No, we are not "behind" in technology, we are RESTRICTED...
FACT...anyone can go to Japan/Europe/etc. and purchase any of the equipment, but good luck getting the FCC permission to implement it, even for a local market.
The United States is not behind in technology, be 'merely'(I say tongue in cheek) restricted in the area of what technology they are ALLOWED to use.
Turned out to look like 2 pieces of white bread with Miracle Whip spread on them, along with 2 pink colored, slightly rectangular shapes about 1cm think...unfortunately there is no screenshot or url to link to because the mapping was consumed shortly after constructed.
You could always hire your own private Mariachi Band to play for you in the back of your SUV whilst you drive down the road at a leisurely pace...and you can model your driving after the music being played...
the article was very interesting, although I'm not so sure I would like to be scanning a focus'd light source into my eye directly to use my retina as the projector screen. Long term effects obviously haven't been tested on this one...wearing contacts/glasses is bad enough just to see over yonder, but who knows what these little gadgets would do to your eyes had to been using them a lifetime...
Looks like a pretty innovative technology from a purely technical point of view. But damn...$23 per disk?!?!(or below...yeah right) That's a LOT of meals at Taco Bell...
They are a teansie weansie little country in comparison to most in terms of oil consumption. Heck, I couldn't find any stats on it, but I am willing to bet that the city of Sao Paulo, Brasil consumes more oil(related products) than the entire country of Iceland on a daily basis.
Try this with a LARGE country(in terms of dependance on fossil fuels) and see how far it gets.
Timely or not, I appreciate most of the book reviews here because I don't have time to read each and every one of the books that come out, nor could I affoard all of them that I would like to read.
Being a teacher who is multi-tasked into system administration by the powers-that-be, I have enough on my plate already, and if a review is strikingly important to what I already do, and can shed some light on the topic, then I make an effort to get acquainted with that book and use it's insight.
p7 hit the nail on the head with his post. I just saw AotC yesterday for lack of an 'URGE' to: #1 battle idiot starwars fools dressed as jabba and the like on opening weekend. #2 (should be #1) wife doesn't enjoy Sci-Fi:0 #3 love stories suck in action movies #4 had seen spiderman since it came out first and scorpion king before that so my bloodlust had been sated =)
No one said a kid can't bill his relatives for 'on-site technical support'. I believe the going rate is somewhere in the neighborhood of $75/hr. Make out an invoice and date it a year or so ago and then it's all good.
I've been "promoted" to part-time all around computer/network problem solver/creator, for a small private high school. We are currently using Novell for fileserving, and win '98 for users, aside from a small 15 station MAC lab.
I've been deliberating how to change over to Linux and the respective applications that can be used to teach application use, such as MS's OFFICE suite. Abiword and gnumeric have been suggested, but what about powerpoint/publisher/access equivelants?
keeping in mind that the environment is being used to teach 13-17 year-olds, does anyone have any suggestions?
I couldn't agree more! If Lucas would have merely left the trilogy (for that is what it truly is) alone, and not "prequal'd" the masterpiece trilogy, it would have retained a much greater ambiance to the faithful followers.
I couldn't believe the weakness of the plot in Ep. 1. It seemed like he stole(yes from himself) parts of each of the plots of the prior 3 movies in order to piece together Ep. 1.
And I for one am proud to say that I LOVED Jar Jar Binks! The little dude had CHARACTER! Much more than Obi-wan's Master, or Obi-wan for that matter.
But the princess....*DROOL* yeah, she was sexy! Anyway...those bits aside...I think he failed miserably in plot and direction with Ep. 1, even if he made massive amounts of $$$$.
All I ask is that remote controls be standardized to have included a 'locator'. Kinda like my wireless phone has. So I can find the damn thing when the dog hides it under the bed or the wife takes it to the laundry room with her!
This I think says it all... it really has NOTHING to do with the worm. any other UNCLEANED system with some other worm would cause the same probes with a different name.
as an IT educator and manager at a private high school, I would have to agree with you. College allows one to hone their interpersonal skills and learn some general knowledge OUTSIDE of the 1's and 0's of computers.
It is much easier to go in and fix a technical problem, administer a network than it is to EXPLAIN what it is you must do/have done/are doing. Those interpersonal communicatin skills are not taught at the workplace, they are developed through high-school and college where you are talking with a variety of people from all different backgrounds and interests and trying to get along with the lot of them.
But for the record, do not waste the big bucks on the 4yr Universities unless you already have the money...going to Community College for the first 2 years is much better, get your general studies out of the way while working part time...then if you have a mind to, go to the bigger Uni's for the final 2 years, so your degree comes from somewhere respectable. On the side get some of those CERTS that ignorant upper management love to see, just to make your resume look meaty...
As for a major...CIS is the most likely but recomment a 2nd major in management if you want to make yourself REALLY marketable...because as a Sys Admin at a larger firm you will most likely be in charge of some other individuals and projects etc...
Lets see if they make some more 'realistic' robots instead of the trashcan's with dryer ventilation hoses for arms and lets.
Wonder if they'll modernize the intro music too.

easy little filter thingie too...
how the cost of making CD's goes down, but the cost to consumers does not.
Haven't you heard? It is all because of P2P services like Morpheous and Kazaa(*insert look of sincerity here*)

Hell no...
1 million vs. 2 million...
and that is with 1/2 of us buying
instead of all of us...
Hrm...1 Million in earnings..nah..
I don't think we're put'n them in a bind.
even if they require $750,000 in advertising
and expenses...
if they can't live with 250,000 for a single
album...they can move to africa or south america
and 'stretch' their dollars...
*grumbles at the whiney bitches*
Sounds to me like a great opportunity to pick up some neato hardware at a great price...
Bankruptcy auction anyone?

I suppose this is true, after all didn't that Gore fellow invent the internet?

Late for some is more than timely for others.

The last 3 cars I've bought were all filled with gas when I bought them...
:0
You must have haggled quite a bit to piss them off so much that they wouldn't even fill your gas tank
