Ok i really hoped that DOOM would be #1 and then i clicked the link and there.. there.. there is DOOM! Excellent. Everyone knows this game or at least has heard sth. about it and back in the days everyone played it. So congratulations on a wise choice.
But i noticed sth. else: Why is Diablo f.e. #6 and Legend of Zelda only #10. Zelda is probably the best game series EVER and everyone now in his twenties should get a fuzzy feeling when he looks back. I think they made the mistake to compare the games with their actual play/fun value. They should have compared them on the play/fun value they had while they came out. And here you can clearly see that Zelda was far more popular and fun then Diablo was (and Zelda is probably even more fun today - this can be argued).
it took me 5 minutes to get on there. take some load off their shoulders and read it here instead:
madmax @ 2001/07/11 21.16 irc.ins.net.uk / dianora
Just incase the rumours are true and somebody's attacked all the servers dianora opers on, can I point out that Diane hasnt been opered on irc.ins.net.uk for about a week... If you're going to DOS servers because you dont like their opers, at least/stats o first;P
hardy @ 2001/07/11 16.05 ircd.solidstreaming.net / irc.solidstreaming.net
SolidStreaming's irc client and hub servers have been null routed at the moment due to a massive core router flood. Currently, there is no ETA for return.
madmax @ 2001/07/11 12.44 irc.ins.net.uk / irc.hub.uk
C&W INS has been under such a large attack that they have now null routed the irc servers. We do not know at this stage if or when they'll be returning.
madmax @ 2001/07/11 09.31 Efnet's broken
You heard it here first. To those concerned, quit with the attacks, learn not to shit where you sleep. You know who you are.
madmax @ 2001/07/11 09.25 irc.lightning.net
Lightning is disconnecting from efnet for the immediate future due to DOS attacks. They will look at the situation again as soon as possible and hopefully make a comeback.
hardy @ 2001/07/10 21.49 irc.emory.edu
irc.emory.edu has officially de-linked from EFNet as of today due to excessive Denial of Service Attacks for unknown (but most likely IRC-Related) reasons. It's a great loss for the EFNet community as Emory University's IRC server has for 5 years been a very stable, reliable, and open one. We would like to thank the irc.emory.edu staff for their time and dedication to EFNet, you will be missed.
this is no troll nor nor flame nor anything but: you will see the light (debian) soon. i've been using SuSE for a long time now and i can't say that it's a particulary good or bad distro (i liked it) but the first time i used dpkg and apt i was shocked of its effeciency. rpm is a mess against the beauty of debians package system. give it a try.
if you're a man you will just mod your fans from 12V to 7V and you will barely hear them. once you've done it there is no way to go back to 12V. works get more pleasant and productive, A LOT.
yes that is true, but the case is still different here. normally games like doom with explicit violence dont get banned on the first day because the government doesn't ban the game themselves. they don't do anything against this until someone comes to them and says: there's so much violence in this game, it'll have a bad influence on kids yada yada. so they'll play the game and decide about its potential danger then. this usually takes a few weeks. but even then the game doesn't get banned because of the violence (it's put on the index as they call it), you can still sell it to adults (people >18) but you cant advertise it etc.
but with the swastika it's a different thing. it's actually illegal to display the swastiak in public so they wont wait until some concerned mum or dad will come to them, they will ban it right away themselves. and ban means it won't be allowed to sell it AT ALL. i think it's even illegal to own it.
hmm they will have some problems because of the swastika they use everywhere in the game. i know that germany will ban the game on the first day it hits stores (or it probably wont even hit stores). but what about other countries? is that an issue in the US? guess i'll just have to import the game from the UK or the US.
that's actually an excellent idea! cheaters won't feal superior to non-cheaters anymore (in a world of cheaters everyone suddenly becomes a non-cheater). that's like when someone is bugging you to get your attention. he will stop when you ignore him.
i hope someone has the balls to enforce cheating in their next game at least for one day (like an easter egg that gets activated on christmas or whenever). that'd be lot of fun.
I'd love to see JAVA ported to the GBA. 16Mhz RISC power baby. Reading my e-mails through that nifty cellphone plugin. That would be great.
If i wanted JAVA on the PS2 i'd buy a PC. Hell, i have one.
It's funny to see that a while ago nVidia was the underdog and 3dfx were the bad guys. All of a sudden nVidia has turned into the bad guy. Is this some kind of dillema in today computer industry? You cant be big (and make lots of $$$) and good a the same time?
Anyway i hope ATI's TRUFORM will kick their butt a bit. Competition is a good thing.
thats what i've been saying for years. nintendo has the best game developers and makes the best games. period. you can't go wrong with mario, zelda and co.
take a look at wave race for the GC f.e. it is basically the same game it was on the N64. the graphics are better of course but the gameplay is pretty much the same. and why didn't they change it? because it was already pretty close to perfect.
i can play most of nintendo's games over and over and i dont get tired of them (take classics like super mario kart for the SNES f.e.). thats why i love Nintendo. GO BIG N.
True AI is science fiction and will never be possible. You'd need self modifying code that would actually understand the code (not interprete) and could choose how the code will be modified and why. This will never happen. Never. Trust me.
I agree. Subtitles is also my favourite "style" when i watch foreign movies because often it's not only important what they say but HOW. Very subtle things can have a deep meaning.
Unfortunately here everything gets synched, i know that most scandinavian countries f.e. have subtitles. But you can be lucky you dont live in poland because there the whole movie gets "synched" by ONE person. They lower the original sound to about 20% and then the narrator kicks in. Horrible i can tell you.
please don't misunderstand this as anti-american (it is not), but why is the american government so paranoid about the national security? they want to monitor every little fart on the planet - and if they could they surely would. especially if it came out of an communistic ass. and what about the national defense shield (i dont know the exact name) on which they will spend billions and billions and which will most likely prove worthless.
i mean i don't know what is really going on there, probably the european television is putting it in a different light (seriously).
so this is probably just my subjective view but can someone explain me why the american government likes playing Big Brother so much? i dont see any historical reasons or anything - except mabye that terrorist Bin Ladim.
first of all nintendo makes/produces the best games themselves. the fanbase of mario, zelda, etc. is huge (and no, not only among kids). FF and the other games are nothing compared to it. and they do have support from other game developers. and once the others, who turned away from N, will see how great the GameCube really is (and how much people buy it = how much many they can earn by developing games for it) they will change their mind.
And the GameCube does NOT use cartridges. They use custom CDs.
Not to forget that it will be possible to plug the GBA into the GameCube.
that sounds like why-your-intel-processor-is-bad-hype to me. you may want to read this posted on hardocp.com:
Hi Kyle,
You can run benchmarks all day on a Pentium(R) 4 processor with the benchmarks unaffected by the thermal protection circuitry. The key is to have a robust heat sink and thermal solution. With the heat sink setup we designed for Pentium 4 processor systems, I have yet to see thermal protection kick in.
George.
(George = Intel PR George Alfs)
And here is a small excerpt from Kyle's comment:
We have been running an over-volted overclocked Pentium4 with the factory heatsink installed now for some time. It has been running here beside my desk folding proteins for Stanford University now for a solid month and has stayed at 100% CPU utilization. I track its performance and I can assure you that it has not ever slipped into the throttling that Bert speaks about above.
Well we already knew that the Pentium IV is slower than the a lot cheaper Thunderbird. But the average Joe User (90%) doesn't care when he's left with the choice between a DELL Xxxx Thunderbird 1.2GHz and a DELL Xxxxx Pentium IV system. He will just think: "wait a minute... 1500 vs. 1200... 1500 just has to be faster". Especially since the Blue Man Group told him how great the Pentium IV REALLY is. And it will even accelerate the hell out of his 56K modem (ok, that joke is old).
And AMDs Marketing Department isn't really doing anything about it. I wonder why.
Does Progeny support first time installation on ReiserFS (like SuSE does)?
Is there actually any other distro than SuSE that lets you install on ReiserFS?
23 is by far the best movie in the genre, if you have a chance to see it: do it!
I want to add one thing about the mysterious 23: he died on the 23.05.1989 at the age of 23...

i have to agree. i was a PERL-man but have finally switched to python. the syntax is SO clean and it does everything that i want.

hahah lovely. the (not so) funny thing though is that they would probably do it.
