Your assuming that the cable is rigid... most designs for this that I have seen are usually a ribbon/cable that can flex in either one or two dimensions. This would mean that you could not push it, only pull.
Also, we are having enough trouble creating a cable that can withstand the incredible force required for a simple tether... now they want to add vibration on purpose? This has disaster written all over it.
Yep, had the same issue with my mom. She likes those simple on-line games that have the tendency to load ones computer up with crap. I finally just wiped her hard drive and loaded Fedora 5 on it a few years ago. Since I did this, the only computer problem she has had was when the UPS gave up (it was 7 years old). Now when I go home for Christmas, I know it will only be one command to "fix" her computer... 'yum -y update'
Last year I gave my wive a Lexus for Christmas. This year, I don't have a job. My would be very upset with my for being fiscally irresponsible if I get her anything other than a fruit basket.
If you bought the slashdot subscription then you get to see articles before a non-subscriber. These articles are always with a red border. The only thing is you are not allowed to post responses until they turn green.
IMHO, we need a California-wide ballot measure to demand citizen oversight committees be in charge of all traffic light management. That's the only way the abuse will stop.
Unfortunately with the state of California being as broke as it is... I doubt anything like this will ever happen
While I agree that he talks about many issues that effected the computer industry as a whole, I believe that society has worked through many of these issues. As an example:
(4) The military, who are now totally absorbed in the business of using computers to mutate billion-dollar budgets into the illusion of automatic safey.
The military learned early on that computers are not the end-all-be-all to combat. It still take grunts on the ground to win the battle. Computers provide a means of sorting information. They are nothing more than a tool much like the riffle is to the infantry. (Sorry, I had to use one of those analogies that Dykstra is so fond of hating.)
Another thing Dykstra talks about, is that society changes at a slow pace. This too is a paradigm shift. While we were, at one time, accepting of change over generations. With the advent of the internet most of society now accepts change in the terms of just a few years. (ex: How long did it take Wikipedia to become accepted as a reference for college papers?) It is the ease of which we are able to pass on information that has allowed this to happen.
...that doesn't change the fact that nothing sold for the purposes of oral consumption should be hot enough to cause third degree burns on external tissue, even in one's sensitive nether regions, let alone in a 3 cent cup with a 1 cent lid.
You do know that it is impossible to get third degree burns from boiling coffee. Once the coffee leaves the dispenser it is now in a state of cooling off from ~212F. The worst you could burn yourself is second degree. A third degree burn tends to require an active flame or strong acid, neither of which are available in a cup of McDonalds coffee.
I personally think that the store doesn't need to posts a warning that the coffee is hot. Coffee is supposed to be hot (iced coffee not included). Its called personal responsibility.
I don't know about your system, but with mine all I have to do is mouse over the pic to see the pointer change into a little hand. Tells me there is a link.
Well, seeing as how most civilian GPS units are only accurate to about 100 feet. And most playground Merry-Go-Rounds are no more than 20 feet across... The system would just see you as stopped in one place.
I can't imagine how difficult it would be to talk any non-technical person - even if they *were* used to a GUI - through installing Windows.
Exactly. Linux is no worse off than Windows for the general public. If the person is non-technical they won't try an install of either. They will get somebody who is to do it for them. Linux has been ready for the general public for some time now. People just don't seem to get that.
Except that it would breed a socialistic system. It would cause those that just want to sit back and take to become educated on who is most likely to continue their existence. We need less welfare and more encouragement for small business.
A better solution is to say that People who vote are eligible for better small business loan rates than those who do not vote. Something like this would encourage the working class to be more active in who they choose to lead.
It is simple psychology. People are more inclined to become productive if there is a positive law instead of a negative one.
In the Military we are taught how to recognize various forms of addiction among the younger troops. It doesn't really matter what the addiction is, and we can't punish the addiction. What we can do is punish the behavior that stems from someone who is addicted. I have had to do administrative action on several individuals now who continually showed up late for work or fell asleep on duty. All because they stayed up late every night playing WoW. Couldn't state that in the report though. Whether you call it an obsession or an addiction, if it affects your daily routine, its a problem.

Its a bit different...
when physicians make a mistake you kill a few hundred people at the most.
Geoengineering has the potential to wipe out the entire life structure on the planet.
If you haven't yet water cooled your computer, then we must revoke your geek status.

If only more companies followed the Ferengi rules of acquisition.
Rule of acquisition #35. War is good for business.
We are currently at war. If more businesses catered to the war effort there would be more jobs... Doesn't matter if it is in Silicon Valley or not.
That should read "My wife would be very upset..."

A good story for a M.C. Shampoo comment.
Haven't had my first pot of coffee yet this morning... can't think of anything just yet.

albeit, maybe a bit dizzier.
Ah, found them...

Just had to look in the correct place.
Looking at there website:
Creeative Labs
I see no place to download the source.

Mostly we don't because of things like this:
Creative Goes After Driver Modder
The 1971 version was one of my favourites as a kid... haven't seen the remake yet.

I for one welcome our anonymous e-angry overlords...
The only problem with this is that back when you most saw this error, we were still using PS2 keyboards. PS2 keyboards were not hot swapable.
"Theres nothing like an odometer to measure you're overall useage of bandwidth."
Yet it is so incredibly easy to write something that will do this.
10 $Byte_Tx_From_Server = $Byte_Tx_From_Server + 1
20 Print $Byte_Tx_From_Server
30 Return to 10
