I'm thinking that you in fact have a very low understanding of Iranian politics. Otherwise you would know that the Iranian President only wields so much of the power. The real seat of power rests with the Supreme Leader, for now this is Ayatollah Khamenei. Mousavi isn't a moderate as far as such terms may apply but he is way closer to the center than Ahmadinejad. The likely successor of Ayatollah Khamenei, if the revolution succeeds, would be Ayatollah Montazeri. Who is pro-Democracy, pro-Human Rights and one of the biggest proponents of women and civil rights for ALL Iranians, including much-maligned minorities like the Baha'is. In fact he goes further than the protections afforded to them under Sharia. He would be the one calling the shots.

Well the problem with calculating the averages should honestly be enough to get this tossed. The defense can put up an exhibit with a set of numbers using the flawed methodology which shows a person to be over the limit. Then call an expert witness with a math degree, or an accountant for that matter. Show that the average when calculated normally is below the the legal limit. Even better is if you can show that the machine has calculated an average that falls below the legal limit but should have been above. That would show the device to be a public safety hazard for clearing persons who are actually impaired.

I am sure somebody will respond to that idea with "well they would just use local zombies then". Yes, but dealing with hostile intent on your own soil is much easier to deal with than trying to shut down a connection on foreign soil. Can anyone come up with a reason that doing this on and government network/resource shouldn't be a standard practice? Well considering the number of litigious parents these days is it really surprising that a school would opt to have the authorities handle the situation? The girl was being disruptive and refusing to stop texting. If the teacher were to attempt to physically remove the student that surely would have ended poorly. So when the school security person confronts the student, the student denies everything and hides the phone in her pants. The school staff clearly cannot have her drop her pants. So the situation becomes a "he said she said" type situation. Once again contacting the authorities seems reasonable to me at that point. If she were simply suspended we would be reading about how her parents are complaining to the school Board about the teacher and other staff and how they violated their child's rights, then come the lawyers. As a taxpayer, consider the time and your tax money wasted that would be wasted defending against that. Money that is needed to buy books, fund after school activities, or pay the salaries of the people who educate our kids. Does it really sound so unreasonable at that point?

All of the new Adobe CS4 collection of applications "phone home" now and here is why.

The license allows two installs of an application, based on concurrent use, for example Photoshop could be installed on your workstation and on your laptop with the understanding that you are only using one of them at a time. This is very common. Most applications simply force a registration of the serial number and only allow X number of activations, i.e. Microsoft Office. What Adobe does is check how many machines have that serial installed on it and if you attempt to activate a third it will tell you that you have exceeded the number allowed and that you must deactivate one of the other installs. The software makes it easy to deactivate itself so you can reinstall elsewhere. The silly part is that Adobe sets an entry in your hosts file pointing to activation.adobe.com or something close to that.

If you install the software the first time with your computer disconnected from the internet and change that host file entry to 127.0.0.1 and then reconnect to the internet it will not be able to call home and will assume it is installed on a machine that is not connected to the internet.
