Have religious people took the stick out their ass, or will there be more criticism?
As a geek christian named brian, I find this movie hysterical. Undoubtedly though, some over-zealous christian types will gather in front of movie theaters to protest and end up looking like dorks in the process. Way to win new converts guys!
People bitch about this, and that's fine. But at the same time, those people claim to be for free-market economy. But of course, only when it supports THEIR cause.
If I step out of my situation, I agree with you completely. If I step back in my situation, I say that how outsourcing has happened was just not acceptable. It sure feels to me like my entire career was gutted in just a few months. I'm sure may others feel the same way.
If you want to destroy an entire profession in your country, that's fine assuming you have a good reason. But you can't simply ignore all the people who invested years and tens of thousands of dollars in that career. People have 5 year car loans. People have 30 year mortgages. People make long term plans based on the assumption that their lives will be stable long term.
Outsourcing demonstrated to me that I can't count on my government to consider my needs before making a decision. I would say I'm completely meaningless to them, except as a part of consumer spending. I'll be moving into a house with no mortgage by the end of the year. I'll be completely debt free. I will never again finance something. Why? Because I can't ever assume that the amount of money I'm making will remain stable with any certainty. How's that for consumer confidence?
Hell, i would have been ok with outsourcing if i had just been given some warning. How about phasing in this outsourcing over five years? Warn everyone so they can plan, then do it? That's not what happened here. Why? Because corporate executives wanted all the profits now. And the people in washington took their money and did what they wanted. So much for representing us. Fuck the middle class.
This is the stuff that brings about communist revolutions. Follow this trend 20 or 30 years in the future and see where it gets us. Capitalism is fine as along as it's restrained.
I was expecting some mention of a low level format at least,
That's what I was expecting. No custom bios? No custom hard drive logic boards? No creative geometry? I thought someone had figured out a way to double the number of cylinders or maybe increase the number of sectors per track, or at least claim the spares for general use. This procedure is just plain stupid.
As a member of one of those groups, i'd like to chime in. I went to see the movie in theaters and took my 12 year old daughter. After seeing it, I'll let my 10 and 8 year old daughters see it also. I think they have the maturity to handle the violence in that context. I'm not about to say that it's ok for any 8 or 10 year old. I won't let my five year old see it either. That being said, I think it's ridiculous to ban video games, tv shows, music, or movies to protect the children. It's my job to filter what they have access to. This is supposed to be a free society.
I am mechanically inclined as well, but I wouldn't even attempt to repair anything inside the engine of a 2004 car.
Their marketing worked. It's attitudes like this that perpetuate the silly designs of cars. I can't bleed my own brake lines in my *93* minivan because I need a $2000 abs computer to advance the ABS pump. There is absolutly no need for this. It's a lousy design. Engine management comptuers aren't that hard. It's a computer that reads sensors and uses that information to determine an air/fuel ratio. That's it.
Smart consumers and smart bosses never by on cost alone; what they buy on is value, which is benefit divided by cost. American workers may cost more, but they're also very productive compared to many countries.
Too bad the vast majority of bosses and consumers are complete idiots.
If you're worried about your job being outsourced, put your energies into making sure you're giving your boss the best value he can get, and make sure he knows it. Continuing professional education is one good way, and I'm sure people here can suggest others.
I've seen countless workers work themselves to death only to lose their jobs. Sadly, whether or not a job is cut has more to do with how much that person makes and where they are politically in the company. When a boss is told he has to lay off 5 of his 10 people, who will he choose? I say, right or wrong, that boss will keep the people he likes. So much for value. ...Extreme Programming...
Years ago, I worked for a computer rental company. We had set up a number of computers in a booth at a cattle related trade show. For a couple hours, my boss and I looked at the "products" being advertised in the booth next to us. Most were unitentifiable. One however looked like a giant dildo with a power cord on one end and long copper electrodes running the length of it. It was about 2 feet long. We approached the salesman at the end of the show and asked what it was. He said it was for collecting semen from bulls. "You place this in the bull's rectum and plug it in. It 'stimulates' him." It took us an hour to stop laughing.
Many grocery stores will allow you to enter a phone number into the system instead of showing a card. Just give them someone else's phone number.:-)
Being an IT person, I know in excruciating detail what can be done with this data. I remember hearing a case in california where a man slipped in a vons and sued. In court, they pulled out a record of every piece of alcohol he ever bought trying to make it look like he was drunk. They lost.
It's my goal in life to pollute this database as much as I can.
The phenomenally poor in India are seeing a big jump in their standard of living, while the fat American is simply seeing a slow down in their accumulation of wealth.
Because of outsourcing, i'm about to lose my house. I planned for a 50% pay cut because I knew the rates wouldn't last forever. I took a 66% pay cut in 8 months. I'm now making 1/3 what I used to. How many americans can absorb a 50% pay cut over night with no ill affects? Can you? I could. I was conservative. I guess it wasn't enough.
Thanks for these comforting words. I'm sure my children will appreciate them. Hey, I have an idea! How about the fabulously wealthy people in India pick up the tab for the phenomenally poor in India!
...but its more than enough for an Indian as we are not as materialistic as the West...
Of the Indians I've met, and that would be a lot by now, I'd say that Indians are the most materialistic people I've ever seen. My Indian neighbors' favorite pass-time is either keeping up with the Joneses or oneupmanship. They devour status symbols like candy. Maybe that has to do with who comes here vs Indians as a whole, but that's my observation from here in the US.
I live in a chicago suburb and I have dish network. I get weather related problems from time to time. It takes a lot though. Sometimes, the wind gets so hard that it forces its way through the weather stripping on our windows. They make a loud farting noise when this happens. I'm not making this up. In these cases, the wind blows the dish around and we get reception problems. It's not much of a problem though, the dish retrains within a couple seconds and things continue. For snow to stop the signal, it takes a lot. I think in the last three years, I've only lost the signal twice because of snow, it was back in short order. When we lived in indiana, sprind thunderstorms would sometimes knock out service when we had directv. Those outages were longer. I aimed the dish in that case though. I'm using the large starband dish which is larger than the normal dishes, but has two extra stabilizing arms. It's all attached to a large deck though so YMMV.
As a geek christian named brian
No, I'M Brian!
Get your theology straight! God uses multiple inhieritance to bring together the father, the son, and the holy spirit!

Step 1: remove as much wealth from your name as you can, anyway you can.
Step 2: wait one year.
Step 3: While waiting one year, find a relative who will let you live on their property for about two years.
Step 4: file bankruptcy.
Step 5: live in your house without a mortgage for 5-10 months while they foreclose, save money.
Step 6: move in with the relatives, have no bills, save all your money, pay cash for a place to live.

that would be the only way to do it securely.
Or you could just print it.
I know! Godzilla and Barbara Streisand can retire at the same time after one last movie! Godzilla vs Mecha-Streisand!

So what you're saying is that... in Soviet Russia, people are made of Soylent Green?
$1M would be a bargain to foreign governments just to part it out, or as a trainer.
No, I won't! I'm a Toydarian you insensitive clod!

Martians will teach us how to harness zero point energy thus ending all reliance on foreign oil by 2010
It doesn't matter. The martians will certainly make our bad way of life even worse.
I hope trinity is on the list! I heard she cracked the IRS database.

But, somebody obviously did some research in coming up with these characters.
Or maybe they just asked their IT friends to name all their coworkers.
You mean you don't know how to use the three shells?
