" like saying that the game is ready in a month when in fact it needs so much work they can't get it out in a fucking year."
So basically your just pissed off that you don't have a new computer game to play and you are going to have to spend your summer vacation in some other way?
Why doesn't nvidia and/or ATI just design a dual GPU video card with 1GB of memory running on a single 16x pci express slot? The bandwidth should be enough in that slot right?
For the simple reason being that nvidia's solution is the solution by the video card creator. Where Alienware's solution is a solution by a PC maker. One would think that the nvidia solution would be much faster and more cost efficient than the alienware solution.
A lot of folks are doing this. Waiting for Doom 3 (or HL2) and then buying a new machine. Each month they don't announce a release date gives you more time to save and gives prices more time to drop further.
I've got my new machine all spec'd out. Just waiting for doom 3 and HL2 to hit the shelves.
This has nothing to do with the game industry. It only concerns those kiddies who like to overclock their processors to get higher benchmark numbers than someone else. That group of people is so small is that there won't be any impact.
Except that everthing that exists thats wrong with going from a windows box to using linux will still exist. No matter what microsoft does to compatibility to older software.
Don't kid yourself in believing it will do ANYTHING for linux.
You are making a HUGE assumption that just because there is an XBox2 out in the wild that people won't still be buying games for the old xbox. A lot of folks wait a year or 2 or more before getting the next gen consoles and continue to buy games for the old versions as long as they are available.
Usually when this topic comes up before a new console is released everyone answers a definite yes. We need backward compatibility. But when the console actually comes out everyone buys and plays the new games and rarely goes back to the old ones. Its the way of the console.
Its one of those topics that the media AND players blow so out or proportion and then never admit they were wrong later on when the console is released.
I would like to see an antivirus application more integrated into the windows OS. Norton is a buggy and bloated piece of junk, and mcafee isn't much better. I personally use AVG cause its free but would love an antivirus package that is silently integrated into the OS and outlook right out of the box. XP comes with a firewall built in, why not antivirus as well?
The cable guy isn't there to give you a quality connection. They are just there to connect you to the cable network. Anything else and you are on your own.
I don't even let them touch my stuff. When I moved I took my boxes with me and had them hooked up and ready to go when they got there. All they had to do was turn it on. Before I had my boxes I bought svideo cables for them and had them sitting there ready. So the cable guy just had to plug the box into the wall and I did everything else.
The toshiba LCOS tv supported 1080p. They don't make them anymore cause LCOS has problems but it did exist and you can probably still buy one if you really want to from somewhere. I know there are some others also.
I've heard this complaint before but still can't figure out what people are doing to their discs. I have over 250 titles and not one of them has a scratch or finger print. It doesn't take a lot of effort to be careful with the disc.
Yeah they said the same thing about VHS when it came out. To most consumers VHS is "great enough".
Then laser discs came out. They were good but too expensive. Then DVD came out and everyone has been wowed. The current media is good enough, that is until a new one that has higher quality comes out and people get to use it. Then that one becomes "great enough" until the next one. So on and so on.
"Figure out a way to make the HD-DVD format both backward AND forward compatible."
Will NEVER happen. Are you new on this planet? Why would Sony (as an example) release a dvd player now for say $200 that plays current dvd's and is guaranteed to play future formats as well? They WANT the customer to go back and buy a new box every 5-10 years.
"Menus with 24-bit real-time 3D generated graphic "overlays" (think X-Box game menus), interactive viewing experiences (think infinifilm on steroids), interactive timelines, interactive maps, documentary level behind the scenes, "extras" presented in context with the show while you are re-watching it, searchable script-to-screen."
Yuck. You've been sucked into the PR's web. I can't stand detailed menu systems on dvd's now. Most of the time I just want to play the movie. If I want the special features I don't need to sit there for 15-20 seconds while the menu screen rotates and zooms around my tv screen. Just give me the contents of the disc and let me get on my way. A lot of the extra's these days are just filler. It was great when it first started. A new disc would come out with something everyone hasn't seen yet. A new way of showing extra movie "stuff". Now everyone is doing it. Studios are rereleasing dvd's with different titles but same content to try and trick people into double dipping. I'm to the point now where I want it to go back to movie only mode.
I've had a dvd player since early '99. I've seen the beginning, and its at its height right now. I look forward to blueray hidef discs. All I want (and probably millions like me). Is higher capacity discs to hold 720p, 1080i or even 1080p versions of movies at current dvd prices (ok maybe a little more expensive at first).
DVD players didn't have separate lasers for dvd and cd's because of compatibility. They had separate lasers because it was proven that to have a laser designed for cd play separate gave better quality sound than using the same laser just tweaked for playback of the 2 media types.
My entire yahoo account is a disposable address. Starts getting filled up switch to one of the other accounts that I have on yahoo or hotmail. No need to link, just stop checking. I could care less if I use up yahoo email space.
Yeah I noticed that too. Sometimes it loads. Sometimes the site times out. Are there really that much more people hitting their yahoo accounts just cause they have more space now?
If I had the money to buy all this I'd hop on a plane and go make the deal in person. Very what I was getting them hand deliver the money when the goods were picked up. No way would I trust this person to ship it. But then again, people are stupid.
It would be the death of them. Everyone I know has an AOLIM account. They have the majority of users in the IM area. If they would start charging for normal usage the would see a mass exodus of users moving to yahoo or msn messenger. It'll never happen.
And then the judge asks for the key. You don't provide it you go to jail and sit there until you give it up. All it buys you is time. And during that time you get to become close friends with your cellmate and your equipment is sitting in a storage area.
Uhhh...it is JUST a game. 9 out of 10 times the game will work with no problems right out of the box. Occassionally a patch will be released before the game hits the stores. No big deal there either. They will fix this (even though its not THAT big of a bug).
But since you want to get all dramatic about it maybe you deserve an oscar?
Anyone that upgrades their computer for a particular game BEFORE the game is actually on the shelves is an idiot.
Why would ATI be pissed? They sold a ton of cards they could care less what they are used for as long as they sell their product.

Oh darn. Sucks to be you.

Uhhh, why don't you just tell AT&T to put you on their don't call list. They have to do this and it will stop the calls.
Except the RIAA was told by the courts that it couldn't just dump crap onto the schools.

And 20 years ago what you thought was cool, the then 30 or so year olds said the exact same thing about the culture of the day.

Yes you can and it was in the article if you bothered to read it.
