I think this article is just riding the wave of criticizing/blaming video games for social problems, grasping at straws for attention and income.
At risk to karma, I just have to say that the whole idea was "shaky" to start out with, and execution much worse. Now they are just messing up the 'trek universe to try and save the series, and their jobs. How many 'new' aliens can you introduce? How many more skin conditions and facial protrusions can you have on a humanoid body? All to be involved in plotlines from the future, and all to be long forgotten...
They should be telling the stories of how star fleet got off the ground, how traditions/laws like the prime directive got into place (i.e. I'd like to see them meet a 'new' alien race, trade some anti-matter technology, and then watch them blow up their own planet with it, everybody is all sad and they start making ground rules), what/how the pre-kirk technology worked (think transporter accident), etc. Anything more than that is just a giant kludge...
Just to add to that, there are quite a few people that can hear the extremely high-pitched whine of CRT's scanning - we can tell if a TV is on in a room without looking with it on mute. The channel changing sound is much lower pitch so almost anyone can hear that, not to mention the static discharges that can occur. It's no surprise to us that electronics make noise, in fact sometimes it can be downright painful. I used to have this 32" inch TV that would whine to the point of pain until it warmed up 5-10 minutes later. Of course as I cover my ears everybody else doesn't notice a thing. Good ears can be a curse:(
Whenever you have a flow of current, you will have a magnetic field generated, and that field reacts with the environment to cause motion. Movies get away with it because of motion blur - but in the newest style the action scenes are filmed with very low blur because otherwise any fast motion get smeared across the screen. The effect is that you can percieve much more detail - but it looks like a strobe light is going off.
60Hz refresh is a strain on the eyes because 60fps is very visible to the naked eye. The flicker you see should be proof for anyone that even 60fps is not enough to render true fluid motion.
Regardless, don't take my word for it - ask the air force.

I don't drive a SUV, I drive a 2600lb car, and NO ONE EVER tailgates me. Your car weighs almost 4000lbs, you are more akin to an SUV than I am. If someone is behind me, REGARDLESS of my speed, I move right and let the person pass. I shouldn't need to say this as you are not attacking my statement, only my car and me personally (of which you have no idea). It has been shown already at this point that you are being illogical and are more of a risk than previous though because of a 'real' killer - ROAD RAGE.
So where are these 'many multi-car pileups'? This usually happens in bad road conditions and fog, where people are going too fast and too close FOR THE CONDITIONS. It's like the 'speed kills' statistics that are so pushed in our face. They fail to mention that 95% of the speeders are drunk, and the rest are testing out the limits of their car at 140+mph.
If 2-3 seconds is just thinking time, put down your damn cell phone/hamburger/coke. 2-3 seconds is an ETERNITY. If you take that long to think about putting your foot on the brake, your license should be taken away. I fear the day that I meet you in traffic.
It doesn't matter how good your brakes are it's all about tire material+contact surface area+car weight. Big racing brakes only help when you need multiple contiguous stops, all cars are designed with brakes good enough to stop the car once from high speeds before they heat up and lose their stopping ability. These are fundamental physics of brakes. You can take a regular car that stops 60-0 in 120 feet and put in $6000 6-pot brembos on 15" rotors and it will still stop 60-0 in 120 feet, all though it will be able to do it all day long, instead of once or twice. So indeed your stopping capabilities are much less than what you think they are. Additional talking-out-of-ass-check You have 18" RIMS not, 18" brakes. You have 355mm=14" rotors. How startling you don't even know what 'your car' is even equipped with.
The reason I am leaving 200 yards in front of me is because there is an asshole with an SUV tailgating me, so I have to leave at least enough room in front of me to stop while applying the brakes slowly enough that the SUV-asshole does not end up embedded in my tail pipe.

They have both published blatently false information (ie. THG - 30fps is enough for everyone, movies are only 25fps, etc, etc), and never a retraction. I might skim by their pics of hardware(*cough* those have been faked also, look around for the huge flames), maybe even benchmarks, but that's it. Take it all with a nice 100lb boulder of salt. A small periscope type system?. You can get the rear view to a comfortable viewing angle without power or wind resistance, for the weight of a few mirrors. Adjust the mirrors' size/shape to get a good field of view.
Novice users will always use file selection dialogues and icon-based file managers. Thus the only time they type a filename is at initial creation. Beyond that it does not matter. If they are going into a shell, they are not novice users anymore (I doubt you will see aunt Ginny do this)
After 50% of the population is behind bars for "crimes" we can then break out of prison, overthrow the goverment, deliberate for months and make the best goverment on paper that has ever existed, then wait for our great great grandchildren to ignore everything we've said, and let the cycle begin again.
