A graphics file [icon] visually represents the underlying graphic.... And there's nothing like it, per se, in Tiger.
I haven't upgraded to Tiger yet, but I can definitely see thumbnail icons for some images in Panther. I think it depends on the program that generates the file (e.g. Photoshop does it).
Actually, there must be laws that protect against this. At the very least, if your boss insinuates that you will be fired for not working, without compensation, for longer than you are legally obligated to, that sounds like pretty iffy ground for him to walk on.
There is another article here about this initiative, worded slightly differently. One thing they mention is this:
By the end of this year, all Canada-U.S. border crossings will require that anyone travelling with a visa provide fingerprints and digital photographs as part of an anti-terrorism program, the American Department of Homeland Security announced yesterday.
I'm wondering if all that information is to be stored on the RFID chips. It certainly sounds like it, in which case this is just asking to be hacked for identity theft.
Also:
The use of biometrics -- already in place at 115 airports, 15 seaports and 50 U.S. land border crossings -- has so far blocked entry to 9,000 people, including 700 criminals, one of whom was posing as a Canadian trucker and was wanted in Germany for murder.
Sounds good at first. But wait: doesn't that mean that 8,300 non-criminals were denied entry? I'd be curious to know on what grounds they were turned back. Sounds a bit frightening to me.
But if the U.S. wants to become insular, fine with me. I'm not visiting again if I can help it.
(Out of curiousity, and not entirely related, what would happen if every country decided to stop all trade with the U.S. They are a net-importing economy, right?)
I can't believe that no one has linked Eats Shoots and Leaves, the much-discussed book about mis-used punctuation and the decline of grammar in general.
Quite a good read, I must say, with many funny examples.
Except that if GMail used IMAP, you could use their 1G of storage for *all* your email.
Then just configure your desktop/laptop/whatever with GMail's IMAP settings. Boom: access to all your email, anytime, anywhere, via a mail client or webmail.
My bet is they would get more adopters if they offered IMAP.
LIMITED EDITION COLLECTORS BOX
A stylish and uniquely designed box is included and can be a temp or permanent home for your player.
Unique, my ass. It looks nearly identical to the iPod boxes. And laser engraving on the stainless steel back side. Hrmm... where I have a seen that before.
I picked up a 20" G4 iMac a few months ago, then found out about the G5s coming down the line. I seem to have this thing with Apple that everytime I buy something from them, a newer model gets announced the next week. Oh well.
I was really upset though about missing out on a G5 iMac. However, after seeing the design, I don't feel so bad. Yes, I'd like a G5 instead of G4, but the design isn't as inspired IMHO. That huge bottom bezel on the front just sticks out as ugly. And you can't tilt the screen side-to-side like on the iLamps.
The only thing that would've made my choke is if the new iMac could pop off it's stand and turn into a tablet PC. *That* would be the nuts.
Yup, and both of Canada's largest ISPs -- Rogers and Bell Sympatico -- are advertising 2GB of email storage when you sign-up to one of their plans.
Personally, I'd much rather use that storage space for backups or remote file storage than for webmail. Maybe I should sign up and start emailing myself all my backups as email attachments...
Whoa, hang back a second here. I'm not saying that the other bits of.mac don't exist. I am just saying that they are of relatively little value to me.
And I think his point was that why are you paying for.Mac at all when there are other companies out there that are willing to sell you what you do want at a much lower price?
If you really only need lots of storage space, then a pure hosting provider is going to be much cheaper. Heck, do what I do and hang a server off your DSL line, throw a big hard drive in it, and set up the AFP protocol so you can mount that space from any Mac anywhere you want.
(And if you need the iSync features as well, I', pretty sure there are a bunch of apps out there that do it without needed.Mac)
One more:

And then it all went, like, BEEP BEEP BEEP, and ate your homework?
I'm trying to Google some more information on this incident, without success.
Got any links?

Then again, I'm in Canada. YMMV.

Grab Shorewall, a cheapo Pentium II, 2 NICs, and your favourite flavour of Linux.
I assume the teacher signed with their own pen, which had been previously tested.
It's inside a mall.
The Ottawa Renegades are a CFL team. That's a professional sports organization, for non-Canadians (or CFL-ignorant ones).
They aren't "university affiliates", except to the extent that I bet they use their stadium.
This is a case of a business harvesting email addresses from an organization's website and sending unsolicited messages.
Yeah, but they'll need this sub-$100 laptop to go to eBay first.
Forget Trading Spaces ... this clearly is a tie-in to the new Tron movie. Right?
I spent hundreds of dollars on my CD system, and now I find that I can't play my legally-bought-and-paid-for LPs on it!

And how exactly did the grandparent post about gynocology make you think of your girlfriend's dad? Who is a plumber, no less?
On second thought, I don't want to know.
Bah, you kids today ...
Get a whole bunch of other sets and make your own Star Trek base. That's what we did.

Domain locking is a feature provided by the registry. As such, *every* registrar could offer it to their customers.
You can do monitor spanning on the iBooks, despite what Apple or resellers may say. It just requires a (simple) firmware hack to enable it.
I've got it enabled on my iBook (the first model, G3/800, in the white plastic design).
Which is exactly what the babysitter and boyfriend were relying on.
He'll still need to hide his porno from the aliens.

I'm with you on this.

Already done.
