batteries? I have a pile of Dell Latitude batteries on my desk for laptops mostly between eighteen months and two years old that I need to distribute. We've recently been buying Dell Precision laptops since they have internal batteries that don't have the problems removable batteries have. Too many of our users have laptops shutoff when they're walking into conference rooms. It sucks having to wait on people running meetings that take 5+ minutes for Windows to reboot while you're waiting on them to screen share. I hate not having user replaceable batteries, but they do have fewer problems with unintentional disconnects. I'm just dreading our next round of Dell battery replacements since I'll have to open the case. We bought a batch of Precision 5520 laptops last July, and I've replaced batteries in almost half of them so far. They take me about twenty-five minutes to do. I know I'll get better with practice, but that's still a lot of work.

Why can't laptop batteries last as long as Tesla batteries?

  13. But how many jobs will this AI create? on AI Will Wipe Out Half the Banking Jobs In a Decade, Experts Say · · Score: 2

I've been a customer of NCNB which later became Bank of America for over forty-five years, and they just keep creating policies that require more employees. For example, I used their bill pay to transfer money to another BoA account for over a decade but since then they've discontinued that I have to go to a branch and get a teller every month to pay my rent. Also, I used to transfer money to several friends that have BoA accounts, but they since discontinued that feature since they require a credit card to sign-up for "SafePass" and they canceled my credit card due to the fact I didn't use it enough. So now rather than just being able to transfer the money online, I have to go to one of their branches and deal with a bank teller. I really miss being able to use my iPhone to transfer money, for example, to pay back a friend when they pay for a meal with their credit card. BoA just keeps creating more work for their tellers.

  14. It sounds like fake news to help Trump so I wouldn't hold my breath on this happening. The media just keeps helping Trump.

  15. It greatly depends on the company. Even CA allows for accrual limits. My employer limits accrued PTO time to 1.75 times the annual cap. From our handbook which was copied from Amazon, "Once this cap is reached no further paid time off will accrue until some paid time off is used." I think I've lost 27 weeks of vacation time here due to accrual limits. I make just under $200k per year so that means I've lost over $100,000 worth of time off. Yes, I'm bitter about that.

  18. Correct. Simple supply and demand. Plus since women are typically willing to work for less, many companies, like mine, prefer women candidates over males. The last eight developers I've interviewed were all women. None could do the job which isn't unexpected since you're picking from a much smaller pool of candidates. Add in the fact that the last three women we hired were either pregnant when we hired them or got pregnant shortly after, it screws over the rest of the team. I finally got enough people to where I could take some time off finally, but then two of the women scheduled months of maternity leave off so no one in the team can take any time off now.

  19. If you can actually take the ten days off per year, it is pretty generous. I've been a programmer for just over forty years(!), and everywhere I've worked we haven't been able to find enough people despite having the budget to hire them so everyone else has to make-up the slack. I think there was only one year I was able to take off more than five days, and that was twenty-five years ago.

  20. > Companies must legally pay you for any unused but accrued vacation/PTO,

Depends on the state. Here in Washington state, the law only requires less than 2/3 be paid out. In CA, we have to pay out 100%. That's why in CA we require employees to take PTO to get it off of the books, but in WA we basically don't allow vacation time. My entire adult life, I've only had one "real" vacation if you define it as a whole week off. Every company I've worked for, and that's since the mid-1970s, has had several problems with finding tech employees. My current employer, like several before, has more open tech positions than tech employees!

You're talking about Kshama Sawant. Her husband works for Microsoft so she is a strange cat. She hates us so much.

She also said all criminals should be executed in the streets while she is a criminal. I personally saw her spit in the face of a cop then try to kick another one in the balls. she was arrested for that. She argued that makes her an honest person while criticizing the other people arrested at the same minimum wage protest. She is a hypocrite of the greatest magnitude. Despite that she is an innocent child compared to the people that support Trump. She may want me to die, but Trump wants worse for my kind.
