I think the OSS is going to have a lot of problems in the future because I see a time where there is going to be conflicts w/ the OSS and Corporations. The recent article in (CNET?) which quoted an IBM spokesperson as saying that they will defend the OSS community by not using their (IBM's) patent's against the community. But at the end of his comment he did say that IBM could use the patents if it felt it needed to protect itself.
Now, I know that the big players like IBM are helping to spread the popularity but I could easily see it becoming a major problem for the OSS community. I def. don't think anyone could stop OSS but big companies could and will down the road place big roadblocks.

In fact, in present day Baghdad, there was a place called the "House of Wisdom" , (bait-al-hikma) it was a place where scholars from all over the world (literally) came and translated texts as far back as from the Greeks. Then more knowledge was created and expanded upon. This is where a lot of the Muslim contributions to medicine, math, astronomy, and astrology came from.
Here's a fun trivia, we're all pretty much computer people, well the word "Algorithm" is derived from Al-Khwarizmi , an Uzbeck(?) Muslim who did a lot of work in Algebra. And the word Algebra comes from Al-Jabar.

The European Rennianssance, which came about centuries later, began as the work of re-translating all the old texts, (the work of Ptolemy, Aristotle, etc..) from Arabic and Syriac, into Latin (the work of re-translating into Latin was done mainly by European Jews). In fact, if it wasn't for the Muslims and their translation efforts in the 8th century most of the old Greek works would have disappeared from existence.

No one has the right or should have the right to attack these documentaries when there is such "crap" (excuse me) on TV that goes on without a fuss. I haven't been back to a Best Buy ever since buying my laptop and that was quite a long time ago. It's a bit embarrassing but I got suckerd into buying a "service plan" for my laptop, only to realize that it really wasn't worth it.
And like what a lot of you have said, I also find it odd how the clerks always mention , "I don't work on commission." , its obvious they have been trained to say this, as if Best Buy thinks that if their clerks say these 5 magic words customers will think that the clerks are doing everything in their ability to help the buyer.
Thats nuts, the students will mainly be used to Microsoft products. It will only cause more of a head ache for the University. For example, in my college there are plenty of nice, brand new, iMacs (running Mac OS X 10.2) , which IMHO is a very easy to use OS, yet I hear complaints almost daily by students on how much they hate macs and can't use anything but windows simply because they are used to it. Its astonishing but its reality.
And so you say that America should control everything pertaining to nuclear weapons, that it should dictate to the world on what they can and can't do when the only country in the world that ever used nuclear weapons on people is America. America continues to build bombs, incl. new and deadlier planes, rockets, laser systems, etc. but no other country in the world can do the same. Quite arrogant isn't it?
I think its great that North Korea doesn't adhere to America's demands. Not doing so doesn't make them bad. Whose demands does the fucking US adhere to? Just remember it was the bloody imperialists from the West that divided the country as they did with Vietnam,India-Pakistan, and Palestine. Can't say too much good about those situations as well, now can we??
This is not something that writing your congressman can fix. The problem is in the American feeling of superiority that emanates from all walks of life. When America and its citizens realize that they are not the only important people in the world, things WILL change. If this isn't realized soon, then no one should feel sorry for America when shit happens to her.
