So by your logic, the sales department makes 100% of the revenue, and the people who enable the people who produce the product 0%?

Actually, on the fundamental level, this is exactly true. Production only generates cost; cost for raw materials, cost for utilities, cost for labor, cost for storage and warehousing, cost for shipping, etc, etc. If the life cycle of a product ended with the production line, there would be no recuperation of these costs. This is where Marketing comes in...but even then, that's another department that only produces cost. Here, it's cost for labeling, cost for advertising... It's not until the product is actually sold that revenue is generated, and this revenue is what covers all the costs; and provided that the overall revenue is above the overall cost is how a business can determine if a product is actually worth continuing.

I know this, this is a basic understanding of business. I do not have any business or accounting training aside from a class in Macroeconomics, a class in accounting, and 7 years combined experience on the sales floor of a KB Toy Works and a RadioShack.

Granted, M$ takes control of Yahoo, it's probably not going to be #1 for much longer (I know I'd be dropping my Yahoo mail accounts and probably joining my wife on Gmail), but since when do investors care what's going to happen, they want immediate returns on investment. In my household we have been majority Windows Users (read MS's Bitches). I personally have tinkered with various distros of Linux over the past 8 years, starting with a bitter failure in Mandrake, then moving to Red Hat 6.0, which was much more pleasant in comparison...but still just a tinker toy of an OS for me. I then started to get more serious when I found Debian and lastly found that Gentoo was a pleasure to configure into a server. However, it was still unable to move me away from my reliance to MS as a workstation because Windows just worked with minimal effort for me. Aside from the occasional and annoying BSOD's, I didn't tend to have to worry about my computer getting hosed by placing a command in the wrong place...just so long as I did a re-install every 6 months at minimum.

Now in the last move I seem to have misplaced my Warezed copy of XP that worked...and I'm really not in the mood to spend 200 bucks to buy another copy and be legal for once, so I started looking into open source more heavily. I tried downloading a fresh copy of Gentoo's LiveCD over my work connection, but for some reason, I couldn't get it to work on my system like it had on the Tinkertoy computer that I had used before. I no longer had broadband internet so using portage for the install wasn't viable for me like it was when I tried it the first time.

Then, I found Ubuntu. I was leery of it at first...simply because the name sounded funny and everything looked like this ugly orange color. Of course Gentoo wasn't much better...except it had a nice purple graphical scheme that was easy on the eyes. But, I bit the bullet and decided to try it. That's when I found that it just works out of the LiveCD. My wife particularly enjoyed the fact that she could play the games it had at the same time it was installing on the system. This was after doing many different Windows Installs for 2 days prior trying to figure out which way was going to be the best, easiest, and most productive route to go(Win98, W2K Pro, and an eval of Win2k3 Server, OS2 Warp, and a few other obscure stuff that she had CD's lying around for). She had started using the tactic of Start the install...then run like hell to do something else and whatever she did..it was not watching the windows installer force feed her the propaganda of how great this new distribution of windows was going to be for her. (Play all the newest and best games on Windows98..yadda yadda yadda...)

So...to summarize ... Winblowz bad, Ubuntu Better. And at least with the ugly orange stuff, I can configure my own desktop to be more of the nice dark brooding purple color of chaos. Now if I can only get the USB modem to operate at better than 14.4. (curses Linuxant under his breath)

If we're not making a wireless sale every 10 tickets, we get chewed on...hard. If we don't sell 4 packs of batteries when the customer only asks for one pack, only needs one pack, and completely refuses 4 packs, we still get chewed on.

Yeah, watch batteries, phone batteries, and parts are the actual focus of our business, but it's not what management thinks is our focus. They don't have but a couple of blurbs on parts in the training "certifications" that we need to take after being hired. The focus in training is on the "Revenue Drivers". That includes your Wireless Phones, your freakin' i*Pods, the 4-4-10 battery "deals", service plans that only extend out from the manufacturer's warranty, and now Radio Shack Credit Cards.

When the sales of these "Revenue Drivers" is down, you'd think that maybe management would step back and see that "Gee...maybe peope don't come here for that. We probably need to change our focus." No, these pompus asses are saying "You dumbass associates, force these people to get a Cell Phone! That's our focus, not the parts crap. We don't care what these people want. We'll tell them what they want, and it's your job to MAKE them THANK us for it."

When hunting you have some target. You have to have a particular target in order to set the PVR.
When browsing particular channels, on the other hand, you trust that certain memorized areas will bear fruit. Sounds like a gatherer's approach to me.

Actually, when hunting you don't have a single target in mind. You just have a single category. Such as when "Bear Hunting" you're setting your eyes on a specific species but not necessarily a specific breed (Could wind up with a Black Bear, Grizzly, or Brown Bear...just an i.e.). When I turn on the TV for channel surfing, I'll shoot for a category, such as "News". With "Bear Hunting," using experience, I know where the bear are going to tend to gather for food, shelter, etc. Likewise, I know that CNN, MSNBC, different local stations, etc all have news, some 24 hours a day, some at specific times... Based on the time of day and channel location I may be able to get a specific "breed" of news. So surfing between the news chanels if one hops over to a subject that I like, I have the target. If the subject turns to something I couldn't care less about, I resume the "hunt" for more of the subjects that intrest me.

Using the DVR Method, however, is more like running a farm. You can schedule all your programs to record for the week, like timing the seeds to all bear fruit at the same general time for harvest. Then on the weekend (or any other day you have off) you can 'harvest and gather' the shows you recorded during the week. With this method, you know exactly which show you are getting. Like you'd be getting the same Red Delicious Apples you planted and not Granny Smiths.

I'm not sure if this'll clarify the analogy for you any, or if there was realy any point in me breaking it down this way, but I'm just bored as hell at work waiting for a customer, and had no better things to do. Sad, Isn't it.

Any other protector will give the exact same results as the Monster one. Monster is not a cable company, it is a marketing company.

Unfortunatly, we proved this wrong. I refrained from giving details in my original post for length, so here I give what we did to prove that surge protector put out by monster is substantially better.

First, we had to hook up the unit to the outlet (standard plugs) and calibrate the meter to read 100% straight from the outlet. At this point, the audible speaker was also puting out the RF noise that was on the power line. Then we have 30 seconds to plug the surge protector into the same outlet before the unit turns itself off and looses the calibration setting. Plugging in the unit to the Monster surge protector gave a fluctuating reading between 5% to 10% of the interference getting through, and the audible speaker was rather quiet by comparison.

Then we did something we weren't supposed to do. We pluged in the highest end RadioShack brand surge protector we had. The RadioShack brand let through 95% to 110% of the noise that was on the line.

In my original post, I stated that Corporate ordered us not to use the demo on anything but 'Monster'. This was meant to say RadioShack Corporate, who makes more money off of us selling the RadioShack brand stuff than the 'Monster' Cable. Monster doesn't realy care. Doing this demo with a RadioShack protector clearly does not bode well for the profits of RadioShack. Do I care about RadioShack or 'Monster'? No. I just care about what I have seen. From what I've seen, Monster is worth it...if you HAVE to have the greatest best stuff and NEED to be better than the Joneses.

To be blatantly honest, only get monster cables if you want to keep up with the Joneses, or if you are having trouble getting a clear picture in your house and the cable company doesn't help much in what they can do by replacing the wires and line taps feeding your home (and if this is the case, Keep the reciepts, because it may or may not work even then, could wind up needing all your in-home cables replaced through the walls). They're worth the money for all the filtering that goes into them...but question is are they going to be that much better on your system. If you already have a super clear picture on your existing setup...they're probably not going to help much. If the picture isn't too clear currently, or you see room for improvent, and you know that it's not the cables in your walls or leading into your house...try the monster cables and see if you notice a difference.

I have to say a resounding YES! They are most certainly better than most other brands of cables. To be honest, I haven't seen other cables perform as well.

If you have doubts, your local RadioShack should have an RF Noise Demo sent to them by Monster Cable. Granted, this demo is designed to display the insulation on the 'Monster' surge protectors only, but they use the same insulating technology on their A/V Cables as well.

RadioShack is supposed to use the demo on 'Monster' equipment only, however, I would suggest demanding to see the demo used on a non-Monster surge protector as well. This way you can hear the difference between two types of protectors and not just the difference between the wall plug and the protected plug.

As a warning: Depending on the managment of a particular store, you may or may not be able to get the demo used on any other brand of surge protector. We are ordered by Corporate to not use the demo on ANY other brand of protector besides 'Monster'. I also know that not all the stores recieved the demo, but I do not know which ones did and which ones didn't so you may have to do some searching in your area.
