  4. Artifact Desktop on Best Websites for Developers? · · Score: 0
There's a program for Windows users called Artifact Desktop that's really cool.

It is a small program that lets you connect to resources, message boards, and live chat for any number of languages (not just Windows dominant languages).

It's still in beta and is a bit buggy, but I've been impressed with it. It's free too. Go check it out now :)

  5. Framework on Mono and .NET - An Interview · · Score: 0

I'd like to shed a bit of light regarding the .NET Framework.

Firstly, the .NET Framework is a free download for Windows users, and MS plans on implementing it on other platforms as well. This has always been their plan, so that you can write a program in Windows and have it work on Linux, Mac, etc.

Secondly, I wouldn't trust an open source version. It's not that I don't like open source, and that they wouldn't do a good job. But I'm sure MS is not going to let you know every little nook and cranny of the framework which is basically a bunch of libraries and compilers.

What may end up happening is a year down the road the open source .net framework is shown to not be living up to the requirements of the original framework.. which would be very bad from a development point of view.

Imagine writing a program in c# and it doesn't work properly. But the coding is all correct.. What a nightmare..

Just like to point out, MS is not making cash off of the framework, but off the visual studio section. Anyone with windows can get the .net framework and sdk for free with windows update.

  9. Re:X-box safer? on Security Concerns When Consoles Go Online? · · Score: 1, Insightful

First of all, Xbox is based on a Windows 2000 kernel. Windows 2000 has been around for a while and has had quite a few patches and security fixes before the Xbox was even released. Windows 2000 is about as stable and secure as you can get in terms of an MS OS.

I don't worry at all about it being hacked by script kiddies. Even if it is hacked, MS has included a method to update the kernel. Also, if it is hacked so bad that it actually ruins something, I'll just take it back to EB and get a new one under my 2 year warranty.

Secondly, the Xbox team is quick to point out that the Xbox is not meant to be a 'multimedia hub' or whatever you want to call it. The Xbox is meant for games only (although it is definately capable of much more). Someone doing even preliminary research would have discovered this fact. The guys over at MS have other devices in the works for a full entertainment system - which get posted on newsgroups as 'Xbox 2???' - no it is a completely different system.

Please do some research people before popping off at the keyboard about shit you think you heard or by putting together 5 rumours and calling it a fact.

Of course it cleaned up. Have you ever seen any of Peter Jackson's other works? Dead Alive, Meet The Feebles, or Bad Taste? They're all pretty good in their own rights (my personal favourite being Dead Alive). I was very suprised when I heard he was directing them, but I knew he could do a good job.

One wonders how many other 'unknown' directors that got their start on cheezy movies would do better than the so called old stand-bys of Hollywood. I'm guessing there's quite a bit of good talent out there that never gets taken advantage of. It also seems like they generally originate from the world of B-Movies (such as Sam Raimi of Evil Dead fame)

    Check those other movies out!

Who cares! I'm sure that John Ritter did that on purpose right? It's rediculous to think that an obvious mishap like this would adversely affect your child. If it does, well I think your kid has some kind of problem. These are things that happen in REAL LIFE to REAL PEOPLE and.. ALL THE TIME!! It's probably even happened to you a few dozen times and you just haven't noticed. If your son's never seen a set of testicles before, then I think there's something wrong with him. And no, your 6 year old daughter is not going to become a slut because she saw a mishap on TV that was an accident. I think we need to grow up a little before we have children.. well some of us anyway. How is the world 'fucked up'? because accidents happen? If someone's walking down the street with their fly undone by accident are you going to sue them because your kid saw it? Don't be a lamer. Actors are only human too. Besides your kids have probably seen worse in your private VHS collection that you think they don't know about.
