get into bands that have an open taping policy....get involved in trading shows/live concert downloads and whatnot...
been doing this for years now and have some really really kick ass music, from a lot of kick ass bands....and all it cost me was either a ticket to a concert (which was worth it for the memories alone) and the cost of a blank cd (or 2 or 3)
And if they band sucks live - do you really want to listen to them anyway?
After reading your post, all I can hear in my head is Lil' John saying "Yeah!"
I haven't had any crash problems really with Firefox.8. Only time it crashes is if I have a page loaded for a few days in a browser window and then try opening a new one. And that's few and far between. I've never had it take down the whole OS. Surprisingly....everday/everyuse machine: WinXP Pro......have about a 23 day uptime or so (Not braggable...but not made for constant everyday use)
Erm... what's the use of a 100mbit/sec connection with a mobile phone.
Mobile phones can barely hold 100mbits at all, let alone be able to write 100mbits/sec to its hard drive (or SIM card, whatever it uses)
how about when you hook it up to a laptop for internet access?
I think for that price I'll buy a decent used laptop, get a larger screen, dvd playback, cd-rw, networking/internet access, and a whole lot more functionability in general.
ipod killer? i think not....this idea though does sound dead at the door.

Support artists by going to see them in concert.
if they allow recording at the concert, do it.

it's the people getting into the industry b/c they see money, but at the same time - don't really like what they do.
it's what's popuar right now, so of course you are going to have a lot of people doing it work they don't enjoy.
when the next popular field comes along, that will also be flooded with miserable employees.
wash. rinse. repeat.
