  1. Re:Antenna on Streaming Election Night Broadcast TV? · · Score: 1

I agree, I'd pay $40 or so for an amplified indoor antenna like this one:

Then you're set up for the future, like when there's a hurricane or snowstorm and your Internet goes out. Also, over-the-air HDTV is the highest quality picture you can get for those networks that broadcast their programming. I can even watch golf!

I'm on Verizon Mobile Brodband (EVDO) here in the USA, and it's limited to 5,000 megabytes (5GB) per month. That's about 166 megabytes per day. Just normal web browsing can easily use that much, plus with a PS3 the system or games are always wanting to download updates.

It's a reasonably fast connection, about 1.5 megabits, but I just can't USE the damn thing.

And of course my only other Internet options are dial-up or satellite.

I have a Mazdaspeed3 and it's got great horsepower and torque in a nice 4-door hatch body. But about 28MPG is the best mileage you can hope for. And it requires premuim gas.

A VW TDI has great torque but can also get 50MPG. So if mileage is a major concern you're definitely better off with a TDI. For me milage was important but not the most important factor.

  16. Re:$12 a month versus $50 a month on Dial-Up Users "Don't Want Broadband" · · Score: 1

Personally I'd much rather have Internet than television, but I just watch over-the-air HDTV, pay $12 a month for TivoHD to maximize the value of what channels I get (which is like 15 with digital subchannels), and $50 a month for Internet.

  17. Re:$12 a month versus $50 a month on Dial-Up Users "Don't Want Broadband" · · Score: 1

If you're paying for a dedicated line for your dial-up, it's a lot easier to justify cable. Usually a phone line is at least $25 a month, plus $12 or so for dial-up if you shop around. So given the fact that you could give up the phone line if you switch to cable, the decision becomes $37 for horribly slow internet versus $50 for lightning fast.

Which actually brings up another point, sometimes cable Internet is so over-taxed that it might as well be dial-up.

I hated paying $50 a month for cable internet even though I used the hell out of it. It just doesn't seem like a reasonable price.
