This smells like a another smear piece by Intel to me
...and you smell like a troll. Intel has announced they've made an advancement in technology and all you can do is bash them. Someone had to break the.65nm "barrier" and you're such a fanboy that you can't stand that it was Intel. Grow up. I'm quite sure the Opteron will eventually benefit from a die shrink as well.
And what if he pays for his Internet connection on a per-byte basis? Highly unlikely, but not impossible.
Depends on what part of the world you're in. I understand that in Australia it's nearly impossible to get a high speed connection that isn't capped. (or at least in Melbourne where a friend of mine lives)
Most computer users know how to click on a download link and double-click on the file they've saved. It's a challenge to envision a user capable of using a computer who couldn't perform these two steps.
Try working in tech support. I'm neither kidding, nor trolling. I'm dead serious.
they think you're too stupid to create a user account.
Most average users are. Most don't even know what a user account is. Most don't know what Windows Update is. While they all know what a virus is, most are confused when you use the distinction, "worm."
Sorry, it's beside the piont, but working in tech support I'm constantly reminded of these things.
Must be nice. I work in tech support and we're not allowed to tell people that KaZaa is spyware riddled garbage. I guess management is afraid we'll get sued.
So I get to deal with, "This computer is slow! it's a piece of junk!" when they've brought it all on themselves by installing crap on it.
According to this article at NewsForge, the Ford move to Linux is untrue.
-- snip -- Joan Witte, Communications Manager for Ford Motor Information Technology, had this statement to make late this afternoon when I called her at her Detroit office about a story being reported that Ford was moving to Linux.
Witte said "Like any other company, Ford Motor is looking at Linux, primarily in the application space. We presently have an enterprise-wide agreement with Microsoft to handle our collaborative solutions. We aren't contemplating using Linux in this area, and don't contemplate doing that in the foreseeable future." -- snip --
You are of course entitled to your opinion. Personally, I dumped Trillian for Miranda-IM. I find it leaner and the interface cleaner. Oh, and it's GPL'ed.
Personally, I'm sticking with Trillian, I'll just stop using the MS IM service.
I don't have a desktop machine, only a laptop. It runs Debian GNU/Linux, which was the best distribution in terms of respecting freedom as of the time we set up the machine. (The availability of GNU/LinEx is a recent development.)
Clearly he is indicating that if he were to install that system now he wouldn't choose Debian. Now that this LinEx is around, it seems Debian is no longer good enough for His Holiness.
By supporting Windows, I mean providing technical support to end users in instances where things don't "just work" as you say they should.
You're also taking for granted that every Joe Sixpack knows what "double click" means or what the difference between a "desktop" and a "screen saver" is.
For something that's so easy to use, I spend a lot of time explaining remedial things to end users, so don't try to tell me that Windows has no learning curve for the average user.
To say that SUSE is so amazingly superior to windows, the operating system that 95% of the computing public chooses to use, is ludicrous.
Hold it right there, pal. To say that 95% of the computing public chooses to use Windows is ludicrous. Fact is the vast majority of Windows users did not choose it, it was simply preinstalled.
Furthermore, the fact that most people use Windows does not make Windows superior, nor does it preclude another product from being superior to Windows.
Blaster would be on your system before your downloads were complete.
I've seen it happen.
Don't tempt me, Frodo!
.....
I would invoke the DMCA out of desire to do good, but through me it would--
Shit, I think I just hit critical mass of geekdom. Excuse me while I go kill myself.
I seriously read that and wondered just where the author was east of.
Hell, I'm in the east and there's no snow flying accompanied by wind.
I suppose we're all supposed to know where this guy lives? That's arrogant.
...and wasn't there this one too?
"A critter in every pot!"
Fine! Go play Harry butthole pussy Potter!

Who modded this idiot up? Shame on you.

it's a safe bet that Konqueror is much more secure than Internet Explorer.
My bicycle tied to the gate with a piece of string is more secure than Internet Explorer.

Tell 'em KaZaa sucks for me, will ya?
Knock it off. You're not a Jedi.
Once you get out of the highly suburban and densely populated southern parts of the states
States???
What country are you talking about?
If you're referring to Canada, the word you're fishing for is "provinces."

Dammit
I was waiting for 0.2 because I never could get 0.1 to run (Windows).
Now I download 0.2 and it won't run either.
Anyone else had this problem?
Trillian is by far the best windows IM client.
You are of course entitled to your opinion. Personally, I dumped Trillian for Miranda-IM. I find it leaner and the interface cleaner.
Oh, and it's GPL'ed.
Personally, I'm sticking with Trillian, I'll just stop using the MS IM service.
The aforementioned aside, I agree completely.

Actually, a friend of mine (and former co-worker) did become employed by them, and is moving to Waterloo, ON.
Needless to say I've sent him the link to this story.
I hope he doesn't come back and tell me he's been laid off already.

The fact is, in Windows, things work instantly.
No the fact is, things are supposed to work instantly.
You should really try supporting Windows XP sometime.
As for your girlfriend, she finds Linux difficult because she's already learned something different.
They buy it for what it will do off the shelf.
In that case, Windows is a means to that end. People only care about the end result, not that Windows is what is being used to get there.
You can Rip, Mix and Burn on a Linux system too.
The most popular product is ALWAYS the superior product, the consumers have made it so.
Definition of "Superior"
Nowhere in that definition does it indicate that "superior" is a synonym of "popular"
Do you also believe that the Backstreet Boys are superior to all other music artists because more radio stations play them?
The fact is, I haven't tried to redefine "superior" pal, you have.
I work in tech support, and in doing so I've learned...
most home users choose Windows
a startling number of people have no idea what is on their computer, and.....
Linux is too difficult for most non-geeks
Windows XP is too difficult for most non-geeks.
Linux is different than Windows, and only more difficult when it doesn't come preinstalled.
To say that SUSE is so amazingly superior to windows, the operating system that 95% of the computing public chooses to use, is ludicrous.
