  1. 200,000 Resumes on How To Manage Hundreds of Thousands of Documents? · · Score: 1

I've written a recruitment app that has 200k resumes and other types of folder indexed in text.

The files live on the disk in /TYPE/YEAR/MONTH and are converted to text and inserted into MySQL database.

They can be searched on name, date record id, free text, type, etc, etc; or just browsed to on disk.

The front end is PHP on MySQL.

These were imported from a files on disk approach.

It can scale with master slave replication, etc. Just keeping it simple helps.

    I understand!

Disclaimer: I have been in recruitment for 15 years and use profiling tests.

The key is that no one profiling test can be used in isolation to validate a candidate's 'fit' for the role. 'Fit' is curcial in any role regardless of how specialised it is - (please use logic for both approaches of fitness).

If a company is using these as barrier tests then either it is for a sound reason or incompetance - its just your choice to work out which it is.

I had a candidate recently who did not want to undertake apptitude test in XP because they were convinced all applicants would blitz the test ie: it was erelevant.

Testing in HR is a tool to find a benchmark, nothing more nothing less. If a candidate does not want to undertake testing then it is a CLEAR sign of thier interest in the role (and that is niether GOOD NOR BAD - it's their friggin' life :-)

Short answer: Don't want the job, Don't so the tests. ...but I failed...

No you did not - suprisingly there may be other people on the Earth who fitted better for the role.

Put it this way - if it WAS your businesses and you did have the house/farm/cat on the line don't you think that it is YOUR choice to make ...?

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

The reason to upgrade I think is simple: I you are a M$ tech then you have to upgrade to suport your clients, mum, etc.

Pretty soon there is no reason to EOL the product 'cos the tech says "Oh I only do XP now".

An example I had was upgrading my '95 box - it came back to me with '98 from the shop because they didn't want to stuff around with drivers in '95.

I know from my own expereinces that I don't recall (or want to) all the details of OS's that M$ has let go of.

If you are a consumer and don't want to pay for support - upgrade - even if you bought your PC last year - because all the M$ goat herders will lack a clue in a few months as they yet again learn new names for the same old shit and deseretaly try to get acredited so they can tell their freinds they are "good with computers".
