What they don't realize is that this could hurt trade relations with the USA. If MS complains about this I'm sure the government will be forced to listen.. and it might have a direct negative impact on the trade agreement.
There's a program for Windows users called Artifact Desktop that's really cool.
It is a small program that lets you connect to resources, message boards, and live chat for any number of languages (not just Windows dominant languages).
It's still in beta and is a bit buggy, but I've been impressed with it. It's free too. Go check it out now:)
I'd like to shed a bit of light regarding the.NET Framework.
Firstly, the.NET Framework is a free download for Windows users, and MS plans on implementing it on other platforms as well. This has always been their plan, so that you can write a program in Windows and have it work on Linux, Mac, etc.
Secondly, I wouldn't trust an open source version. It's not that I don't like open source, and that they wouldn't do a good job. But I'm sure MS is not going to let you know every little nook and cranny of the framework which is basically a bunch of libraries and compilers.
What may end up happening is a year down the road the open source.net framework is shown to not be living up to the requirements of the original framework.. which would be very bad from a development point of view.
Imagine writing a program in c# and it doesn't work properly. But the coding is all correct.. What a nightmare..
Just like to point out, MS is not making cash off of the framework, but off the visual studio section. Anyone with windows can get the.net framework and sdk for free with windows update.
First of all, Xbox is based on a Windows 2000 kernel. Windows 2000 has been around for a while and has had quite a few patches and security fixes before the Xbox was even released. Windows 2000 is about as stable and secure as you can get in terms of an MS OS.
I don't worry at all about it being hacked by script kiddies. Even if it is hacked, MS has included a method to update the kernel. Also, if it is hacked so bad that it actually ruins something, I'll just take it back to EB and get a new one under my 2 year warranty.
Secondly, the Xbox team is quick to point out that the Xbox is not meant to be a 'multimedia hub' or whatever you want to call it. The Xbox is meant for games only (although it is definately capable of much more). Someone doing even preliminary research would have discovered this fact. The guys over at MS have other devices in the works for a full entertainment system - which get posted on newsgroups as 'Xbox 2???' - no it is a completely different system.
Please do some research people before popping off at the keyboard about shit you think you heard or by putting together 5 rumours and calling it a fact.
It's plain insane to be using an AS/400 to begin with. ANyone that has ever programmed on it will know what I'm talking about. It's a piece of crap and it could easily be replaced by a souped-up PC running some version of linux. It's a lemon, people.
If you are working for the government I doubt you need help from people from slashdot. Presumably the way you got the job in the first place is because you know what your doing...
If you do work for the government you should probably be fired for asking a stupid question and leaking the fact that you are working on a top secret submarine project
I think it's a stupid idea most people are too busy using their computer to do important things - not watch some lame dial on their case which is probably hidden from view below the desk anyway
Anyone that lives in Canada already has heard about this a long time ago and it is PROPOSED people! That doesn't mean that it's going to take effect. I don't think you guys should worry about what happens in our country when you don't even have all of the facts. It's even plain right on the.pdf that it's proposed, right on the first page. I think you should do the research before you believe anything you see on slashdot. Lately I've noticed they go for the sensationalism, and when you dig deeper, the story is nothing but fluff. I'm extremely disapointed in/. lately.. I just want you guys to know that. It's getting so that I don't even like reading this crap anymore. Do you even bother to verify your damn stories anymore?
Of course it cleaned up. Have you ever seen any of Peter Jackson's other works? Dead Alive, Meet The Feebles, or Bad Taste? They're all pretty good in their own rights (my personal favourite being Dead Alive). I was very suprised when I heard he was directing them, but I knew he could do a good job.
One wonders how many other 'unknown' directors that got their start on cheezy movies would do better than the so called old stand-bys of Hollywood. I'm guessing there's quite a bit of good talent out there that never gets taken advantage of. It also seems like they generally originate from the world of B-Movies (such as Sam Raimi of Evil Dead fame)
If you guys had've paid attention instead of bashing the show, you would have heard them refer to "charging" the plating. That would shed a beam of light on the "offline" phrase used later on... wouldn't it.
I bet it's hard core Trekkies that are disapointed in the show. Too bad.
Who cares!
I'm sure that John Ritter did that on purpose right? It's rediculous to think that an obvious mishap like this would adversely affect your child. If it does, well I think your kid has some kind of problem. These are things that happen in REAL LIFE to REAL PEOPLE and.. ALL THE TIME!! It's probably even happened to you a few dozen times and you just haven't noticed. If your son's never seen a set of testicles before, then I think there's something wrong with him. And no, your 6 year old daughter is not going to become a slut because she saw a mishap on TV that was an accident. I think we need to grow up a little before we have children.. well some of us anyway.
How is the world 'fucked up'? because accidents happen? If someone's walking down the street with their fly undone by accident are you going to sue them because your kid saw it? Don't be a lamer. Actors are only human too. Besides your kids have probably seen worse in your private VHS collection that you think they don't know about.
The problem here is that when you're going to a college or university you are paying to use their computers. So why in hell should you have to pay someone for computer access and not have full access and/or have them read your email? I agree with you in regards to business, as they do have a right to know what their employees are doing.. because they are paying them. But at school it is the reverse.. you are paying the school for their services. I think schools often forget that they are a service and the students are clients, not a company with employees

How come the phone if supposedly made out of paper.. when unfolded is clear? Obviously it's more plastic than paper. I have yet to see any kind of paper that's clear and reflective like that. Also it probably emits so much radiation that you'll die of cancer before you buy the next phone.
Yeah, that's great. Too bad it won't go get my damn beverage for me. You still need some sucker to load him up with Dr. Pepper or what have u.
Do you think they'll be playing Solitaire on their HUD on the way to a sortie?

You forgot one thing.
Today is not April 1st
or Mac Owner's Day as I like to call it.
Kids if you see a Mac in your school.. RUN don't walk to the nearest replacement school.
Have them read this book:
Modern Systems Analysis and Design (3rd Edition)
It seems to me these people don't know the basic system development lifecycle that every decent project manager should know..

Friends don't let friends use the AS/400.

I've played guitar for over 10 years and I just have to say..
too bad the pictures are on Fernandez guitars
I love the pics but I wouldn't be caught dead playing a piece of crap like that
