  1. Re:Movie industry makes sale worthwhile on Music Industry Staggers While Film Industry Blooms · · Score: 1

"People don't go out and drop $8.50 to hear a CD played."

On the other hand, people don't go out and spend from $30 up to $100 (good seats, good band) to see a movie performed live.

  2. Re:Online or Offline, it still sucks. on Why Magic Online Will Suck · · Score: 1

The same thing seems to keep hitting the role-playing game companies. The continual upgrading scheme (new versions, new sourcebooks) tends to drive a lot of people away, especially when the new stuff sucks.

There will also be components that encrypt information as it moves from keyboard to computer (to prevent someone from wiretapping or altering what you type) and from computer to screen (to prevent someone from generating a phony output to your monitor that can trick you into OKing something you hadn't intended to).

What about from the monitor to my eyeballs? I mean, if that isn't encrypted, the whole system breaks down..

Wait.. that's where the DRM glasses from a few weeks back come in, right?

Hence why they can afford to do this - they're firmly established big artists. A lot of the small bands I've met are still striving for the record deal they need to get bigger.

Maybe this explains some of the US involvement in middle-east politics. Maybe they are looking as far ahead as Iceland is. Too bad they're doing it through gun sights.

Bleh.. there should have been a spoiler alert on the radio this morning. The DJ's had all gone to the sneak preview the night before and had brought in a film critic they'd seen it with and discussed the movie on the radio for a half-hour. I wound up turning it off about halfway through when they got to the Jar-Jar/Yoda makeout scene described in the above posts.

At the place I work at, we're not allowed to go beyond 'reading from the script'. However, I can see the reasoning behind it. There's a certain limited nubmer of things we support. If it's outside of that area, we're not allowed to help with it, we have to refer to the vendor/manufacturer.

The reason? If Joe Sixpack calls in and get support for his hub and home network from his ISP because the guy taking calls happens to have the same setup and it goes down again, he's gonna call back and expect the same support. Even if the analyst isn't there and nobody knows what Mr. Sixpack is talking about.

As to the pay, I'm making a nifty wage with nice bonuses for working nights and weekends.
