  1. Not the Case for the Hotmail Beta on Windows Advantage Validation Process On Firefox · · Score: 1

If Microsoft is truly serious about browser interoperability, why do they not support and have no plans to support Firfox with their new Hotmail interface (currently in beta)!

  2. Possible on Realtime Audio Conversion And Serving · · Score: 4, Informative

It is definitely doable, but would require a time offset. Transcoding the streams would cause a loss of quality and could not be done entirely realtime.

  4. Varies on Do You Thrive or Crack Under Pressure? · · Score: 1

I have noticed that for myself the levels of stress I can successfully endure vary according to the circumstances. Specifically I can endure large amounts of stress and take on big responsibilities if they are brought on gradually and ramp up slowly, on the other hand sudden stress can be too much for me.

This seems to agree with the article, at least in part, as the researchers seem to be getting at the fact that your outlook on the situation, not just your genetic predisposition, is important to how well you thrive. Of course the two are linked and many bodily functions, as we are discovering, are psychosomatic.

The GNOME button order is very sensible for left to right languages (if it's not automatically reversed for right to left it should be).

Just to clarify, the button order is automatically reversed for Hebrew and Arabic languages, as are all the other controls in the dialogues.
  7. Case by Case on What Do You Think of Online Vigilantes? · · Score: 1

Although I tend to side with the vigilantes on most occasions, I believe actions like these should be judged on a case by case basis. The actions should be genuinely taken in good will and not for any form of personal profit. They should only be resorted to after reasonable attempts to spread the information through proper methods and channels, much like the issue of full disclose of potentially dangerous bugs and exploits.

Where is the author coming getting these ideas? The Slackware 10 install set up my sound and video without any feedback whatsoever from myself, and on fairly recent hardware too: onboard sound from an Intel motherboard and a Radeon 9000.

All I had to do was turn up the volume when I logged into the gnome desktop, which I agree should be done for the user in the first place, but it is hardly worth whining about.

  10. Online Addiction, New Crowd on Virtual Real Estate Boom Draws Real Dollars · · Score: 3, Interesting

I can see this becoming even more of a draw to people for whom Everquest and the likes just don't hold any appeal. The addiction will remain the same, but the lure of a virtual world where chatting to individuals rather than fighting is the focus brings in a completely new crowd, females, younger kids and older adults. These people could care less about RPG's but there is a lot of potential for spending too much time here, especially if things like voice chat start being introduced, replacing "normal" RL interactions.

At the risk of sounding like "me too", when I was in high school I wrote a small program that would move windows away from your cursor when you moved towards them, the results were hillarious so I decided to stick it somewhere obvious and rename it to "Dont run this and that means you jake.exe". It didn't take long for my brother to find and run it, he eventually figured out how to turn it off but admitted he just had to run it and find out what it did.

  16. Counter Strike, no seriously on Trying Your Hand at Level Design? · · Score: 1

I would not categorize counter-strike/half-life as having great level editing tools to work with and the engine is dated, but I would definitely suggest you add some levels and maps to your portfolio, the platform is a standard of sorts and it would be good to show what you can do with it.

Also, definitely take a look at Doom III when it is released. The level editor is built right into the game and allows you to immediately see your results.

Google has never automatically redirected you to paid links. They also clearly mark the sponsered links as such, even moving them to the right side of the page, seperate from the relevant results. The article is trying very hard to push people's buttons.
