Well, maybe they should spend the money on roads rather than spending it on entertaining criminals. $15k on a study to figure out why prisoners wanted to escape? Thats insane. Of course they want to escape. Having playstations for them wont change them wanting to escape. Just because there MIGHT be a few people wrongfully imprisoned doesnt mean ALL prisoners are wrongfully imprisoned. Besides, if I was wrongfully imprisoned, I would be spending all my time talking to lawyers, not playing on a playstation. Having a playstation wouldnt change the fact that I was wrongfully imprisoned, and, frankly, I wouldnt CARE if I had one. I would be concentrating on getting an appeal.

Criminals dont need entertainment. They need punishment. We need to spend less money on prisons, so that money can go back to law-abiding citizens. Fix the potholes on the roads. Buy new computers for the elementary schools. Hell, give a few tax refunds. Dont buy playstations for murderers and rapists. Why not spend all the money you save on playstations to better train investigators so there is not as high a chance of wrongful conviction?

Prisoners should be provided with food, shelter, clothing, exercise, and education. They dont need video games. If you are wrongfully imprisoned, thats your problem. I had a problem with the "techs" at Best Buy a few years ago. I was in 6th grade, and didnt know much about computers at the time. Me and my dad decided to add a new hard drive, upgrade the ram, and put in a 56k modem (upgrade from 14.4) in our family computer, an HP Pavilion pentium 100 system. Anyway, we started with the RAM and hard drive, figuring once we got htat working we would tackle the modem. We followed directions exactly, got everything hooked up, booted the computer, it detected the RAM, but windows refused to load. We worked on it for hours, never got it working. So, my dad decides to take it to Best Buy. A day later, my dad calls to check up on the computer. The tech says something along the lines of "yeah they are soldering it up back there now." My dad starts yelling at them "your SOLDERING on my HARD DRIVE???" Apparently they pulled the drives out, and managed to knock some component off the drive putting them back int. He tells them to stop doing anything, hes taking it to someone who knows what they are doing. We drive down to the store, to pick up the computer. The tech is protesting, saying he knows a lot about computers because he is a "beta tester for microsoft." My dad took the computer back, took it to a local computer shop that does repairs and stuff. The guy there fired it up, said "you have a virus" ran a virus scan, wiped out the virus, and sent us home. Took him all of 10 minutes.

  23. Re:The Best Coffee is Fresh Coffee on Tampering with Taste Buds for Better Coffee? · · Score: 3, Informative

Yeah, fresh rosted beans are VERY important, and never get ground. Grind it yourself, preferably in a burr type grinder (which has little thingies in it like the balls in the old IBM type-ball typewriters) rather than one that has a little blade that spins.

Since roasted beans give off a lot of carbon dioxide, you want to wait 24 hours after they are roasted before grinding and brewing them. If you don't, the coffee will taste odd. However, make sure you use up all the coffee within a week. After a week it starts getting really stale.

Don't freeze coffee. A lot of people do, but there is no reason to. Coffee that has sat on a counter for two weeks is better than coffee that has been in the freezer for a day. When you take the coffee out, condensation forms, and it gets nasty. Don't freeze it, buy less of it.

  24. Re:Good idea on Tampering with Taste Buds for Better Coffee? · · Score: 3, Informative

No. Do NOT boil coffee. The ideal temperature for brewing coffee is just short of boiling, like 98C or so. If you could keep it at exactly that temperature, that would be best. But, if you do not posess the means to keep water at exactly 98C, simply boil the water, let it sit for like 15-30 seconds, and mix in the grounds.

If you are going to add the grounds directly to the water, it is best to grind them fairly coarse, so you will be able to filter them well, and control the brewing better. The finer the grind, the more sensitive it is to the time it is brewed for. Espresso can be finely ground because it is only being brewed for a few seconds. If you underbrew the coffee, by grinding TOO coarse, water too cold, or not brewing long enough, the coffee will be weak and watery. If you overbrew the coffee, by grinding too fine, water too hot, or brewing too long, it will be bitter. You have to experiment to find the ideal time. Also, if the water is too hot, it will cook the coffee, and ruin the flavour.

BTW, auto drip isn't that bad if you know what you are doing. Percolation is BY FAR the worst method. Auto drip is qute consistent, and easy. If you do it right you can get great coffee. Its not the best method, but it is OK. Auto drip makers with a hot plate should be avoided. If the coffee remains on the hot plate, it will get bitter very quickly. The best ones have a thermal carafe, which keeps the coffee hot by insulation. They work quite well.

BY FAR the best thing you can do for coffee is to buy good beans, and grind them yourself. Get a burr grinder, which has two thingies that look like the balls from those IBM ball typewriter thingies, rather than one that has the little spinning blade. It will grind the coffee much more evenly, and not heat it up as much.

IIRC, "Latte" is just a sort of shortened term. What you want is "Cafe Latte." "Coffee [with] milk." "Latte" means "milk." Not crazy at all. Cafe americano is espresso mixed with hot water iirc. Americans generally don't like strong coffee.
