I almost bought a Paradise Lost CD (I dont remember what label they are on, nothing mainstream), and while I was waiting in the checkout line I saw some fine print on the back bottom of the cd reading something like "this cd will only play in computers with the supplied software." Since I 1) Dont want to install any extra software to play an audio cd and 2) Dont run windows, I went and put the cd back. I really hope people refuse to buy this crap.
I really liked eclipse 2.0, with the improve c# plugin, but that gtk-2.2 progress bar bug was a pita...I tried one of the rc's and it was fixed though. Look forward to using this version.
I bought this book a few years ago. I found it very helpful as a beginner programmer. Unlike some books which just teach you the concepts, this book show you how to use them in real world applications. Alot of code you can basically reuse in your own projects. I reccomend the book to anyone who wants to learn how to use php and mysql together.
Invisible Car - not so far out

I remember seeing a show on TLC or Discovery with the army using an "invisible" vehicle. It has some sort of cameras on one side and displays those images onto the other, making it blend it very good with its surroundings.
Only a few months ago, I tried gentoo and had like 10 broken ebuilds while installing. That was too much for me, so I wiped it and put slack back.
So, in August, I gave Gentoo another shot. Only had one faulty ebuild on the install, which is ok with me. Skip ahead a few weeks, I install the GCC 3.2 1.4 pre-release. Not a single problem during the base install, and no problems with anything else either(kde, gnome, mozilla, etc).
Overall, I'm very impressed with how far Gentoo has come. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the project!
Well, I dont know if you tried the UT2003 demo, but if you want to run the game smoothly at a decent framerate, your going to need a good video card. I'm imagining that when UT2003 comes out on oct 1st, with the full textures(the demo uses low quality textures to cut down on the download side, iirc), im willing to bet that 128mb of memory on the card is going to help out quite a bit.
A book that I found EXTREMELY useful was "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Luke Welling and Laura Thomson. I had virtually no programming experience, but picked php up VERY quickly with this book. Its nice because it uses real world examples and shows you how to use php to interact with MySQL. This book looks great too, I'm gonna go pick it up.
I started out on a MajorBBS system, and played TeleArena and LORD all the time. I've played everquest for a year and I can say tele-arena was so much more fun. Not many people play it anymore, otherwise, I'd love to start playing it again. I've still got my copy of worldgroup and a copy of ta though so maybe some day I'll fire it back up again.
That would suck though. If you needed to use the CD/DVD/CDRW, you would have to buy an external one...wouldnt be able to take the 2nd hard drive out of raid. ( without loosing everything, that is )
I put Mandrake on my grandmas a while ago. It works great for her needs...web, e-mail, word processing, printer support, and a load of games that come with kde/gnome/etc that are great for the kids when they come over...
I've got to agree. Over $25,000 USD spent there since theyve opened, and not a single problem. Had a few things that needed an rma, and it was very painless. Reguardless of what some people may think, I think their shipping prices arent bad at all...even with a monitor in the basket. Another thumbs up for newegg.
Working on an Open Source project is GREAT for highscool and college students. We really dont have enough time to be working a job and going to school but we can do a little bit of coding whenever we feel like it. Its also great experience.
I've been using linux on and off for the past few years, didnt have a clue at first. Once Slackware 8.0 came out I was all set. I was confused a bit at first since I was used to redhat rpms, guis etc, but soon enough I loved slackware. I've been using 8.1 Beta 2 for a few days, and I'm loving it so far. If you want to learn linux, slackware is the only way to go.
This is really making me sick when I see things like this. There isnt really anything the company can to do defend themself and even if panip looses the case the smaller company will be stuck with a whole lot of legal fees to pay off. I sure as hell hope something is done about this and soon.
People already are. GTK# has come a long way since the project was started. I've never used QT#, though.
GTK#
QT#
No Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, Dark Funeral, Deicide or Cannibal Corpse?
:)
On second thoughts, I dont blame them for not attempting to sue us that listen to such music
No game has affected me more than EverQuest did.

Does anyone know of any lan parties in Rochester NY? 3dLan used to be awesome until they stopped doing it.

I'm willing to bet that its gonna be their We have the way out project.
Now all TNN needs is to get Beavis and Butthead, get rid of that annoying black bar and it would be the only channel I'd watch.

...I'm sure alot of hackers are going to try and see how 'unbreakable' it really is.
Tele-Arena rocked. I had so much fun when there was a local BBS around here. Now they are all shut down and going to one thats not local is no fun :(
