Maybe they wouldn't have such a huge problem with people stealing their OS's and Office software if they wouldn't charge $300 on up for normal people to buy it. What small family can afford to spend $300 per license so they can use Word to write their kids term papers??? How about dropping the price to $99 for Office Suite and $99 for the OS or maybe even $50 for the OS. Or unbundle the office suit so people can just spend $45-$50 on word and excel. Afterall thats the only thing people really use anyways. Their markup is so large to start with they would probably still be making a profit, maybe more so because people would be more willing to spend money to buy it instead of just stealing it.

I don't know any builder these days that isn't running cat5 in the walls. My house has cat5e going to every room. The phone system is run off the cat5e also. So it easy to swap phone jacks into network jacks, just pull it out of the phone switch and plug it into the router. They also will be running fiber into all the houses. They are slowly working their way through the neighborhoods so currently I just have an orange tube sticking out of my brick but eventually that'll be the fiber coming from the curb. But the internet they are going to provide is going to suck. They just don't have enough bandwidth coming into the neighborhoods to give everyone the 10mbit or 100mbit (depending upon what you want) that they advertise.

I plan on getting one but I'm gonna wait a bit. I'll mainly use it for when I travel. Also by waiting maybe by the time I get around to getting one they'll have a black one out in the US.

They will also be offering cable over the fiber but it doesn't have the technologies that timewarner does here. My whole house is wired with cat5e cable which is great and they have fiber going right up to the house, but until the big pipe at the main station is upgraded a whole lot its not worth it.
