Does anyone realize how low the resolution is on a standard TV? Heck, I coudln't even get the 320x200 output of my Commodore computers to look clear on a TV. (Hence the quick move to S-Video monitors.) I'd hate to have to watch something that was of lower quality than that.
There's only a certain amount of computer knowledge in the world. That knowledge gets spread out among every computer user. This is why sometimes, us geeks, forget something we used to know, because that little part of knowledge gets formatted, and becomes the start (sometimes the entire) of a user's computing experience. (Heh, experience.) So, as the computer-using population continues to grow, the knowledge gets spread out ever so thin. The thinnest part of knowledge has no reference points to other software. It only knows what's in front of it. Therefore, cannot fathom the idea of "the Internet" being anything than that stupid little blue "E".
That is why the sky is blue, because people are too ignorant to see any other color.
Thank you.
Please mod accordingly, as this isn't really THAT far off subject...
...because damnit, it's not the parent's responsibility that children are misguided, and think that anything that "feels good" or their friends do is ok. It's all the government's responsiblity to raise your kids. Schools should provide everything, including parenting, meals, healthcare, and diaper changing.
Ah yes... I was the hardware director for the Commodore East Brunswick Users Group in New Jersey. Was a grand time. Actually, after I finish moving, I'm going to setup my C128 system again... compleat (that's my shout out to Fender Tucker) with a SuperCPU, 100MB CMD HD, 1571's, 1541's, CMD FD-2000, Xetec Supergraphix Gold, Star NX-1000, JiffyDOS, Dual internal SID chips (did the mod myself), and a whole host of software, mice, touch tablets, joysticks, etc... Ah, can't wait!
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L V8, and the 5 speed auto trans (well, the only trans mated to that engine in a WJ), and I average 16.8 or 16.9 MPG. The EPA rates mine at 14 city and 19 highway. My commute to work is about 16 miles, mostly back country roads (yes, a geek in the country), with a few traffic lights and some "city" driving once I'm actually in the middle of town. So, I guess I can't complain at all, since I'm getting about 6-7MPG better than the 1994 Ford Bronco that used to be my daily driver, which is now my trail rig.
I usually find that patches are released for trillian less than 24 hours after the problem is discovered... sometimes less than 12 hours. I can sleep that off.
Ugh, nothin's worse than some loud-mouth @#$%&*! in the parking lot of a hamfest, with a 1KW linear, a CB radio, and no f'in courtesy. Splashin' 50KC's or more... ugh.
They're easy to find, just look for the Suburban with the big-ass coil on the roof.
Ka-Wote: As usual this IE "hole" does not affect anyone that has half a brain, so it really shouldn't be a bother for anyone reading/. right? Un-Ka-Wote:
Well, yea, but there are WAY too many people with WAY less than half a brain using computers... they just happen to NOT be perusing thru slashdot... They'd probly think that Green and White isn't attractive enough for them.
I would think that a small minority of people on/. use IE, mainly being forced by who they work for... I use Mozilla on every PC I use. But, yea, for the most part, people are stupid (outside of/.) and don't know that "the internet" and "internet explorer" are different things.
They're not called laptops anymore... In case you've been under a rock for a few years, they're all referred to as "Notebook" computers... and we all know notebooks belong on a desk... right next to your desktop computer... I think... or so the company probably says...
Remember the old IBM Thinkpad 760 series? They had a silicon pad on the bottom of it (wasn't on the original models, added sometime in their production run) to keep you from burning yourself. It was their "fix" for a computer that had no fan, and got way too hot. And those were only P120-P166 models.
You're joking. C'mon, I mean... like, no way. It all makes sense now... if CNN is this far behind on technology, which moves pretty fast, then they are probably a good 25-30 years behind on their political reporting and viewpoints.
I've always thought that Canadians watched hockey like Americans watch "reality" tv shows, and drank beer... but, hey, I could be wrong:) I was just curious on the gun laws in Canada. Seems wonderful that lots of people have them... seems safe. I'd rather be in a crowd of 1000 armed, legal gun owners, than in a crowd of 995 unarmed people, and 5 armed thugs.
Actually, except for training not being as pleantiful here, you've just decribed my workplace, for the most part. Upstate NY has some decent jobs, and I'm not close to any gangs, and I'm not all that far from camping. And, I'm just minutes away from the pistol range, and friends houses to go target shooting at. Oh, and don't forget about off-roading... I do that on the weekends.
Well, of course, it should be easier to fool a Mac user...
After all... the ICON looked right, didn't it? I mean... If the ICON looks pretty, it must be some kinda candy, right? Because, all viruses and trojans have some sort of evil, nasty looking icon that should scare away the average Mac user... And the icon would clash with the design of the computer anyway... so they would get rid of it. But, if it matches, then, hey, it must be legit.
Well, actually, the HID bulbs are used generally in low-beams. And, no, they really don't cost that much, some writer didn't do proper research... (read: google search: HID Kits)
Anyhoo, HID lights are fantastic, actually. Kinda like using an arc welder to light up the room.
ROFLMAOPMP.... and stuff.

I see that I have hit a nerve. Well done.

Ah yes... and the band Machinae Supremacy that uses that SidStation in their music... it's absolutely fantastic.
I have one of them... and an Action Replay V. And a PROMenade e-prom programmer... :)

CRS-1, that's funny...
Can't Route Shit
Why didn't they think of something better?
heh.
As the video clip of the kid getting his rear bumper pulled off in the snow said...
"Damn."
That's all.
