About the same, I got my masters in 1996 and it was Eiffel at the time for OOP, quite heavy language but true OOP.
Java was seen as a little guy bouncing left and right on a web page...
Do not forget to write a compiler, using lex/yacc or flex/bison too, using an LL1 grammar that you wrote. This was an assignement we had to do when I was in university learning CS. Do students still learn that?
I crossed the Canada-US border about 100 times in the last 10 years, by car/RV, never ever I had a question about electronic devices, cellphone, laptop, hard drive, etc. But always question on fruits, vegetables, meats, guns, $10'000 cash, firewood, etc.
20 years ago I used NortonCommander aka NC in MSDOS, in Windows 3 I started using WindowsCommander, a NC clone running in Windows. It has been renamed TotalCommander years ago because of TM.
It is still being developped, and is avalaible for free in Android. Best app ever.
If I go up the window on my house with my laptop running inSSIDer, I can see more than 30 networks on 2.4GHz, most of them on channel 1.
If I switch to 5GHZ, I see only one network, mine:). I bought a half-mini pci ABGN wireless card for less than $20 on eBay, and a used Cisco E3000 for $60 (then installed TomatoUSB). I know have a network without noise.
Where we have the highest price in the whole north america! The highest taxes too, and a crushed middle-class.
We pay more than $5/gallon for a long time. No matter why in Québec the majority of cars are sub-compact (yaris, rio, accent, fiesta, 2, etc) or compact (corolla, civic, 3, elantra, etc).
The privacy policy, the contact us page — it’s all a joke. We came up with the idea of building a crawler like this and keeping the maintenance price under $300 a month. There was only one way to prove our theory worked — to implement it in practice. So we did. Now, we find ourselves with a big crawler. We knew what it did but we didn’t know how to use it. So we decided to make a joke out of it. That’s the beauty of jokes — you can make them out of anything.
However, if you have a better idea — don’t hesitate to contact us.
you forgot GNAA and pouring hot grits down your pant :)
Out Run, Space Harrier, Arkanoid, Ghost'n'Goblins, Commando, Boulder Dash, Sokoban, Tetris, etc.

True, I still do x86 on a (emulated) VAX and also AVR8 assembly, when you have a few kB of flash, nothing better than assembly language!

We can do it the old way by mailing paper, yes. I filled my first one in 1997 via paper, and since 1998 I do it online :)
No don't worry, I have no clue what it is too, and paying 19B for something like this seems nonsense?!?

Eiffel maybe?
Why there is no more people talking about this data center is beyond me...
NSA will save all internet packets, phone calls, credit card transactions, etc, for years.

same for magnets, banned them because some people can eat them...
It was $150 in 2008...

Let's say...
Sell a CD copy of Michael Jackson : 15 years in jail
Kill Michael Jackson : 4 years in jail
makes sense...
No one understood the reference to the first iPod by Taco?!?

not bad I think, especially for my 7MPG vehicle!
I agree, I saw this story on reddit way before it was on /. ; it is special to see reddit story published here...
I posted the story in September 1999, here, on slashdot :)
The idea of capturing the intelligence of the readership — that's a joke
/. for 13 years, I agree :)
Being on
Heck, even with usenet early 90s it was flamewars and trolls

I agree, I am like the OP, hacker who got a master's in CS, and I code roughly the same, by intuition.
It's a nice read, but this could only happen in 1st world countries, not 2nd and 3rd.
never heard of it? http://www.corrosionx.com/corrosionx.html
It's used in RC world for years now. I also read that some guys sprayed a TV and put it in a water tank, it worked for 8 or 9hours!
