Perhaps you want me to cross the Pond and end up in a country where they have more video cameras than people?
If your talking about Britain I think Its worth pointing out that the population is much denser than America. Most people in Britain live in cities, I would liek to see a comparison of major american cities with British ones. I suspect the number of cameras is fairly similar.
Apparently there was a bmw ad in a british newspaper advertising "the worlds first hands free steering wheel due to a EU ban on right hand drive cars".
Also on bbc radio 2 they pretended that a memorial to the queen mum was going to be lump of granite placed in pall mall. Lots of of people got quite upset about it, funny really.
I think what probably happened was that he didn't realise how seriously some losers.. sorry.. Doctor Who fans would take the whole thing and they scarred him off.
A small fire would be very easy to put out anyway, im sure the trolly dollies are trained to use a fire extinguisher. how many times (when smoking used to be allowed on planes) did people used to set fire to things with cigarettes?
I don't know about planes but cigarettes that aren't extinguished properly is one of the biggest causes of house fires.
If anything, the news here is that Apple is selling a significant share of iPods to a) PC owners and b) not just gadget-freak PC owners with new, fully tricked-out systems but run of the mill PC owners.
I agree that countries with long histories that have evolved slowly over time to become democracies are generally very stable.
The UK is considered to be one of the most socialy and politically stable contries in the world. Yet many americans show disdain for the UK because there isn't a formal constitution. I think this is actually a strenght and not a weakness.
Its not to say that nation building is impossible, gemrany and japan are great examples. Its worth pointing out that in both those examples many more allied soldiers died in the process than have done in Iraq. It seems the US doesn't have the same stomach for nation building as it did after the second world war.
But in a country like the UK, the fact that you can see the history and the roots of democracy can be traced back over a thousand years helps create a socio political climate that is very difficult for the people to criticise.
It will take more than DRM to safegaurd digital media. The problem is the existance of formats that don't have DRM, as everyone on/. knows you only need to break the DRM once, convert it to a non DRM format (say Ogg Vorbis) and then the cat is out of bag. It's foolish to think that Microsoft and the media companies don't realise this, which is where TCPA comes in. Their ultimate goal is not to allow a user to access DRM media on any device that also lets the user encode or decode non DRM formats.
The repurcussions of this are that in the future we may see normal PC's and media PC's become seperate markets. The media companies won't allow you to download or play a DRM media file on a normal PC but they will on your **AA company approved media center PC.
The future could be very bleak for the computer as we know it.
It all seems kind of pointless though, if Microsoft are still allowed to sell winXP pro alongside this version then who will buy it ?. Even if the media player enabled version is banned from the EU what will stop people from buying a copy of XP Pro from outside of Europe ?.
This doesn't really help people developing other media player software at all.
It sounds good, especially if like me you live in the UK. However gloabal warming would likely disrupt the gulf stream, which is important because it keeps northern europe a lot warmer that it should be.
So global warming would actually make where I live colder...
Microsoft are in a position where growth may be technically impossible within their core bussiness. I think they recognize this and it probably explains why they have thrown so much money at the XBox.
Apparently he asked to be in the show, which makes the whole thing stranger.
ADD (for what it's worth)
Yeah i think ADD is a joke too.

There's a joke in Canada about American beer.
Q.) How's American beer like sex in a Canoe?
A.) They're both f***ing close to water.
Monty python if I am not mistaken.
jeez louise, get a sense of humour will ya
My friend billy g has been warning me of the dangers of these machines for years. Its about time someone finally did something about them.

Thats not news, where have you been ?
Sex is cheaper.
Really ?, I must be getting really ripped off...
You should treat a microsoft operating system like you would a beautiful woman, expect it to look good but assume it is capable of nothing.

My knowledge of Clarke isn't very good, did he politicise himself or was he politicised by the Bush administration ?
I was (foolishly) hoping that this thread wouldn't get dragged into a left-right debate. I was wrong.
At the end of the day what other kind of debate is there ?
I support everything he's saying, but he's leaking credibility at an alarming rate.
Why?, because he criticised Bush ?.
Gates might have a little trouble calling this guy a communist.
Well it wouldn't surprise me if he did, Clarke is supposed to be quite pally with Clinton remember.

I agree that it won't say much for Bush if two Axis of Evil members get nukes while we were busy with the third.
There are more than three axis of evil countries...
N. Korea
Iran
Syria
Cuba
The writers really should have taken a Q from the Earth environment of First Contact.
He was a good character, maybe they should give him his own series....
Yeah, it's a perfectly cromulent technique -- I used to do that back home to bulls-eye whomp rats in my T-16.
Thats Unpossible !
*hangs head in shame*
