There is one keyboard after the model M, which is truly great and modern enough to be usable. The IBM Thinkpad USB Keyboard with integrated trackpoint/touchpad/usb hub and (mostly) silent operation. If you can find it...
if it requires a ballistic chute to not kill anyone if there's a computer or engine failure because this seriously limits the chances of it ever being a certified aircraft by any aviation authority in the world.
Most modern airplanes are flown with Fly by Wire systems that are also computer based. Aviation authorities seem to be happy with them, so, I guess, with the proper redundancy and backup provided, this technology will be welcomed too.
Please tell me one valid reason for having the web browser fullscreen on an 1900px width monitor, that doesn't involve some kind of brain damage.
And while you are at it, please explain why this "new" design needs at least 1040 (!) pixels of width in order to not show a horizontal scrolling bar. Please...
I can't believe that no one blames the online services for requiring and using security questions as a security measure(!). This is such an insecure practice that I'm just baffled from the so much widespread use of it!
Theoretically, security questions could be used as an ADDED security measure and be marginally effective at that, but in most times you can't know exactly how your answer will be used, so the sane response would be something like kashiqewnchkdhsflakjshflvkdsvhpexiojnasdjlna.
I will promptly curse you for requiring me to buy YET ANOTHER compact flash reader.
It seems you will need it, as this proposed CF is PCIe based and not PATA. Also, the article indicates a different form factor from the current CF cards.
It's obvious that lighter and taller women have more sex than the heavier and shorter ones, so it's birth control that we should blame for the study's results!
RedHat seems to have a firm understanding of how the current patent system works. I salute them and hope in the future for them to own a lot of stupid patents like this one.
'=' doesn't indent as such (it might not be deemed 'necessary')...it formats. The difference being that it totally depends on other formatting settings. I forget which...
Well, it indents in the sense of indent(1). It's useful for programming. For simple text you might want to look at gq.
Am I just a vim noob? After doing a search and loving the nice highlighting, is there a way to unhighlight the search term without doing a "/lkasjdfkjdfdf"?
There are far too many "essential" commands in vim, but if I had to pick the two that make the most difference, I would pick * and =. * searches for the word under the cursor and = indents the selected text (most useful for programming).
Sony's stock overall just hit a five year high due to their exceeding sales in other departments.
That's not really correct. Sony's stock raised after the electronics maker forecast a six-fold jump in annual profit on sales of LCD TVs and expectations for smaller losses in its game division.

It took me some time, but I understood what was the cause of the confusion. They have in their mind only dollars, so when they write 0.1, they mean dollars, BUT if the 0.1 dollars gets to be some cents and not a full dollar they think they should write it as 0.1 cents. For example, 0.002 cent/KB actually means to them 0.002 dollars/KB which of course is less than a dollar (it is even less than a cent), so they write it as 0.002 cents. They mean 0.002 dollars/KB cents...
I don't know if I made myself clear, this is really some wacky logic verizon has...
Turns out that PHP broke backwards compatibility again in its last version, which breaks the app, and the previous version against which the app was developped (5.1) has a security hole so that's a no go either.
2 things:
1) Chances are the app you are working with was badly written in the first place
2) You should have used a SUPPORTED distribution, appropriate for this kind of work. If for example you had used Redhat Enterprise Linux then redhat would have backported the patch for the security bug to your version and you would have a secure fully patched system without changing any software version.
Your company made some wrong choises and pays for them. It would be better if it had hired a qualified sysadmin in the first place and avoided all that... (and yes, he would cost more than a windows sysadmin)
This started me thinking some more. I heard that the Wii was having some major issues with their new controller. Specifically they have issues with sunlight and florescent lights.
I don't know where you 'd read that (and obviously neither do you), but the source of this information is from the "Iwata asks" series of interviews. Let me quote the relevant part:
Ikeda: In the early stages of development we ran into a number of problems that we hadn't anticipated, like the fact that the controller would react to fluorescent light, for example. Creating a mechanism that prevents the controller from responding to fluorescent light and sunlight may sound like low-profile activities, but it still gave us a lot to work on.
It's a problem they had to face early in the development of the remote and obviously they have since overcomed it. Everything else is just fud...
I hope the new version stops crashing every time the planets are not aligned perfectly. I for one have down^Wupgraded to firefox 1.0. What are your experiences with 1.5? Is it better or worse than 1.0?
Nintendo has a rumbling implementation as well, yet they never got sued. Only a part of it was that Immersion got their patent a year or so after Nintendo made their implementation.. the other piece is that Nintendo's works much differently than what Immersion patented.
And the final piece is that Immersion is owned in part by Nintendo;)
This new contest requires a tutorial with the submissions, so get out your favorite text editor and show us all of the beautiful things you can make your GIMP do.
As for the suppying the source, I never understood why people belive that they need to have a link available to the source online to comply with the GPL. Hell if a company wanted to they could supply you the source in the form of a print out (or alphabit soup) and they would comply with the terms of the GPL license.
No, they wouldn't comply with the GPL. GPL explicity requests that source code must be supplied in the form used to make the binaries and all build scripts or other things used, must be also supplied. For example, if you distribute an rpm you must provide the scr.rpm.
"Then why is it that it took so long to certify Linux? Why did it take 4 years to certify Windows 2000? Why is'nt XP certified?"
It's really a _lot_ of paperwork and I'm sure that MS got that cert everywhere it really matters. As for linux, seeing distros get that cert means that they have certain hopes to see linux in some places that require EAL4. Nothing more.
"I'm sure Gates would have like to have been able to say , "Hey, XP's EAL4 certified by the US government" when asked about MS's commitment to security and stability recently."
I'm sure Bill can say better and lower priced nonsense than that.

Battery life. Never ending battery life.

...really? 0.90718474? Did you EVER take a science class? You can't add all that extra precision because it doesn't exist in the original measure.
Well, what if the original measure was 2.00000000 pounds? I guess that would make a difference for you.

Thanks! I did :help object-select and now I feel enlightened!
cit (correct inner tag!!!)
:)
ie) a perl string like so $mystring="This is my long strong"
Can be changed by moving the cursor just after the first " and entering c/"
Try ct" (correct till ") - it is easier and more straight forward. Also of use is cf" (correct forward "). The last one also deletes the ".

He described the victim as 'a nice lady' and that 'she was telling me about her family and her three kids and how she was doing it for her kids.'"
I usually hate frivolous lawsuits...but I think the family has a pretty strong and valid case in this instance.
What are the chances this woman knew about the danger and did it anyway, just so her family would get some money from a lawsuit?
When will companies start saying how many units were sold, instead of shipped? We are not really interested in their plants manufacturing capability.
