It may be an improvement if the patent process was corrupt; as the feeding frenzy on the battered carcass of innovation is sickening as well. It isn't just software, a quick perusal of this quackery : Patent Number US 7,485,885 B2; February 3, 2009 : provides at least an instance in a rather imaginative domain. [ symopsis : a sticker that protects you from cell phone radiation; apparently you can apply two so you are doubly protected ].
In the above example, there were certainly technical people involved, but you don't have to have agreed to any ethics standard to be an inventor; presumably that is part of what lawyers bring to the table in the patent process.
Has anybody checked what pH they can reproduce at? After reading that book, I ingested copious amounts of acid to ensure I would be one of the survivors.
Its a bit long of a post to hope for that.... Somewhat, concisely, "evolution with direction" is little more than creationism in wolfs clothing. It assumes there is a grand goal, to which evolution is the mechanism of achieving.
I thought this sort of thing was quite difficult, without vapourizing the tissue and dropping it into a mass spectrometer. I know CSI can drop a grain of goop into a breadmaker and have it pinpoint every compound, dna profile and isotope distribution in a few seconds, but I kinda guessed that was a TV-ish thing.

This is exactly the light that the embarrassed organizations don't want to see cast upon this.
The shallow set of talking points "Nothing to see here, move on", "What there is to see puts troops/civilians at risk", echoed by a carefully selected group of PR-generals send the opposite message to me.
To say this puts "civilians at risk" just months after General McChrystal admitted "We've shot an amazing number of people and killed a number and, to my knowledge, none has proven to have been a real threat to the force."
But letting facts get into the way of an argument is very old school.....
He did add a colourful, if vacuous, terminology to describe the internet. The general expression is now something like: (inner|inter|\')(net|tube)s? I'm quite fond of innertubes, because it sounds a lot more fun than the stuff on computers.
[Benjamin Ferencz, a former chief prosecutor of the Nuremberg Trials].... Ferencz concedes that even though Britain and its leadership could be prosecuted, the international legal climate isn't at a place where justice is blind enough to try it -- or as Ferencz put it, humanity isn't yet "civilized enough to prevent this type of illegal behavior." And Ferencz said that while he believes the United States is guilty of war crimes, "the international community is not sufficiently organized to prosecute such a case. There is no court at the moment that is competent to try that crime.".... "Justice for some" is likely to hold for some time.
Funny, we just started using it for conference calls. With our group distributed, it is really handy to have a private way to communicate during meetings. Has the side effect of keeping all the meeting notes in one spot. I hope it continues to be offered.
The fashion industry has dealt with counterfeiting for ages; the cheap knock offs actually help them. The real key (to tthem) is about creating something fashionable. The hilarity is that they have to watch what people do with the knock-offs to figure out what fashionable means. Oh-Bla-Di, Oh-Bla-Dah,....
Did you use a screen capture to post this? Its a bit surreal. For what its worth, totally disagree with you. If you are so concerned about North Korea, China,.... secrets, go ahead and publish them. This guy does what he can. Maybe you should try doing a little.

Apparently they are able to push stories with this magical device as well.

Yes, subject lines are quite useful, especially when they serve as a warning.

Woz, is that you? Have you seen the iPods, they are pretty cool.
Usenix is a meeting of UNIX eunuchs. The anagram is fitting.
It appears one side has a lot more rational people than the other; and the other has a lot louder loons. Both sides will doubtlessly agree.

Mice require a flat surface. With this, you can hook up to a doritos drip lie on the couch and surf on your big tv. Its magic.
