If more people would use the SWT libraries (part of the Eclipse project) instead of the crappy AWT/Swing libraries
I looked into this, and (being a mediocre programmer) tried to find "hold my hand" information on how to do it. What I found required too much learning effort on my part. I am looking forward to the Eclipse interface builder plug-in maturing. I'm hopeful that that will make the difference for me.
I think you've managed to create an insightfully modded post in which every significant statement is wrong.
it will sell for $99-$130
Too low. Apple's making a hundred bucks easy on each current iPod. Even at $130 the margin is sliced to bits.
BUT it will only play AAC not mp3
No friggin' way in the world it won't play mp3.
It's the old "give away the handle and sell the razors" model.
Except that they are making a bundle on the handle and taking a loss on the blades. Why in the world would they invert what they're doing?
Steve Jobs said a few months ago that it was an Apple goal.
Not exactly. He said they'd "love to," which is not nearly the same thing. I can't see a sub $100 iPod coming out tomorrow. There's just not enough margin in it.
In the last three years, the number of people who have ranked their concerns regarding spam as "high" or "significant" has actually steadily dropped
I have to question your figures. The volume and awareness of spam is so much greater than it was three years ago that I find it hard to believe that your users are experiencing significantly less problems with it.
You imply that the reason they are less concerned is that you have implemented a fee-based filtering system. So you're saying that on one hand it's much less of a concern, but on the other hand your users are willing to pay extra to deal with it? That's a valuable customer base you have there. Perhaps you should look into what other things they don't care about, and figure out a way to charge them for that, too.
Just think, if it was about "upgrading" windows boxes to Linux it would not be considered flamebait. It would be applauded by the slashdot sheep.
So you can't see how saying one thing is flamebait, but saying the opposite is not?
Example:
You're a moron.
You're no moron.
It also depends on your audience. Saying "Abortion is murder" at a pro-choice meeting might well be flamebait, but saying it at a pro-life meeting certainly is not.
In a way, you are saying the same thing. With something like the lottery, the variance outweighs the expected return. So if you're going to play, it doesn't really matter if you play it when the jackpot is extra large, or just normal.
Hmm, must some new law of statistics I'm not familiar with.
If the jackpot is large enough, each ticket bought that week will have an average return higher than the cost of the ticket. However, that fact alone does not make it a good bet, because the variance overwhelms the positive expectation.
Thanks (and to arth1). I thought he meant the reverse; that you can't get out until trial. This Norway sounds like a pretty good place - is it on Earth?
If SCO go bankrupt before the case gets tested in court it will leave a smear on the good name of linux.
IF SCO goes belly up the assets don't disappear. Someone will buy them, and then they would have the right to pursue any litigation. More likely, though, is that whoever bought them would try to make peace and announce the claims were unfounded.
That said, SCO does not ever want to go to court. They are making their money now, and a trial could only hurt them. So if they don't go belly up they will drag things out as long as possible, and the problem will continue.
I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "and."

And monthly = mensual.
I thought it was Feynman. Or was he simply telling the story?
What do you think, these are actual photographs from the edge of the universe?
The puzzle being "What should I use to smash this effin' thing to bits so I can get some damn sleep."

This Norway is sounding like a pretty good place to be. Too bad it's in, like, Norway.
It's not completely, anyway.

It is?
Just what is this "dorking," and why do it to a donut?
But seriously. You're not following along. When you loop back the two openings to touch each other, you get a tube, just like a donut.
Well, that's a good point. But it's the audience that determines the "flammability" of the comment. Different comments set off different audiences.

A failing monopoly is still a monopoly. And because of that failing it will get worse before it gets better.
In a way, you are saying the same thing. With something like the lottery, the variance outweighs the expected return. So if you're going to play, it doesn't really matter if you play it when the jackpot is extra large, or just normal.
Sure. You could click on them to give them focus. If they're editable, you'll get a carrot.
Your sucks word order.

I can't get it to run. It flashes in the dock and terminates. No output in the console, so I don't know why.
No bail? To lock you up all the state has to do is accuse you, or am I misunderstanding?

You misspelled trivial.
