You shouldn't worry about what you could have done differently in the past. If you could send yourself a message and actually change something, there would be a whole new branch of problem and mistakes that you would most likely want to change again, and again... and again.
If you don't like something about yourself, don't fret over it. Change it starting now.
It was the oddest thing, although no one replied to the mass mailing. I received about 200 - 250 bounce backs. I tried following up, but there isn't much I can do unless I devote a lot of time and money into it.
Its kind of ashame that something thats so easy to do, should be so hard to fix.
"If it takes three minutes for a response, it is not really HTTP any more,"
If it takes 3 minutes or as stated later 5 days, the problem is not in the protocol, but the architecture and performance of the application.
The beauty of HTTP is that it is generally stateless, that is, you can use it, come back 5 days later and pick up exactly where you left off without consuming any resources. A lot of programmers have done things to get around this, but really as a matter of convenience, rarely for architectural reasons.
I'll believe this when I see it, P2P is a great technology, but the web is just inherently different. I don't see where this guy is coming from... comments?
Google is great search engine for the Intenet, because it ranks pages according to how many other pages link to it. Its very democratic.
I don't see how Google behind the firewall would be a viable product, what will it rate document on how many other company documents link to it?
There a number of other existing indexing engines that are signigiantly cheaper and more mature. Google should stick to what it does best. I guess this shows they aren't very profitable and are looking for other sources of revenue.
I don't know who they are marketing this product towards but at a 128 kbps data rate, its kind of pointless. 128kbps is fine for MP3s, but if you want to get a good master copy of any music you need a much higher bit rate. Remember 128 kbps isn't as good as an audio CD, still better then tape mind you.
Maybe good for those live dead shows, but probably not, there is no RCA or Mic line in.
One thing to note is that when I purchased Episode One I was all excitied to see the deleted Scenes. But after seeing them, it still left something to be deserved.
For LOTR If the scenes were deleted in post production, I dought they will have a major affect on the movie. I have a lot of respect for Jackson, and maybe he was thinking of these scenes all along. I bet more then likely though, those 30 to 40 minutes are silly, not-needed, deserved to be removed scenes, just like Lucas has done.
There is one positive side to this. Those same girls that pay to see glimpes of their heart throbs may actually take an interest in the Star Wars saga and Sci Fi.
"``It's wicked Joss-like,'' Fox Entertainment president Gail Berman said of Whedon's latest concept. ``It's not like any show set in space that I've ever seen.''"
Ok, so either
A: This guy hasn't seen much
B: The series is going to suck
There are only so many movies you can create about space and still say it is doing something new, I seriously dought this will be any good, regardless, this guy's resume speaks for itself.
Or maybe I'm getting old, I grew up with Buck Rogers, Battle Star Galactica, Star Blazers and Robotech. Everything today seems a bit silly by comparison. Except Babylon 5 that is:-)
What usually happens is I ask for so many little changes that eventually the IT person in question will 'conveniently' leave my machine logged in as local admin.
Add my my account to the local admin group and eom.
Why not put a timed delay on all posting to stop the silly first post syndrome.

Have you tried turning off your cell phone?

"bring together children ages 10 to 15 years old from around the world" Sounds like Slashdot to me.

Wouldn't it be a smart idea to start thinking about IM clients?
Sooner then later spammers will figure out that IMs get A LOT more attention then email.

Just my 3 cents...
I rather thought he has done an excellent job so far.
:-)
Have you ever tried to take a book that takes 40 hours to read aloud, and reduce it to 3 hours.

I hope Jackson proves me wrong.

No I haven't so I can't argue my point very well. But I will ask by what means you mean silly? Special affects or plot?

Sorry, just couldn't resist.
"Under some circumstances water might even be found inside Uranus..."
no shit
Why wasn't the original message text printed? Or at least linked to?
Is it out there somewhere?
I've worked in this environment more then once.

But in these times, we all sooner or later need to make a few sacrificies. Wether it be the economy or acts of terror.
I have every belief that things WILL eventually get back to normal.
Just be thankfull you don't work in a post office or a high rise in a major city.
If microsoft has their way with WindowsXP and Passport, it won't be very difficult.
This way 10,000 years into the future, the viruses will be magically rediscovered in prestine condition.
How can anyone be remotely interested in anything else right now?
Let Microsoft spend all that cash on their uber-marketing campain. Then pass the injuction. :-)
