Ummm, he never claimed that Wal-Mart "don't sell huge volumes of PS2's or Xbox's alongside the GC's" He just said that Wal-Mart sells more Nintendo than other retailers.
Our friends at the Sci Fi Channel have given the Green Light to begin production of Children of Dune.
I've got to protect my good name, so I replaced the erroneous link for "Green Light" that was given in the story. My copy (above) gives the real scoop!
For the FireWire-equipped PeeCee (or Mac, obviously), you can not only carry your music collection (or at least a large percentage of it) around with you, but can transfer the files to any suitably equipped machine. The music files are in an invisible directory on the iPod, and are easy to find.
I'm using a Sega Genesis, Santa! I bought it in 1989! Please send me a GameCube with Super Monkey Ball, Luigi's Mansion, and a football or baseball game! I've been good all year (I've been good since I got the Genesis in 1989, for goodness sake).

Last night, here in Columbus, they started advertising the games pretty heavily. I saw ads for "Halo", among others. I don't know if it was just because of my cheap tube, but the images shown were a bit "grainy". Not exactly what I was expecting from a 21st-century gaming console.
Exactly what "obvious miscarriage of justice" are you talking about? The proposed settlement is apparently not going to go through. The case will go back to the judge for her to determine the remedies.
And exactly what does the XBOX have to do with this? Microsoft violated anti-trust laws relating to their bundling of the browser (which is a debatable crime), forcing PC manufacturers to ship with Windows, practically speaking, and other similar acts. The XBOX is a new, unproven gaming platform, and MSFT should be allowed to lose as much money as possible on it 8^)
Ummm, well, I have gone to your suggested link and NOT found any specs on the GameCube. I searched, no joy. In fact, I have been unable to find specs anywhere.
How about it? Is there a link anywhere that will lead to GC specs? Or is it a secret that if you told me, then you would have to kill me?
I worked in a place that tried that. They were a NT 3.51 shop, and when they started rolling out NT 4.0, they decided to do the "lockdown" thing. Nothing could be changed on the box, not even screen depth/resolution (umm, duh, we need to test the software that we are writing against different machine configurations, including screen resolutions...). Well, that lasted all of a couple of days before each developer was given admin rights on his own box. Seems the support department got real tired of trotting out to our desks to make simple changes for us...
The article talks about several bundled things that use MSN (Media Player, etc.). There are also a bunch of games bundled with XP (Internet Checkers, Internet Hearts, etc.) that automatically connect to MSN to play against a random opponent. There is this windows that pops up first telling you that it has to send some info to the server for you to be able to play, but promising that it will never never never send any personal information out.
Makes you wonder what personal information it is sending out...
Another silly prediction of Apple's demise...

Apple releases iPod

Everytime I hear this, I'm ROTFL.
Apple's critics have been predicting it's demise SINCE at least 1984! I remember reading pundits like John Dvorak in the '80s constantly saying that Apple would be dead within months, it was doomed because their computers were not IBM-compatible, blah, blah, blah.
I'm one of the "idiots" (according to those pundits) who bought one of the original 128K 9" monochrome Macs in 1984. I've owned Macs ever since, including a spankin' new G4 with OSX. I have never had a reason to regret owning my Mac collection (and yes, every one of them still work!).
As far as the iPod goes, they'll sell at least a half-million of these things, which will make it a mild success. I'll wait for the iPod 2, though, with a 20+GB drive and lower price 8^) They (and the copycats) will sell millions of those.
...crystal storage. Transfer speeds 1000 time normal blah blah blah...
Well, that's fascinating; do you have any links that talk about specific "crystal storage" technology, or did you get this information from "Superman: The Movie" 8^)
Seriously, I'd like to find a way to store all of the world's information in a few crystal cubes in my pocket. Just the geek factor alone is enough to get me excited. I could solve any argument, for instance, by hooking the relevant cube up to my Palm and scratching out the appropriate question on the screen. I think that's a "reasonable demand"...

What really worries me is that the best proceses in the world screw up ocassionally. Let's say for the moment that they have 99.99% accuracy in identifying accurately those who are shoplifters. That means that for every 10,000 people who visit Borders, one will be falsely harassed as a suspected shoplifter.
No, your 99.99% statistic would mean that for every 10,000 people who were positively identified by the system, one would be falsely harassed. I would suspect that the percentage of individuals flagged by the system would be low.
Having said that, I plan to inform those who are "in control" at Borders that I plan to never enter any of their stores if this system is actually implemented in the USA.
Depending upon what hardware you have, the restrictions can be meaningless.
I have a Sony digital camcorder (TRV530, Digital8 variety). It has the analog pass-through to FireWire like most of the Sony models. I simply hook up the camera's analog input to my Pioneer audio/video receiver, switch to the DVD input, and play a DVD movie right to the harddisk of my G4 using iMovie.
My G4 does not have the Apple SuperDrive, so I am waiting for a FireWire version of somebody's (anybody's) DVD[+-]RW drive before I decide what to purchase.
I work for Qwest. Qwest is completely in control of the company (US West's head honcho Sol Trujilo has even stepped down from the position that he was going to have after the merger). The merger has been completed and the company is named Qwest
I wonder how many people know about InterBase. This fast, full-featured RDMS is becoming open-source. Go to InterBase, download the beta version of 6.0, and check it out. Honestly, I cannot imagine what mySQL could have over InterBase.
Its a fallacy to suggest every song I pirate is taking money from the music industry. I have been forced to download mp3's because I couldn't find the CD's anywhere. The record company didn't lose money because I couldn't have given them the money if I wanted to. Also, just because I'm willing to accept something for free doesn't mean that I would go out and pay money for it if it wasn't free.
That is a ridiculous, tired argument. If you are not willing to go out and pay money for something, then you have no right to posess it! That is like saying that it is alright to steal a diamond from the jewelry store, because I never would have paid for one!
But that would be a "circumvention device", and we all know what that means...
