  1. I have actually looked throught this telescope... on Pluto's Discoverer's Backyard Telescope For Sale · · Score: 1

I grew up in Las Cruces, NM. Very close to Clyde W. Tombaugh's home. Back when I was in the Boy Scouts we got the chance to use this telescope. The workmanship is awesome. This thing was very mechanical, even the clockwork on the side that allowed it to track the sky seemed to be masterfully built and very effective. The mirror quality was something to envy. We could easily make out colors in some of the brighter nebula. That was also the first time I had seen the split in saturns rings. I hope whoever buys this, respects the work that Mr. Tombaugh put into it.

Transport aircraft are the most used of all aircraft in the Air Force inventory. If it isn't being worked on, you can be sure that it's flying daily. Just because there isn't an active war, doesn't mean they aren't being used.

I think your experience is not the typical. Most of the Sys Admin types work in Combat Comm. (aka NCCD) This is the type of job the guy is looking for. Lots of Commercial off the shelf equipment that needs to be set up and torn down every deployment.

eg. When we went into Kosovo, our unit had to set up a server farm with firewalls, proxies, etc... to support 800 users. Oh... and we had to set up the clients as well. We had to do it in three days. I don't know about you, but if that doesn't get your blood pumping I don't know what will.

  23. A third Choice... on System Administrators - College or Career? · · Score: 1

You can always be a Sys Admin in the military. Some people will tell you that the pay is better on the outside but speaking as a Sys Admin in the Air Force, I can tell you that I live comfortably and have a huge benifits package.

I think the job market right now is pretty competitive and if you don't have a degree you either won't get hired or you end up with a lower salary. In the military not only will they train you in all the latest technology, but they will also (starting 1 Oct 02) pay for 100% of your tuition.

This means that in 4 years with the military you can get lots of training/experience, get your degree, and have a very good resume when the job market opens back up.

I should mention that the military gets 30 days paid vacation per year? Try finding a job with that in the civilian sector.
