What's next, buy a used Ford and pay Ford to transfer the license for the inboard computer's OS or face piracy charges if you continue to drive?"
What's keeping Ford or any other car maker from doing that? Nothing. Why don't they toss in a clause stating that you can't say anything negative about them to boot? Maybe they'll require you to only buy your parts and sell your car through their chain of dealerships.
The vast majority of corporations out there have only one myopic goal in mind: Make More Money. They will pollute any river, strip any forest, injure or kill any worker or customer to further their mission. Basicly corporations are thinking "Fuck everyone and the magic hand of Adam Smith will save us". Unless better laws are created to protect the individual's rights in contracts, corporations will continue to screw any one they want.
I know,"Don't like the contact? Don't sign it." What happens when every new car dealer starts this or all the supermarkets require you use their "customer card" to buy from them. The RIAA would like to ban used CD sales. An EULA on all CDs would fix their problem nicely. The Magnuson-Moss Act needs to be revised to allow owner's rights to be transferred to subsequent owners and new laws are needed to heavily restrict conditions manufacturers place on goods during the sale. Of course this will never happen with all the money whores in Congress.
Can some say when the erosion of our rights will stop? I can't.
Welcome to Amerika.

Really. I recently purchased the parts you need on eBay. Please check in to the this hotel
in Belmont and wait for further instructions. The Front Desk staff are quite helpful and will assist you in getting a room. Be forewarded that they have a 30 day minimum stay but you can still pack lightly. I don't accept Galactic Credits but do accept payments via PayPal (hope that helps). Also, when you check in pretend you have a gun.
I'm a time traveler stuck here in 2003. Upon arriving here my dimensional warp generator stopped working. [...] I am going to need a new [...] rechargeable AMD wrist watch model [...]
Glad to see AMD is still going in the future. I need to call my broker and buy some shares.
With all the troubles the Archdiocese of Boston has had with lawsuits it doesn't surprise me that BC refused the subpoenas. It was more of a "knee jerk" reaction.
If the French are working so hard to keep their language pure, why did they deicde to use a word a French-Speaking Canadian came up with?
Thousands of Québécois and Français are lining up to offer their two cents on your comment. Coming up next: Should Canada adopt the US dollar as the country's offical currency?
Something that could work better and cheaper for a small company, say under a 100 seats, that wants to go GNU/Linux on the desktop but can't entirely leave MS Windows behind might be MS Terminal Services. There's an excellent GNU/Linux GPL'd RDP client over a rdesktop.org.
Don't get me wrong, I hate MS and Billy Boy (I'd burn him like a witch if I wasn't afraid of the fumes) but for the cost of one hot server, a copy of MS Server and ~$80 per seat you could give those 100 seats access to Windows for years while moving the users to greener pastures.
Yes, I know it was a joke, but the whole argument of finding ways arround buying an Apple machine so people can run OSX irks me in some strange manner.
And it should irk you. Apple does charge a lot for their hardware (and much more for replacement parts) but the income earned from these sales will indirectly* lower the cost of software like OS X and stuff like iMovie (which rocks), iTunes, iPhoto, Mail.app, Rendezvous/ZeroConf, etc. I guess you could think of it as pirating hardware and increasing the cost [of Mac OS X et al] to your fellow users.
This is also why I now use GNU/Linux and x86 hardware for my main machines. I love Mac OS but refuse to be held to Apple's rules. With that said I have an eMac 700 (got it basicly for free) and it does see a lot of use, mostly with iMovie, EV and EV:Nova. =)
One might successly argue that if you bought a copy of Mac OS X then you won't be hurting Apple in a "moral" sense, but I don't know. The idea of a quad G5 for $3500, something Apple would charge atleast $2k more for, is tempting.
You brought up some good points. Thanks.
* I know this is a false arguement but that's for a later posting.
About time someone brought that up. From MoL's
FAQ:
Does MOL run on non-Apple hardware?
It does. MOL runs for instance on the Pegasos board, the Teron board and on AmigaOne
hardware. In short, MOL
should run on any PowerPC hardware (with the except of 601-based
systems). However, the EULA of MacOS prohibits its usage on non-Apple
hardware (it is of course perfectly legal to use MOL to boot a second
Linux though).
Job's is going to freak when he figures this out. =)

The SSN and CC# number comment was meant as a joke. You know, Joe Luser enters the contest (or is told he was automaticly entered), gets an IM from a scammer telling him "just this information please and we'll send you the money". Later he realizes all he got was the wrong end of a plunger.

Thank you for submitting your idea. We found it interesting but currently have a system in place that accomplishes the similar goal. Our solution involves working with an in service "vectordeliverysystem" that quickly removes any possible threat from our skies. Our flight "escort" service have even been warmly received by the flying public. Clearly our system has cost advantages over yours.
Oh that's smart (NOT)... encourage the lunatic fringe to send the guy offensive emails so that the stories Microsoft told him about Linux users being a bunch of childish fools gains credibility.
Although I didn't "encourage" the sending of offensive email I should've worded my intentions better. I want people to send well crafted messages giving their informed opinion about how people who work with M$ usually get burnt in the end. Also how a company like his not only could save money by using OSS but could make money off of it (CD duplication).
I agree that the last thing OSS needs is a bunch of trolls emailing Mr. Hill goatcx links and messages that only contain "U SUX". Hopefully this guy will get more emails like I mentioned.
Let's act like grown-ups here and realise that although the company's attitude may be somewhat lacking, they are within their legal right to do what they're doing whether others like it or not.
No one ever mentioned legality here. Assuming there are no antitrust issues then they have the right to refuse the job. We also have rights. We can email him complaining about his company's actions. We can boycott his company and products. We can also tell others of this issue, ask them to responsibly contact the company, complain and boycott.
I guess what I'm saying is "be nice, tell this company they're wrong and why."
As every GNU/Linux fan on the planet is saying "Can you hear me now?" BTW, in case they take down or change their contacts
page here is Google's cache.

I wonder if they're accepting pay phone calls (since they incure an automatic $0.35 charge per call)?

Maybe this and this would help.
Thanks. I'm downloading three copies of everything as we speak (just to make sure I get a clean copy that isn't corrupted like SCO's management).
Agreed. I was saying that $300 was too much for me too pay. I'm sure they got a nice discount.
According to their web site the copy of VMware included in SuSE Personal and Professional is a time limited demo and not the full version.
I like the idea of VMware but not for $300 a shot. $100 per copy is more like it.

Are they going to install the VMware Workstation on all their machines, run VMware GSX or VMware ESX? Anyone know what the cost per seat is?
