Announcing that the software that could be used to bypass their filters is indistinguishable from malware will mean than soon China will be the country with less malware (ok, if you want, non-government sponsored malware) in the world. Not sure how much that will hit botnets, or the level of spam, but probably could be enough to make a difference.
Also, that could be very bad news for malware/botnet/spambots programmers/controllers... at least, i hope so.
I would be more worried about people (as in 90%+ of it) choosing lower quality products not because they are cheaper, or is delivered faster, or safer (in fact, none of them), but better marketed.
*if* worldwide, means that they know also whoever is attacking you, or a company, or put your pc in a botnet, etc. The problem is that that will mean virtually no privacy/freedom/anon/etc for good guys, and the bad guys will probably still be hidden doing whatever they want. And the who watches the watchers problem will be a very big one.
That is too damn close to say that the opposite party are terrorists. From there to dictatorship there are a very small step, for this government or whatever ones comes next.
Make me remember that movie (was there?) when a ticking box was delivered, Drebbin announced that was a bomb and washed/hammered/destroyed it. Then resulted that was the clock gift for retirement or something like that. That it looks like a wooden horse don't always means that is er... "Made in Troy".
You know, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Maybe is the proof we need of existing (underground?) alien civilizations. And could be cheaper than a Dyson sphere or a ring world.
Of course, also could mean that that planet wasnt in that orbit more than a millon years ago for some natural causes. Occam rulez.. and shaves.
They "should" not trust. What happens when you have pages that contains malware/trojans/spyware or just adware like i.e. winantivirus? Distribution of malware is not in pages saying that it should not be trusted, but the opposite.
In the other hand, if we hit users with a hammer in the head each time they install something that should not be trusted we should start as soon they install Windows.
That charts do some explanation on how they get that numbers, linking to http://eeepc.asus.com/global/computing.html, where they explain that they use one test (Battery Mark 4.0.1) for measuring battery life in Windows, and a different one in Linux (JEITA Battery Run Time Measuring Method). Essentially, there you are comparing apples with oranges.
At ~ 1800 dollars is a bit expensive to be considered a netbook. Netbooks arent mean to be speed demons, just cheap internet anywhere (and long battery life helps in that direction).. The 3g connectivity in this nokia netbook is a push in the right direction (gps too, as there are a lot of location based internet services).
Asus 1101 HA gets 11+ hours, but the Atom processor included is one of the Z series (that can be overclocked to get an N series speed, but reducing battery life). Playing creatively with conditions on which you get that runtime you could get up to 12hs, i suppose.
If is somewhat standard netbook hardware you can install linux on it, but some hardware components will make it tricky (not sure how well supported is the gps and 3g that they will include, time will tell when more complete specs) and some software components that they want to push too (music? will be DRMd? And i suppose that the OVI store dont have a lot of linux programs for selling),
Anyway, would be interesting to see that it runs linux with all the hardware supported. And that have a price similar to the average of other netbooks. Pushing up netbook standards (i.e. that long battery, gps, 3g) at that price and make the rest of vendors follow the trend could be a good thing.
They could be smart (at least, smarter than traditional ones), but placement, cost, procedure, etc are human (like the ones that decided where they must go, numbers, etc).
in a secrete government facility some testing are being done on something that surely must be an alien with shape shifting abilities or a liquid metal robot from the future. It was found looking like a blonde, young and attractive female solving math problems.
A better reading could be "people that exploit vulnerabilities of browsers prefer to not use those vulnerable browsers". Not sure how much technically inclined they are (not sure if there are a black market of plug-and-exploit-for-dummies kits), but they are aware of how much damage can be done to whoever (including them) using those vulnerable browsers.
If having Death (complete with scythe, black robe, as skeleton, etc) as one of main characters in all the series is not enough, you have plenty (mainly in the 1st books) of events where the end of universe, the end of reality, and/or the coming of Ancient ones/cthuluish monsters/etc is about to happen. Not sure if that elements there turns Discworld into terror, but are typical of that genre.
You didn't read Discworld, then? Is not that the entire books means to be funny, but have a lot of good laughs, and that in a story interesting enough that have a bit of everything. When i have to classify the secondary genre of those books, i doubt between fantasy, terror, sci-fi, philosophy and others, but the first one is humor definately.
Is very useful to Computerworld and Preston Gralla. Who knows how much ad impressions they got by such bad article.
Be soldier for several years and you will be promoted to military intelligence operations.
The previous attemp contained in papers stored in the head, using hebrew text as programming language.

Nature did a good work with rabbits in Australia. Whats the worst that could happens in the ocean?

Their website seem to be running on one of those phones. From fully responsive to slashdotted in 10 secs.
When? Coming soon is not releasing... yet.

Now we know what goes in the 2nd point

... to dark chocolate.
Now they must build magnetic orientation belts, infrared patches and smelly radiation detectors.

You should count Safari, browsers with fake identification, IE versions that are still believed to be mostly safe, and suicidal maniacs.
