    I build my own systems and I sure as hell can build a screaming system for much less than any Mac out there.

    So mail servers running on *nix are compleatly uneffected by an increase in mail traffic?...Perhaps when my mail server starts getting bogged down, I can ask all my users to attach a large virus to every one of their emails, so it will run more smoothy.

    I know you're being sarcastic, but your sarcasm is inconsistent. If they're unaffected, how could that possibly make it run more smoothly?

    Linux is not controlled or owned by one entity but hundreds. Unless they want a, uh, reverse-class-action lawsuit (do these exist) or make a few hundred cases, Linux is fine.

    A "reverse class action" is done by first getting a strong judgement against the most formidable opponent. Once that's done, you can visit the others, waving the judgement. The lesser defendants will often concede rather than fight what would likely be a losing battle.

    I'll bet that without the GNU tools, 90% of those packages wouldn't exist -- it's hard to do much without a compiler and all the other stuff we take for granted.

    You're right, they don't. Just this morning I went to the dealership to pick up the car I had in for service. While they were printing the bill their computer crashed. When they rebooted I saw that it was running Windows 95.

    What about an upgrade price for Panther? I just spent $129 last fall for Jaguar.

    Look, here's the deal. If you want nice stuff you have to pay for it. That's just the way it is. If you're willing to settle for something else then sure, you can spend less money.

    Overrated is useful for those times when, say, some silly comment gets moderated as insightful. Underrated (while admittedly less important) is useful for a normal post that gets moderated as flamebait or troll.

    as soon as he holds the block still for a second, the arm distinctly reaches out and grabs it. What I'm curious about is what causes the arm to stop simply following the object and actually try to grab it.

    most of us who spend all day in front of a computer would likely benfit from giving ourselves six to eight feet rather than two.

    The cost of the shoes alone would make that impractical.
