idea what they did, it's just way overpriced.
So what exactly IS hacking according to the ATA?(how ironic, it's a acrynoum, for a computer term) Seriously, how long before the DCMA is included in this? Will I face federal prosecution for telling a friend about gnutella because the program can be used for illegal stuff? Could CmdrTaco and CowboyNeal be dragged from their homes at 6 in the morning and sent to jail because Slashdot had posted a story that talks about the Microsoft security problem of the week, since that could be concieved as giving advice to hackers? I am writing my senators about this asking them to reject the overly broad terms of the ATA and computer 'hacking'. I hope a number of you do the same.

resolve the domain name to the hostmask if possible, and ban a range of them, for example, *.ma.pool.crapnet.net
Yes, it's broad, but works. Or you can call the ISP and complain to them
