This concept further erodes the rights of the individual, favoring corporate interests.
Things got really fucked up when corporations were granted individual rights, they have since taken that privledge and gone too far (think RIAA and MPAA)(guilty until proven innocent, etc.).
When law places interests in, protecting itself, and protecting buisness it has failed it's primary objective of protecting the rights of the individual. (think about the person who was arrested and charged for filming police activity)
What yanks my chain is you still have to be a power user just to get basic functionality from a desktop system using Linux!
Why is it so freaking hard to burn a CD? Why is it so ridiculously difficult to install java support? Why is wireless networking next to impossible? (My original Novell distro worked with my wireless card but it has never worked again)
I just heard about easyubuntu so maybe alot of the answers are there I will try it on my next install.
It did identify the trojan, but gave no info on how to check for the trojan or get rid of it.
The article mentions certain databases that were hacked to discover identities of potential victims to mail the pump & dump spew, but which databases were cracked? I think the owners of these databases are legally obligated to inform the folks who's data was acquired. Why are these databases not identified? Why have I not been contacted by any of these database owners? Since I am a recipient of the spew (700 to 1000 per day), I have to assume my data was among that which was cracked. I'd like to know who gave away my data....
All in all this article is no more than a rehash of old info on botnets. Give me some hard data I can use to to help me protect myself!!!!
I'm getting 500 to 1000 emails a day, out of that 1 to 5 are legit. I am on the verge of pulling the plug on mail to my domain and just using Gmail. The majority of my network disc useage is mail.
So I agree, open the flood gates and then maybe something will get done properly about the problem.
Just recently a report was made about how govt workers are wasting time on the internet, shopping, chatting, my space, and porn.....
Gee, I wonder how those bots got in the system? They didn't just cruize in and take up residence. THEY WERE INVITED!
Now if an limitation were installed that would not allow a luser to click OK, that would prevent that from occuring. However on the other hand call center tickets would double and luser satisfaction would decline if they were not allowed to install useless screensavers and fuzzy mouse pointers, or 19 internet search bars.
Luser education is the way, I have never been infected by any of these vermin. Mostly because I learned my lesson with the monkey virus from a floppy someone gave me in 1995. Most of the exploits were not around in the days I was mucking about learning about the internet by searching out the rankest porn (thank the gods). So I was spared from most of the misery, however I am very familiar with it from the other end as an admin.
If lusers were educated or if their privledges were limited the infection would be limited. The fact is that govt does not want to deal with the problem, IT depts are not allocated the resources to deal with the problem. They are not willing to deal with the political effects of limiting privledges (certain PHBs will demand sys admin privs and they are a source of infection). Another way of limiting the infections would be to route all outside traffic through a proxy with heavy filtering, again iliciting potilical backlash with slow access.
I don't really want to go draconian on them, but the wankers shouldn't be shopping or porning on my dime. Cut their nuts off. Clamp down on access and privledges however neccessary. Take away luser privledges now!
From my experience. I am deluged with satelitte sales pitches, home loan offers, and more. Most have gone to an automated system that rarely offers an opt out feature, at any rate you have to listen to their pitch to get to a human. Grrrrrrrrrrrr...
Initiate a support call to your ISP and the first thing they tell you to do is to remove your firewall/router in order to trouble shoot your connection......
If I do patch my machine I get WGA, whatever other unknown bugs introduced. Also ever notice how MS machines seem to get more unstable as we get closer to a new release? Where's the KB article on that?
Over putting TV on the internet, THAT is what this is really about. The major players want to prioritize traffic so their streaming TV Crap gets through. The net is for the WEB not friggin TV! Gawd, I'm gonna be really pissed when my web connection is degraded to provide a clear path for TV.
They have failed to keep up with the world.
Now we are suppose to give them money for nothing?!!
I don't think so....
Chad writ: "When did dickish corporate behavior become the new standard? I must have missed that memo."
This occured a long time ago when corporations were granted individuals rights.
I have 5 StarTAC phones, my hands down favorite of all time phone.
Verizon will not activate any of them because they do not have built in GPS for 911 service.
Good luck getting an old phone activated.....

This is just WRONG!!!!!
"All your computer are mine"
I can't read them.
If I did, I would have to click "NO, I Don't agree"
And then I wouldn't get what ever I wanted to do done.
And then I would get in a fight with the retailer when I tried to return the crappy software.
And then I would need bail because I throttled the store manager.
And then I would be labeled a terrorist for fighting for my civil rights.
And that would stop my downward spiral because prisoners in Guantanamo don't get to have Pee Ceee's.....

There is no physical connection. It is purely psychological.
A friggin obsession, a weakness, a character flaw.
I would compare it to chronic masturbation.
Oh! Wait...
Nevermind.
If you don't scratch me here, I'm going to stab you there...
"Where's my tee shirt? Oh! There it is."
It says,
"US Patent Office, selling monopoly rights to common sense for over 25 years"
When are they going to figure it out?

Easy solution add a disk and complete install on new disk. Then transfer data or leave old disk in system....
