INAL but in the instance of: "And what about when I'm driving down the highway and my kids are watching something in the mini-van? If you can see the movie from your car (and can hear it from the FM transmitter), does that mean that I'm violating copyright law because it becomes a public performance?", I could see someone with the MPAA drooling over the idea. That being said, I don't think any lawyer who passed the bar would try to have that go to court, because it would, IMAO, be considered an unintentional public performance and proving otherwise would be very hard.
Although, from people I met over the years, they have a very good reputation for data recovery. At one of the PC Expos in NYC, I remember they had a booth with a computer that was in a fire. They claimed that they were able to retrieve the data.
I RTFA, and saw no reference to availability. This doesn't seem to be very expensive, in medical cost comparatively. Anyone have experience with this technology, here?
The concern would be the potential un-parental approved watching of movies by children. There are many movies that parents do not want their children exposed to at a too-young age. Some things are not age appropriate and sometimes children fly alone on planes, or the parents catch a nap in-flight, etc. I think you get the point.
I can't pre-order on Amazon yet! This is truly good news for those fans who miss the show and wish it continued through to the end of JS's 5 year plan.
You are correct about the time frame, it was a few years ago. The distribution was Mandrake 10 (I think that was the version, just before it changed it's name to Mandriva) and the user wasn't the sharpest tool in the box. When I deployed with the Army and another IT person (a good friend) tried to move him over to Linux with the same complaint from the user.
In effort of full disclosure, the user may have been wanting to install weatherbug or other win-only application, or it might have been one of the porn sites that he liked to visit that might have belched at him.
The standard KDE GUI is similar enough to Windoze for most people to use out of the box. The real item that needs to be addressed is software installation. Users will not tolerate an OS where the applications are difficult to install much less find.
I know several people who asked that they go back to Windoze because they found finding software difficult to find and when they found it they found it very difficult to install. They certainly didn't want to compile the software. IT people have relatively little difficulty in this matter, however, before widespread adoption is to occur, ease if installation is necessary.
No viruses and rock solid stability are no use to someone if they can't install/run applications that provide the functionality needed.
This is awesome! It shows that at least some of the team members of the IE development team have some self-respect and can appreciate quality work. This shows that just because a group of developers work for the giant doesn't mean that they are disrespectful and bad sports.
If kids don't fall and get hurt, scraped up, bumped or bruised then they won't know what to do or how to deal with it as an adult. Damn liberal commies!
I think I'll be getting a Wii on 24 Dec 06, just like many other people who don't shop until the very last moment. It adds to the excitement of the holiday.
I'm inclined to agree with parent post. Many people have abdicated personal/parental responsibility in raising their children. This would be a good step in waking some parents up and letting them know that being your children's best friend is not the job of a parent. It doesn't take a village to raise a child it takes two parents. I know that what I have declared is not PC, but since when has the truth been PC?
I don't see how this will fit in to my system. I am happily running a DishNet DVR and am not going to buy a HD TV until the tech levels out, that and I bought a very nice JVC CRT set a few years back that will serve me for many years to come. So what will this do for me? Also, what about infringement on the UK's commercial station ITV?
I think people would be able to survive the G forces if they were embedded within a solution that they could breath. The trip would be short enough that the stresses on the heart and lungs would be minimal. Scientists enabled mice to breath in such a solution, http://www.frca.co.uk/article.aspx?articleid=10011 2, why not humans for a short duration, namely a launch into space.
A friend of mine was looking at a USB turntable just the other day. As he was discussing it with me, I was pondering the archival potential of CDs as compared to records. IMAO, I was thinking that vinyl would last longer than the pits in a CD.
I like your electric eel idea and I am sure that many would support it, however groups like PETA would lobby and most likely prevent such research from occuring. It only takes a small organized group protesting to get in the news, if the media sources are favorable to the protest they don't usually indicate that the protest is a small group, and then it just takes a few lunches for a few key senators to make things happen on the Hill. Nice idea, won't see it happen in our lifetimes, at least not in the US.
I do the same thing, although it is usually for a new car. I have watched a few of the Mazda and Hyundai commercials while skipping everything else as they were the ones that looked interesting. The marketing companies need to recognize that they have 30-60 very precious seconds and they need to have something interesting in the frame of each and everyone of them.
What I am surprised to not see is the advertisers advertise more during the show with more blatent product placement and the ending of the 8-11 minutes of commercials every 30 minutes. If the shows were written to take a little longer and have some well placed products, the viewers wouldn't be able skip through it. Then again, would that be considered subliminal? IANAL so I ask: Isn't subliminal advertising illegal?
There is no such thing as the Mafia.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, the site has been slashdotted!

If you spent more time on /. you would know that ANYTHING can be done with Linux.
I found a link on wikipedia that explains the system better than the article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_iTV

Now, I will either wait until the new OSS version comes out or I'll switch to Thunderbird.
