These are not drivers, which you run on your processor.
True, but the firmware is still needed in order for the driver to do it's job. The issue is not about the public having access to firmware source code, the issue is that these developers need to be able to re-distribute the firmware binaries in order for their drivers to work "out of the box." From what I can see in reading the emails, these licenses are too restrictive for the developers to feel safe in re-distributing them. One of the replies I read from Intel seemed like it was saying they do not mind redistribution, but interpreted the letter sent to them as a plea to change the binary license to be compatible with BSD. I think if there was more communication and less threats against the use of this hardware, a lot more might get done. For the above example, maybe just asking for clarification in writing about permission to re-distribute the firmare binaries would solve the problem?
This reminds me of the majority of distributions that refuse to bundle proprietary video card drivers with their CDs because they do not think they can. Both NVidia and ATI have no problem with the re-distribution of their drivers. NVidia even gives the option of repackaging the driver already compiled for your own custom kernel, and gives a command-line option for their.run installer to do so.
Is there not a happy medium we can reach here? Do we absolutely need to be balking at licenses that allow us to integrate these products in our distributions just because they do not allow us to make modifications?
That is because the author used Qt to write the first toolkit interface for it. From the info I've been reading on the site though, anyone can write a toolkit interface/binding for it. If you are anti-Qt, why not help with a GTK+ interface?
You can have them both for $100. Unless you want to run Doom3 at full speed, why not just buy (or get for free) someone's throwaway when they upgrade for the newest game? I have a 166 MHz Pentium laptop that runs Linux just fine. It was given to me. Maybe this is what Gates meant when he said PCs will be free in the future? Our demand just may end up being oversupplied.
This makes me wonder.. How long until a Linux worm gets wise and tries to run sudo? There goes my dirty little secret.. Time to enable my sudo password. heh
Doctors do get overtime pay, they just get it by different rules. If they work more than 40 hours a week, well they don't get extra for that, but they are allowed to add extra charges for a prolonged office visit when they bill insurance.
There is a solution for that. If you abstract the filename away, then entering "little johnny's graduation" repeatedly would just give her 350 thumbnails to choose from when she types the same thing into a search dialog.:)
I'd like to thank the whole Knoppix modding community. The way they add new features to Knoppix and then share them with each other is amazing. I often see the same features merged in newer versions of Knoppix as well. Proof positive that a project fork can be healthy for open source.
I do not think this is the kind of cluster you can run any software on and enjoy the benefits. The software probably has to be 'cluster aware' using a library like pvm.
This also means KnoppiXMAME will be able to kick it up a notch. I have been waiting for this to develop my next version. Somebody needs to include these drivers in a vanilla distro. Keep your eyes out..
P.S. I have researched re-distribution clauses in both NVidia and ATI's drivers. There is nothing stopping people from including these drivers in their distros. Besides partisan software belivers that is. bahahahhaa! Evil rules your etch-a-sketch! muahahaha!
Put the service pack and all critical updated an a CD or DVD, then install them all before putting it on the net.
I see people saying to use a hardware firewall instead of software but they are just as vulnerable, especially with the recent news of them having wide open web interfaces. If a software-based windows firewall isn't doing the trick, set your old 486 up with OpenBSD.
I think the X Consortium has the "official" X11 specs and implementation (X11 Server). Their server is more of a proof of concept and not accelerated, though. All other servers are made to their specs. Apple can derive from XFree86 because they play well with the license. Unix vendors such as IBM and SGI tend to write their own X servers or have a third party company do it.
A lot of space is sacrificed for the eye candy of using X whereas AdvanceMAME uses svgalib. They are certainly more "Advanced" than me in that respect. But with DVD burners getting so cheap, the difference in space between the projects shouldn't be a factor in deciding which to use. If you plan on using an arcade monitor, go with Advance. If you want a nice graphical wizard to remaster a CD with roms on it for you, my project might be a better choice.

Windows still has QBasic. It's good enough for simple file and text i/o. For both Windows and Linux, wxBASIC looks pretty neat.
Can this decision be related to the recent fact that IBM agreed to reduce dire working conditions workers, while SCO did not?
Normally removing parentheses would still allow a sentence to stand on it's own. In this case, it never even got off the ground.
ping localhost | grep 127.0.0.1
Has this ben confirmed? There are also claims that he may have ripped off pdf2html.
del iexplore.exe
rename firefox.exe iexplore.exe

I, for one, welcome our new Google Overlords.
FireFox is free and does a lot of things much better than IE and you don't see it shooting off into space with use when compared to IE.
Actually, It already has.

That sounds just like The Animatrix.. Except we give the robots somewhere else to live before making them want to kill us.

A custom motherboard with like eight X16 PCI Express slots all doing SLI. Now that would be cool.
Either that, or it shows we are pretentious narcissists :)
However, that is also an overloaded acronym. How much namespace does a Single Letter Acronym get you? Depends on which alphabet you use I suppose..

That is one of my favorite features in Tribes2. If you look down, you see your legs and shadow. You can also toggle between 1st and 3rd person view.

That is pretty much what StarRoms is doing.
