  1. Is manned flight really necessary ? on Goodbye, Galileo · · Score: 1

Results like these pose once more the question if manned flights ( with the risk of human life loss ) are really -necessary- at this point in time, or if remote controls ( and "remote presence" ) technologies are enough to conduct the operations and experiments...

It sounds more and more like extortion to me and i think they should be stopped until the matter is settled on court.

That sounds a bit a Vernesque view of exploration... i think millionares are better at funding exploration than doing it themselves, somehow i dont see bill gates first human on Mars, if anything because he would give a false impression of what humans look like to eventual intelligent life forms he may step on. Will be martians cheaper to hire than indians ? Only time will tell.

Jurassic park was cool but most of people is running windows explorer...

Many comments were well informed, but the opinion i mande of the space shuttle is that it's a whole design that didnt put security and escape options as a priority in the design from day 1. Maybe it's just an old design, and all that, but i think that NASA now should seriously think about coming out with something radically new, should it take 10 years to develop. Space research is important but i guess that given the situation on earth nobody is in a real hurry, at this point.
