    Hate to tell you this but your immune system can be destroyed by continual exposure to varying types of chemicals. You then become violently ill based on exposure to significantly less chemicals. It's quite bad if you know someone that has had a problem with this type of illness.

    I guess people who think everything is "bullshit" are lacking the empathy until it happens to them or someone they care about.

    Sounds like a Republican to me.
    Here's how:
    1)republican == christian right
    2)christian religion preaches help everyone, turn the other cheek, ... == reality is they bomb (preemptive strikes) anyone they please, they are trying to become the next empire (guess they dont read history books) and they sure as shit help no one (medical, social programs, etc ...)
    3)republican party == hypocrites

    Keep lying to yourselves, maybe someday you'll believe the "bullshit" you put out.

    You've got to suck it up and get experience somewhere. Great paying jobs aren't necessarily as good as great experience. My first job paid barely enough to live on (in Dallas) and I still say I learned more there than in the 4+ years since.

    The experience pays off loads more in the long run. Trust me on this one. I make over 60k in oklahoma of all places, and with my contracts and side jobs I make over 150k combined (although i'm very lucky in my relationships).

    Hard work pays off if you do what Scrooge McDuck said "Work smarter not harder!". Best lesson ever from a stupid Disney cartoon.

    I'm constantly checking for new stories and other great material to digest.

    I only check email at 7am when I get to work and at 1pm after lunch and at 4:30 just before leaving. No concentration broken at all. I have plenty of time to come up with insightful, intelligent, well thought out comments like "Frist Post".

    I'm a fan of online gaming but the stakes in the MMORPGs are too high. You feel like you're always behind. Where as in Neverwinter or Counter Strike you're only as good as the map and your skills.

    Which mine have deminished significantly recently, where are you CS:Condition Zero?!?!?!?!

    If I get it from a dealer (like ClubMac). I don't pay tax $207.92 (8%) on the 1GHz model if I don't custom configure without the drive from Apple.

    So A) I can buy it from Apple for $2599 (w/o DVDR) and pay 8% tax which is $2806.92 (free shipping) OR
    I can B) buy it from ClubMac w/o Tax and (free shipping) for $2699

    Hmmm... which makes more sense? I'll wait for the new 15.4" (since dell beat them to the punch) and it should (hopefully) push the prices a little lower on the TiBook. If they cost the same I'll get the new one (compare the Old 1.25GHz Dual G4 Tower to the new one, the new one is significantly cheaper).

    An Aluminum Powerbook (no paint, no flaking)
    A Geforce 4 4200 Go or ATI Radeon 9000 (or better)
    15"+ wide aspect ratio screen (1920x1200)
    I have a 22" cinema display at home and my only complaint is 1600x1024 instead of 1920x1200 like on the 23"
    And an option to get it without a damn DVD burner (I have zero need and by the time I do need one they will be better anyway)

    Oh yeah how about $3300

    I'm actually quite satisfied with the TiBook with the exception of the Airport Reception and the Flaking and easy scratching.

    Once the new 15" book comes out I'll buy the old 1GHz one (DVD Burner be damned).

    Your missing the point that it is a different product. They don't even really resemble each other. I recently switched to the Mac platform and to my surprise and dismay Office v.X is an excellent product. If they can ever get OpenOffice a Quartz GUI I'll switch. Till then it's Office v.X.

    The Mac Business Unit at MS is like a complete different company too, not the status quo.

    The resolution is 1900x1200 which beats the hell out of 1440x900 not to mention Apple crippled their laptops by switching to the OLD Geforce 4 Go 420 which is like the POS Geforce 4 MX. The ATI was better. Now if the new 15" comes with a nVidia Geforce 4 Go 4200 w/128MB I'll buy it. Otherwise I may hold off completely.

    I'm a huge apple fan but some of the most critical things I need to do for my company are either not available for Mac or are exponentially more expensive. BTW I develop software for Linux (2.2+), Windows (win32), Mac (OS X) and Solaris (7+). I have seen the 17" AlBooks at the Apple Store and while impressive it doesn't do much more for me than the old 15.2. If the 15.4 comes available for a decent price (see note) I'll get one as soon as they are available (not the lovely preannouncements Apple has been giving). Otherwise, I'll just get an old TiBook 1GHz for 2550 or so.

    Note: the Dell with 2.4GHz proc, 512MB 1 DIMM, GF4 4200, 60GB, 1920x1200, Extra Battery, ... is still only $3000 compared to apples $3300 for the 17" AlBook.

    Remember the spelling bee girl that couldn't spell without covering her mouth? Lol, the worst disservice people do is homeschooling their children. What happens when they get to college? (assuming the can) or better yet how will they interact with diverse people in a new job setting? I guess you'll have to wait 12-18 years to see. Oh and meeting the freaks at church doesn't come close to actual "real-world" social interaction different religious views, different social norms/mores, learning the way to be at the top of the school hierarchy instead of the bottom, just to name a few.

    If you believe iBooks == dictatorship your a moron and I fear for your childrens future. You should be more afraid of "enemy combatant" status than anything else. Once the government can hold you sans lawyer, access to courts, and access to the charges against you, then you're in a dictatorship. Hopefully our wonderfully intelligent president won't be reelected.

    I would prefer to use a PowerBook (15" when they are available in Aluminium) but I'm stuck using my Dell Inspiron 8100. I have linux on it as well (dual boot) but I cannot get my wi-fi card to work (kernel panic on boot up).

    OS X is so freaking sweeeeet. I guess I could just go Bluetooth through a phone but the unlimited part of the sprint plan is appealing.

    Create a good printer with an open spec on cartridges and make them refillable (sell the refill kits). It's better for consumers, it's better for the environment and the printer company can still make good profits.

    Oh wait, I forgot all businesses (especially HP who makes enormous profit off cartridges) are essentially C. Montgomery Burns. If they could block the sun, they would.

    I shit you not go download the Embedded Visual Tools which has VC++ 3.0 and VB 3.0. I thought I'd do a simple project for the local school (notice my name) and it would be a quick few bucks. What's happened is the scope is all f'd up (I'm covered on this because I submit detail design docs to cover my rear) because the specs keep floating. The other problem is eVB is a PIECE OF SHIT. Say for example you're connecting to a local cdb (access file format for wince/pocketpc). You can Select data, you can delete data, hell you can even insert data. So you'd think you can fucking UPDATE data, oh wait, that's not implemented. I guess if you decide you want to use the Left() function/method/whatever you'd better be ready to create your own because it is a Known Bug that will never be fixed (not to mention the 100's of other f'd up things I've encountered).

    I really wish I would have just done the project in Embedded VC++. It would have taken an extra few hours initially but tracking down the nonimplemented "features" that should be available in eVB has been a nightmare.

    BTW I develop for Solaris (Java), Linux (Java, C/C++), Windows (Everything a client could desire), Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, PocketPC, WinCE and even maintain some POS old DOS code. I don't really hate VB as a lot of people do here on slashdot but it is really only good for quick & dirty internel apps. I would never (again) develop a commerical app in VB.

    If I could have one wish for a development tool this would be it:
    Java + MFC (not MFC but like MFC instead of JFC) + VM OR Native Compiled Code + Completely ANSI Standardized and OSS.

    If my company(s) take off I may devote a few developers to building a cross platform toolkit that meets my needs (choke*pipe-dream*choke).

    However, it was because some dipshit semi-driver (is there any other kind?) jack-knifed and dumped his whole freakin load of logs (logs in Texas for god's sake, wtf?!?!) on I-35. The funny part was it took about 1 1/2 hours before the Highway Patrol had everyone routed around the wreck. So in the wait some kids in a car next to mine notice the Ice Cream Truck about 5 cars up (8 lane highway (w/hov lanes), complete stop) and everyone was getting out and buying ice cream. Quite funny actually. It lightened the mood, where the rules of the road are > drive as fast as your car will go until you catch the car in front of you, then follow at a very unsafe distance to avoid getting cut off (which will happen anyway).

    Actually I think that is my only good memory of living in Dallas. Oh wait, I have a Jenna Jamison story but that's for another time... ah memories...
