When they pull crap like "we just reset/changed/added some protection settings, everything you had guarded is now wide open, kthxbye!", especially when it is a blatant attempt to further their own business plan, and then someone sucks all the data off and makes it available like this entity did?
The old "permission change without warning" has happened with Yahoo and FB that I know of.
YA, TOS probably state they can do whatever they want, but with TOS like that there has to be a fine line crossed somewhere eventually that lands them in hot water.
Is falling on deaf ears. Money talks and pirates aren't paying the bankroll. IMHO movie/media corps will always try to protect their product from theft, period. And they will guarantee that you can play the product sold, so if it doesn't work bring it back, get another copy that will or your money back, that is as far as their liability extends.
Everything else said about pirates bringing better product, DRM being evil, etc.. sounds like Charlie Browns teacher to them.
I realize this adds nothing new to the discussion but it is the reality of the situation.
Also consider the full manufacturing impact on environment (chemical, energy, etc..), disposal cost (physical and environmental), maintenance, and other things almost always left out of these "gee whiz bang" energy solutions. I have yet to see a complete cradle to grave analysis on many of these, and some of the solutions being toted out there are self defeating to their own claims and purpose when looked at on the whole.
I've had BIOS systems set to start to boot in under 2 seconds, I don't see any reason for the fanfare, especially since I got it to that time by telling it to skip all self tests and quick boot. Yawn.
"install security software, update it by retrieving the latest definition file on another computer, and transferring that update to the new system, then running a full antivirus scan.""
And be sure not to use an infected thumb drive m'kay?
Buy an Apple. my wifes iMac lasted ~10 years before we replaced it, and the only reason we replaced it was for a bigger screen for her. A current top end Mac Mini and a 20" Dell LCD will be relevant that long easily.
Bone up on OOP, learn Objective C etc.. it helps out in other areas of life as well. I'm a 41 YO CpE who learned on Borland C and am now teaching myself Objective C. "The Objective C Programming Language" book from Apple (free) has some good philosophy chapters that explain it rather well.
I think ever since MS ripped the interface from Apple they're a bit leery of being "open" to it again.
Besides $99 will get you to developer status on the iPhone, anyone can do it.
What are they whining about?

For as long as I have been following them (several years), he has never been on one earnings conference call, ever. Whoever pushed that as a cause for concern had other motives than health concerns.

It is far broader than CS and can be applied in so many disciplines. It is where Computers were rooted, in systems, processes and controls.
You won't regret it.
