  1. Unrealistic expectations on Network Intrusion Detection Systems Fail to Impress · · Score: 2, Informative
    From the article:

But Opus One's servers run OpenVMS, not Windows. Even though it is trivially easy to figure out what operating system a Web server uses, not one of the IDSs did so. Instead, they collectively generated literally millions of alarms about attacks that never happened.

That's an unrealistic expectation to place on an IDS, from the start. You get an IDS to log attack attempts first, not the attacks themselves - if the attacks are known (have signatures) your machines should be protected against them in the first place.

Light rail usually _averages_ 30-40 in cities, but the max speed is right up there with your car, 50-55. Trains would of course reach max speed on a bridge this long.

But anyway these will definitely not be light rail trains. These will be "low" weight intercity electric trains, something not seen in North America for about 50 years given the weight requirements for RR cars and dieselification of everything.

Sort of OT, but you're describing IP spoofing on one network. Generally that's referred to as 'arp poisoning'.
IP spoofing across networks is a different game entirely that involves literally sending 'spoofed packets' with a fake IP address in the header (also predicting sequence numbers used by the host you're connecting to to make a successful handshake). You retain the same IP address and MAC addr the entire time.

Have you ever downloaded, installed and run the bloody thing? real.com is a nightmare, the player changes filetype associations on the fly (especially the new RealOne) and takes about 15 seconds to load - less if you're willing to leave it loaded all day, consuming 5 MB and sitting in your tray.
Never mind the fact that the audio and video quality is terrible above 56 kbps - and the player can't deal with high network latency at low speeds anyway. Seriously, Winamp and an mp3 stream do a better job of audio at low bitrates.
And what is all that "take5" and "channels" bullshit in the player? Why do I have to restart the player when I download a new codec? Why is it so poorly integrated with my browser? Qt and WMP got that part right.
