  4. rending flesh microphones on Rescue Rats to Find Buried Victims · · Score: 4, Funny

This one is easy. Just program a microphone to pick up on the sounds of flesh being torn from the bones of the victims, and treat this as the "Found one!" signal. Hopefully you can triangulate the position of the victim before they are fully devoured.

I don't get it either. Hotrod opened the matrix and stopped Unicron (Becoming Rodimus Prime in the process). I know they still have to bring O.P. back, but thats more of an episode thing, not a full film.

I prefer choice packaged with my OS. Not that I choose which ONE I get when I install, but the ability to choose them after install, using the best software for the task at hand.

This is only useful to the people who know how to use it. Speaking as one who (professionally) has to provide support to non-technical end users, the simplification of the choices (and yes the dumbing down) is almost necessary to keep them happy. These are educated people, just not tech people.

The question is, which are there more of: skilled users or idjits?

On the other hand, of course. Too many "dumb usians" type posts fail to realize the essential reason for the lack of a switch: for most of us, slashdot is the only regular contact we have with individuals of a foreign disposition. When in Rome notwithstanding, there is almost ZERO BENEFIT for the layman American to learn Celcius. Ever.

Shrug. I agree with the parent post however... ignoring my personal bias, I sort of like having the scale more spread out. There are tangible differences between ~5 F degrees, and its nice to have whole, spead numbers to describe them.

Heh. Don't even get me started about how annoying all the additional syllables in meteric units are to say (cen-ti-me-ter vs inch, ki-lo-me-ter vs mile...). Do you people actually pronounce the whole things, or are there slang abbreviations? Americans optimize everything... witness the conversion of two syllables (thousand) into one (grand) in almost all verbal usage.
