It's still not electrically insulating... and how exactly do you make it fireproof.
Also, it's not a conductor of heat, so it can't help draw away heat from the components... plus it's not strong so it can't support a monitor, or if you put a book on it it may collapse onto your video card.
I think this could work, but sort of like it already does here... what about, they tack on this extra charge on the sale, and then you get some or all of that back IF you recycle? You would have to have a machine that you paid the amount on (Receipt or what-have-you to prove that you did), but if so, take it in for recycling, get $20 or whatever... people are more likely going to do that than without any final incentive... and if you throw it away, well, you loose that money then.
Um... I hope you're joking... you're suggesting that it's desirable to create areas of landfill?
Um, nope... it's possible to live on landfill, that doesn't mean it's something that's a good thing to do.
Especially computer stuff... man that's got some toxic sh*t in it.
Wow... the resume seems to be a downward spiral really... Starting with NASA (Very impressive), working down, down down to companies I've never heard of doing fairly low level stuff.
Bloody hell, it's different alright. It looks different, it has a remote control doovy with a screen on the headphone band, it has a different UI... IT'S DIFFERENT! Apple didn't create everything for god's sake, there were hard-drive based MP3 players around before the iPod... let me refresh your memory
Nothing Meaningful to add except "Hear hear!" I completely agree with what you've said.
I haven't switched to Linux mostly because I'm happy with Windows, as it does everything I want (Although I'm considering having my next laptop being Mac, so a *nix varient at least)... but I keep installing and trying Linux distros to see how it's tracking, and I have nothing against it. But MAN does it annoy me having these darn zealots talking down their held high noses at everyone who actually doesn't mind Windows...
Logging the event is hardly a 'lot' more than just playing them.
It's a nice use of Linux, but an industrial controller does the hard work.
I do approve of it and guess that if it were running windows that after a while of running all you'd here is the standard windows 'ding' over and over due to an error...:)
The thing is microprocessor/sensor/mechanically controlled, Linux is only used for the audio portion of it... Geeze you guys are quick to claim whatever you can as 'being Linux' aren't you?
It's hardly helpful saying that. The point he was making is that: a) Apple say their designs are so that the most computer iliterate can use their machines b) He has one that's used by the iliterate and they find it really hard to use.
Hence his point is very valid and points out a serious design flaw in the Mac's 'buttonless' design.
One could argue that the 4th added winner... the soothing green light design, is indeed the second best design, better than others there... and I think Thinkgeek agrees, what with their ordering of the t-shirts on display... in fact I agree completely with their ordering of them.
Sometimes one has to wonder about the design sense that the Cmdr Taco has...:)
"old-timer aircraft design engineer" There is your problem. There are some people that just too wound up and afraid if they can't picture in their head the mechanical connection between the pilot's hand and the flaps, engines etc. It's an inherent distrust in anything other than things 'they can touch'.
As far as comfort goes, I give a big two thumbs up to Airbus, I always prefer to fly on them... it's a pity that almost all planes in Australia are still 7X7s...
Um... but the point he was making is that DVD is CHEAPER than the CD... which you've just proved again, only with lower prices... you've proved the same point.
What I want to know is where did they find "60 users aged 25 to 55 with computer skills but no prior experience with Linux or Windows XP"?
I mean unless you're talking purely publishing type people who have only ever used a Mac, that's not a bad achievement to find people WITH computer skills who have never been near Windows or Linux!
a) They didn't think of it, these were students who came up with it... from your OWN QUOTE: "developed by students Microsoft invited to participate in the research fair"
and
b) It's trying to get around the parents being able to watch everything the child does... would you like your parents watching you in your house? No? Didn't think so.
Geeze... people are really quick to jump on MS... even when it's not them.
As an Australian who spent some time in California in the bay area, I completely agree with seeing any of the Fry's stores... we have NOTHING on that scale in electronics stores here... the staff no less than nothing about anything they're selling, but the range and prices are supurb.
I agree with all of your points... it rarely works to try some boring exercise plan that requires labourious and repetitive tasks... people generally just won't stick to it (some love it... yeay for them)... the only way is either make it fun, like you did, or just make it part of the day.
When my wife and I were looking for a house one of the 'nice to haves' was a place that wasn't too close to a train station that I got no exercise walking to it but not so far away that I couldn't be bothered walking... we found a place around 1.5ks (around a mile) away, and so now I walk that distance twice a day... it's excellent to wake you up both in the morning and for the evening at home (makes me less tired), and keeps me in shape more than driving into work every day would.
Yeah, the thing that the movie companies might not like is a pure digital stream off their precious DVDs, this means that you could concievably rip the film to Divx or similar without there being any Analogue conversion anywhere along the line... pure digital makes for easier compression, cleaner image, better all round for the rippers...
Or, you could do a digitally near perfect copy of the DVD to another DVD... which is probably more to the point as the small difference in visible quality would be lost in a Divx copy anyway, especially when compressed down enough to fit on a 700Meg CD anyway.
Australia actually, sorry, talking in Aussie dollars.

Also, it's not a conductor of heat, so it can't help draw away heat from the components... plus it's not strong so it can't support a monitor, or if you put a book on it it may collapse onto your video card.
It's just dumb.

oooh yeah, that's both electrically safe, and fire safe, all in one... lovely.
That's just deaths waiting to happen.

Um, around 460,000 people in Japan apparently... stop trolling.
Oh crud. Less than $40 added onto the price of an over $1000 investment is negligible, and really is a worthwhile effort to drop wastage.
Wow... the resume seems to be a downward spiral really... Starting with NASA (Very impressive), working down, down down to companies I've never heard of doing fairly low level stuff.
:(
Quite sad really...

I will never call this man a pinup.... NEVER do you hear me?!
"P.S. Gamespy has an article this month about how Halo sucks."
How long after everyone has already bought it or not? Safely a long time ago, so now they can say whether they really didn't like it or not.

All the same, it's a pretty dim idea.
Man, that's way bigger than I thought it was... amazing what your brain can do when it has no near objects to compare something to.
