Here at Sonoma State University (www.sonoma.edu) they started out the year by turning all the ethernet jacks off right from the get-go. In out "Welcom" package they included a CD with all the patches for us to patch the computers in our dorm. After this was completed we had to call IT and wait around for them to get the jack number, verify that either you weren't running Windows or if you were that the patch was properly installed. Then and ONLY then would they activate the jack. This caused major problems, it took 2 days for me to get my connection up and running, and I was running Mac OSX! It was a royal pain in the ass for both students and the IT workers who had to run around to all the Residence Halls. I guess it was pretty effective, but when someone reformates and reinstalls windows 95% of them will forget to install the latest patch.

  12. Return Reciept on SMS Messaging Unreliable · · Score: 0

The return reciept is your best friend when you try to send SMS in the US. I have learned to love this feature, to make sure that all my recipients always recieve their messages right after I send them. I can also tell wether or not they are at home, because a lot of my friends dont get reception at home, so no reciept = no reception, or the unlikely chance that their phone is off. Hope this helps a few people.

Right now I have found that if you want the best sounding music while not having huge files you should be using either the LAME codec and encoding at 192k Full Stereo, not Joint-Stereo. Or if your on windows you can use Fraunhoffer or LAME and encode at 192k Full Stereo as well. Also don't assume that just because you encode something at 192k its going to sound awesome. It totally depends on the encoder you are using. If you use Xing or some crap like that well expect to find artifacts and have some hissing. But with LAME and Fraunhoffer you should find the best results.
