To automate all of services would require rewriting ALOT of software which in turn requires years of industry work. For example, I give talks at SpringOne, API World at have had Netflix and other state my work fixes alot of their issues. But they would have to rewrite their existing code... and they invested millions into it. Now regardless that the rewrite might only take a month or so, they want to get their investment back FIRST. So alot of these companies are not going to do that... regardless of the fact that they are LOSING money because they are not automating. Still, at least they are employing people and that makes me happy. To see some of my work on Shared IO state, see my videos from SpringOne on InfoQ (https://www.infoq.com/author/Owen-Rubel)

When created a Python to Swift converter, I responded 'wouldn't it have been easier to do a 'Swift to Groovy' converter??? To which developers replied, well naturally. So how much of Swift was inspired by Groovy? Both come from more high-end language and look and act almost identical.

  15. Re: Supply and demand on Ask Slashdot: Why Are American Tech Workers Paid So Well? · · Score: 1

Ok lets get something straight. We're not being replaced. Some of us are closing our source code, speaking at conferences and not sharing until this all passes. I speak at SpringOne, API World and consult with Amazon, Netflix, Starbucks, Cisco, Apple, VMWare and others. And here is the honest truth: the problems that people had with outsourcing are the SAME problems we have now with in-sourcing. - people lie/exaggerate blatantly on their resumes to get into the country and get a job. This is so prevalent that Indian Universities/Consultantcies actual teach people to do this (https://www.quora.com/Why-do-Indian-consultancies-in-the-US-fake-resumes-and-market-candidates-for-IT-jobs-Why-has-this-practice-continued) - cultural difference can make it difficult to get things accomplished and/or understood - cheap pay does not make up for longer development time and having to rebuild work. EVERY company that I have talked to who has done this has had issues and had to hire local experts to make up for the H1b/insourced work and either redo it or try to get it back on track. This in itself creates additional cost. Its like the lessons of the 90's-2000's are being learned all over again. An honest resume and people who are indoctrinated into your culture are who you want to use; you cannot shake and bake experience and culture.

It's free as in 'beer'. The API pattern is broken as it creates an architectural cross cutting concern when scaling out. I showed this at SpringOne and coded a solution for it as well improving on existing api patterns. To date, I have all code and have coded all solutions and while people could copy and rebuild, it is going to take the awhile without me as I actually have more of a head start than they know; the code has been partially coded in spring-boot as well and improved upon in a variety of ways. This has also been shown to Apple, Paypal, Amazon, Mulesoft with equal amazement... except Amazon. They somehow were stupified like deer in headlights. But I'm not surprised as each time I talk to them, they set me up with an idiot from some other dept.
