A lot of people only think of the capabilities of OS X Client when in the server role they should look at OS X Server. You can configure everything over SSH, and they are a bunch of GUI tools to make things even easier.

My tastes in music are pretty varied, going from classical to hip-hop, but I'm having a tough time finding music I want to get.

    Dish Network Total 120: $34.99 or $385 ($32.08/m) a year

Direct TV Total Choice (130 channels): $39.99 a month

Although Star Trek: Enterprise hasn't really rocked at all, it did take a few seasons for TNG to hit their stride. There is a definate problem with focus. Secretly I was hoping they could get Joss Whedon to come in and at least help them map out a story arc over this season and the remaining seasons. Unfortunately, they decided to totally change the premise of the show, make Archer to be some sort of maniac will to do anything to save Earth.

A review at the beginning of the season in USA Today brought up some very good points on the lack of focus in Enterprise. Although Paramount wants you to think they took the show for a dramatic twist this season, nothing really has changed. They are still exploring the unknown, which is what they have been doing the first two seasons. Nothing to see here, move along.

To fix Enterprise they need to:

Be a little more subtle with public commentary. Compare Similitude with TOS's Let That Be Your Last Battleground

    More friction among the crew.

    Lose the T'Pol-Tucker story line

Slow DOWN THE TRANSPORTER!!!! It's faster than The Original Series'!

    Shockwave

    Chosen Realm

It cuts down on browsing time by at least 50%, since my hands never have to keyboard, ever (I have memorized all of the useful keyboard shortcuts, and even added some of my own).
While this is a very useful feature, it is by no means unique to OW. Even IE has had this feature for several years. I believe that Firebird has a similar feature as an extension but I may be mistaken. My biggest problem with this feature is that when you come up with a lot of different search engines, I tend to forget what the shortcuts are. I prefer just setting them in Firebird's search bar. It requires you to take your hands off the keyboard but that method works better for me.

To use the search box in Safari without the mouse, you can hold down command option F to go to the Google search box. Under Firebird with Linux I use CONTROL-L and then TAB to get to the box. I'm sure there probably is a keyboard shortcut for this....

The professor should find a rock-n-roll anthology series of CDs with the music and have the campus book stores offer it for sale. It had real multitasking, for one thing, and virtual memory.
Win 3.1 had the exact same cooperative multitasking as Mac OS 7 at the time, meaning one application could still take over the whole computer. Windows didn't get cooperative multitasking until Win95, with NT allowing old 16 bit Win3.1 programs to preemptively multitask.

Back to the original question about an OS neutral solution, it will probably happen when people start clamoring for it. It wouldn't take much for companies to put a disk image up that has freedos and the new bios image on it so people can flash their bios just by booting the floppy. The problem will arise though when the machine you need to flash won't have a floppy drive, then I guess it's time for the motherboard companies to create ISOs of bootable CDs with the BIOS upgrades.
