    IBM is a services company. Human capital is their advantage. Unless they are not making a profit do not expect layoffs en masse. trimming fat, maybe. 150K sounds like bullcrap.

    I had the same thoughts as you with the first iPods compared to equivilent MP3 players at the time. I know this, I saw, watched, oohh'd and ahhhh'd at this iPhone. It looks like the coolest device and the easiest to use ever. I cannot wait to get one. For once in a long time I am looking to be an early adopter even if it costs me a premium.

    This is a freaking troll post. there is finally tons of fibre being laid. verizon is laying fibre faster than a vegas prostitute and the cablecos are running fiber basically infront of every home. cringleys "not enough bandwidth" prediction is as good as SEN Stevens "fat pipes" comments. stupid old people.

    I think the heart of your argument is correct, however I think that the patent system has gotten so bad that the companies need to file these "crap" patents to prevent themselves from being the next RIM/NTP example.

    aimless is right. no future royalties. this was a cheap settlement and a cheap on that RIM wanted at this point. this is clearly a victory for RIM. now maybe NTP will squander their new found fortune and sue MS, the Treo's, etc.

    I agree. If companies gave more work to people and held people to work requirements then who cares what personal emails and calls are made. This isn't about productivity but about information security. There are plenty of companies suggesting mid-day naps to boost total productivity.

    IANAL but I don't think there is much apple can do. Unless they stole some patented technology, they should be fine with that desing. You cannot copyright style or asthetics. If there were a trademarked shape (apple, nike swoosh) also copied then there would be a problem.

    You cannot protect a scent, that's why fragrances can be duplicated, generic drugs and grocery store products are another example.

    GATES: Well certainly there is always going to be free software, and there will be commercial software. We represent one company that has commercial software and can stand behind it in terms of support and compatibility. But we have always believed that free software space will be there and will be complimentary.
