I agree with a lot of what you have said. It is interesting that a country that prides itself on liberty, freedom and democracy has always had such a large military. There is an element of crypto fascism in america.
I agree with a lot of what you have said, which to sum up is that culture can be a huge affect on what people find attractive. People don't like to look at sexuality like this because it's a point of that can be used to justify homosexuality and other sexual practices shunned by western soceity.
I don't think it has as much to do with "communication" skills as it does with empathy, or the ability to appreciate the feelings of others and to respond appropriately. If you can't do that, you'll have a hard time in the dating game no matter how articulate you might be...
I can only talk from my own experience, i have seen women throw themselves at men who are dumb/criminals/liars/etc. all because they were good communicators and attractive. I have ssen women with nice guys too but they tend to be fairly social people too. No one has a right to loving relationship, your lucky if someone loves you, why should a women love you if you have terrible social skills ?
Nerds have trouble getting dates because they have poor social skills. It doesn't matter how much of a genius you are if you struggle to communicate with the people around you then maybe you don't deserve to procreate.
I guess the moral of the story is that the women are getting smarter, and guys are getting dumber, and that the guys who are getting smarter are going to be working for women.
Women have been outperforming men academically for decades, female top dogs are still relatively few and far between.
Anything exposed to the night side (or the side where the sun ain't) is going to be cold but a CPU is still going to need a heat sink to effectively remove the heat. Empty space is not a particularly good conductor of thermal energy (i.e. heat).
I have always wondered why CPUs can't increase or decrease their clock on the fly depending on enviromental conditions (a lot like fans that use a temperature sensor and spin faster when the temp increases).
Certianly here in england there can be a significant temperature difference between summer and winter, the possible temp differences could obviously be much greater in space. Perhaps this is something to think about when we design the rad hardened processors for moon bases ?.
Don't intel chips already do this kind of ?, I remember seeing a test where people were running Quake 3 and took the heatsink, they were able to carry on playing albeit very slowly (the AMD chip instantly fried).
I guess this probably wouldn't fly with consumer devices since people would get frustrated when their computer variously speeds up and slows down. But for time sensitive processor intensive apps this would make a lot of sense.
And again unfortunately, the only way to get good performance out of those designs is by explicitly coding for parallel processing. And that's hard for humans.
Yes its hard now but it won't always be hard, we will develop tools and methodologies that help us, just as we have before.
I simply don't see the value in a 1965 magazine article which can be read electronically quite easily.
A paper magazine can be read by anyone, anywhere. An electronic copy requires compatible hardware and software, as well as electrical energy. If all the electronic copies got deleted or corrupted we could always create a new copy from the original paper version.
What if we run out of oil ?, what if the aliens invade ?, what if the terrorists win ?. what good would a PDF file be then huh ?.
But this just seems to be asking for a lot of trouble. Humanitarily speaking, since they are not actually in any country, who protects the rights of those 600 laboring software engineers? Does anyone have the authority to make sure that it's not (child) slave labor? No government agency can make sure that working conditions are safe and healthy.
If people can be convinced to go and work in Iraq than they will be able to find people to work 3 miles off the shore of Los Angeles.
It would be even better, if apps let artists automatically update and release their work to a Free repository.
Obviously beggars can't be choosers, however you seem to be suggesting a randomn hodge podge of art, games these days require an coherent artistic vision. Art is a very important part of game design, artists are often involved long before a code monkey sits down and starts tapping keys.
Spending $1000 or so on a dual-core P4EE is going to lead to drastically worse performance in gaming than a run-of-the-mill, say, 3.2ghz P4....not like any self-respecting gamers are buying Intel these days, anyways.
Drastically worse ?, I guess it depends on the speed of cores in the DC (Dual Core) chip, if they are individually slower than 3.2 GHz then yeah you probably would see worse performance. However it is worth bearing in mind that most OS's can make use of two processors by using one to run the OS and another to run an application.
So if the cores in the DC chip are both 3.2 GHz (I know there not at the moment but hypothetically) then performance would actually increase slightly because you have a core dedicated to the system and a core dedicated to game.
I agree with you that no serious gamer should be thinking of running out and buying a DC chip right now. However the only reason that games are single threaded is because almost all PC's use a single core CPU, once they start becoming a bit more common developers will start taking advantage of it.
Also others have pointed out that 3.2 GHz chips are rarely stretched at the moment anyway so it could be possible to see a slower DC chip coupled with increased IO and Memory bandwidth outperform an existing single core CPU.
Basically what I am saying is that like all bleeding edge technologies this does have the potential to make games faster/prettier/sound better/etc.
It's called the process of creative destruction, and American industry will rise again, much like the Phoenix of lore. Contrast that with what Europe attempted by protecting its industries rather than letting them go and you'll see who had the better model.
Your kidding right ?, look up american tariffs on steel locking out european suppliers.
The EU does subsidise agriculture to a quite astonishing level, but the negative effects of this are mainly felt in africa rather than america.

Note to both the women that read this site:
I reckon thats probably a bit optimistic.
Those guys are sociopaths. They have the ability to fake empathy, and use it for manipulative purposes. They often become politicians.
Great how do I become one ?

If the old pope was called john paul why isn't the new one called george ringo ?.
Well at least we have proof positive that U.S. polititians aren't the only dirty ones.
You obviously haven't paid any attention to British Politics over the last 20 years.

no but it will make your internet faster.
yeah it is a bit dull to anyone who has been following dual core or even just SMP.
Cue loads of stupid people saying this technology is crap because most apps aren't multithreaded and the clockspeeds are lower than their current cPU.

And its slashdoted, when will the madness stop.

There's actually quite a bit of difference between Civ 1 and 3... 1 and 2 on the other hand... not so much.
Gameplay, rules and such, yes. The rendering engine is basically the same though, the graphics are a lot nicer but it still just isometric tiles.
Maybe I should congratulate the dev team for their release and offer up some code instead of complaining.
I don't think code is the problem, programmers might be willing to work for free but professional artists expect to get paid.
In terms of the game engine there is very little difference between Civ 1 and Civ 3, its just that the latter has much prettir graphics.
If like me you don't get BBC3, thanks to google image search you can see what he looks like here.
And here he is with a pretty lady.

Hey Bush knows what he is doing. Everything will be fine.
